New platform launches to bring TV ads to console games

A first-of-its-kind in-game advertising platform called playerWON launches this week, allowing big-name marketers that are used to running splashy TV ads the ability to target younger demographics with similar types of spots that will run in video games.

yep, F that. I don't need nor do I want ads. we get enough rubbish shoved in our face throughout our daily lives. A major reason I don't watch tv is because I don't want to spend 60 minutes watching a 40 min show. About the only I watch TV is when I shut down a game and jump to Funimation, Netflix, HBO Go or other paid services that are ad free. oh but they'll target stuff you like like how websites use cookies. F that, it's a bit creepy as is. I don't need to be advertised to. I don't go to McDonalds because I saw an ad. I don't buy a new car because I saw a ad. So on and so forth.

It's these little stupid things, if implemented, that will deter me from future generations and games. I have a large enough collection to keep my busy for quite some time not to mention all the games I could buy to play from PS3 to present. Or even NES, Gamecube, PS1 and 2. Though I think most major publishers would shy away it after the backlash in game ads received a couple generations ago before falling to the roadside.

You won't need to. No one on here wanted to support DLC when it was starting in the mid 2000's, yet it caught on. No one was supporting paid content behind paywalls, but then it caught on. No one was supporting battlepasses, until they became the norm. No one wanted something like Gamepass, Xcloud, or PSNow to become the norm, but slowly and surely they are. No one will support ads until someone makes a great game and you cannot get past them.

Can't wait for when AdBlock mods are made for video games. Years back SKATE 2 had real advertising on in-game ad boards and I didn't mind it, but I do now. Between triple A being as stale as it is and all the shady monetization publishers keep pushing down our throats I find myself being less interested in this hobby of mine. It depends. If you buy digital billboard space then I don’t care. It’s on the developers to not make it look stupid. If you are playing forza and you just see Pepsi and Doritos every 5 seconds then it becomes obnoxious. Have a good selection of sponsors, get paid and we won’t know the difference.
