COG: Gamers around the world have been waiting to see the power of the PS5. Yes, titles like Demon's Souls and Returnal gave us a taste but Ratchet and Clank's dimension-shifting masterpiece is a glowing example of the possibilities of the PS5.
Demons Souls, Returnal, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart are all great games and are visually stunning. Then we have Horizon: Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok which are likely to set new graphical benchmarks. On top of that Deviation Games and Jade Raymond’s Studio Haven are making PS5 games.
Just to add to your list, ff7r feels oddly next gen!! Feels like a complete new game
The fur!!!! Crazy graphics from Insmoniac. To Think they achieve this in the first year of the PS5.
The fur is beautiful, but I was even more impressed to see the real time reflections in the eyes of NPCs. For a game with SO MUCH going on at any given moment, they sure didn't scrimp on detail!
It's in every bolt and smashed bit of glass too!
lol I haven't finish up the main story and already want a sequel!!!, yes Rift Apart is that effing AMAZING!!! Playing at Performance RT and in several points in the game tried to cause as much havok or create as much debris, particle, destruction, etc I can, so I can see if some frame drops, but not a single drop of slowdown saw in these moments, and holy hell more impressive off all that is that all that destruction is physically based, very similar to Returnal or even better, for years and years wanted that physics effects alongside stunning visuals were a default thing in videogames cause they add so much greatness to a game, but only just a few games had some of these effects in the past (mostly PS exclusives Uncharted 4 example), but now with the PS5 it seems this will come true, not only that, that performance hungry eating FX RT is also included, even today with the most expensive PCs out there can struggle to have all these four effects happening at the same time, seriously the PS5 is damn impressive and this just began!
@masterfox no game on pc looks as good as this and we have only just begun
Lol ok kid, I'm mostly a PC gamer and we have games that look like this, like
I game on PC, switch and ps. While I wouldn't be necessarily surprised by something looking as good. I haven't ran into a single game as beautiful and Ratchet tbh. So I'm just curious to what games those are. I'd legit check them out
@Teflon02 FlameBaitGod doesn’t know what he's talking about. I too also play on PC and right now my Laptop is more powerful than Xbox One X and has better rasterization performance than Xbox Series S only falling far short when pushing RT (because my laptop GPU is still Pascal generation GTX 1070). Regardless games like Gears 5 and FH4 run at 1080p60 and 1440p60 without issue MAXED out. Those games don't look better than R&C:RA. I can't think of any titles on PC which have better fur rendering not even FFXV with Nvidia GameWorks features enabled. PC is more capable but that ultra powerful rendering ability goes underutilized. Meanwhile PS5 isn't even the most powerful console on paper looking some topical specs but it already has the world's best looking game.
@variant Yeah that's exactly it. I've played quite a bit on PC for the last 2 years of last gen. Now I play my ps5 a bit more outside stuff like phantasy star and Genshin which I still play on PC. But I definitely know the best games I've played a bit of on PC were pretty much what you named and a few others that look good but I've legit never seen a single PC game look as good as Ratchet at all. Not that it's not possible, just that it's currently not done. I'm using an even more powerful PC while I can't push FFXV at max on 4k at 60 because weird optimization. Alot of games I generally can max at atleast 1440p and sometimes 4k so I don't know. I definitely think you're 100% right
No ps5 for me but I'd love to play this game. I think once naughty dogs new ip comes along that's going to be best graphics this gen
What are you waiting for, try to get one asap. You're missing out. Good luck!
Probably like me, waiting for the scalpers to go away...
Well there was no chance at launch in UK and after that the scalping price was ridiculous. So basically I bought a series X together with my PC it does just fine. Il look into grabbing one this xmas
If you try and explore too far you'll fall through the scenery and when that happens it breaks this amazing technical masterpiece illusion to bits.
Is that a bug you saw on youtube or read online somewhere?
Something that happened to me several times.
Find anything....what game DOESN'T have flaws? Just goofy.
Think you're looking for early Cyberpunk 2077 articles there mate.
Trying a bit hard there me thinks. Even open world games eventually have borders. What's your point?
I agree, the developer should spend 10000% more development time to render every planet to full size, so when you get too far in one direction, you just come back from the other side of the map. /s
So like any other game. Gotcha.
I'm curious about where. I did find one specific spot where you can legit walk through the wall. But it was a small specific spot I can't even remember where to find. But outside that I've never "walked to far anywhere and I'm the type that runs outside the map for Horizon Zero Dawn 5, times an hour getting sidetracked lmao. Every time I've tried get too far out I hit a invisible wall lol. So you have to be trying real hard to "break immersion" lmao
We get spoiled honestly. This looks gorgeous. And its only the beginning. Props to these devs. God I hope Sony’s gaming strategy wins over MS’s because I have a bad feeling where the industry will go if MS strategy proves to be more successful.
No kidding. I want no part in their future of gaming.
Same. All they have to offer are free games right now, but if they were to beat Sony into submission, I bet there would be no more super push in gamepass. Microsoft is spending heaps of money and getting none of it back. As soon as their vision is seen, they'd pull the rug out and overcharge like their double priced sub fiasco a few months ago. They cleary want as many subs as possible.
It will become like cable television. Packages and tiers and what not. No more waiting for the games you want or getting used games you didnt get to play at a bargain. We already saw that they tried to pull it in that direction with the used games fiasco, but it was premature and backfired. They waited and bid their time. Soon gamers wont know what hit them. Like a frog in a pan. They will cook us slowly. Lol Whats worst is that it will effect the quality and type of games.
I don't know why the people that support MS's vision don't see that. I've come to the conclusion that 1. It's people that want great games, but only want to pay pennies for them, which is understandable, but what industry has survived like that? And, 2. The people that just want to see MS win, even if it's a detriment to the hobby they love.
You're acting like a jock thats trying to cancel a virgin just because he's getting in your way. Or is only happy if they win a state championship every year or else they're considered a major disappointment. #GinaCaranoisinnocent
Wth are you talking about? Lol You're talking about how some lunatic got fired for saying stupid things in a thread about Ratchet and Clank. You okay bro?
So far the PS5 exclusives released are a treat visually though Returnal is an addicting fun game but imo its visuals are not on par like R&C or Demon Souls & I believe it's that way because it's basically 1080p upscaled. It would be nice if Housemarque can up the resolution in Returnal in a future update.
The RT Performance mode is insane. I definitely notice the temporal injection on their fur (mainly Ratchet's), but it's not a game-breaker. I can't wait till devs are fully taking advantage of the SSD-RAM-GPU loading. It's going to be a game-changer as far as how much stuff they're loading on screen! This game already almost has too much going on already, but it's awesome because it makes the world more alive.
They have achieved this less than a year from the launch of the PS5. Can't wait to see what the other legendary Sony first party studios are cooking.
It's very pretty. Otherwise insanely mediocre in every aspect. Story, weapons, gadgets, content, exploration, puzzles, replay value... letdown in every category. Still recommend a PS5, but this game is a rental, not a buy.
Uhhh okay. 🙄
You're welcome to point out anything it does better than any other Ratchet game. I'll wait.
Your unpopular opinion.
Your comment is a letdown in every aspect, try again
o_O pls say sike
Considering how this is one the highest rated Ratchet and Clank games of all time, I'd call your opinion bullshit.
Apparently nobody that rated it played any other RaC game. They're all better than Rift Apart.
Enjoy your extremely unpopular opinion, dude. All the critics and gamers that love the game must be conspiring together and just pretending. Don't worry guys, this one random guy on the internet named fitofficial knows the real truth about R&C: Rift Apart. We're so lucky to have you here man. Thank you!
I've outlined everything mediocre about the game and all I'm getting is butthurt fanboy insults in return. If you're happy with sub-par this is definitely the RaC experience for you. Enjoy, and expect more of the same since no criticism is allowed!
Seems like you're having trouble deciphering the difference between fact and opinion. That's just what your rambling is; opinion. An extremely unpopular opinion, I might add. Please, for the love of all that is holy, learn the definition of opinion before commenting further.
How is my opinion somehow less than yours when I'm pointing out specifics?
Funny how it's a letdown yet it's the best Ratchet game since Tools of Destruction but you keep thinking that.
CIT was better than Tools, but that's still a pretty low bar.
Crack in Time not better than Tools imo but I'll take Rift Apart over most PS3 Ratchets and the PS4 one.
Fine. The originals made for the PS2 almost 20 years ago are superior to Rift Apart in every way sans hardware improvements. Most places gave them between 8-9, UYA getting deservedly the highest ratings. Rift Apart is not a 9-10 game by any measurable metric. Most of it has been done better before, and the graphics are by far the best part which is apparently enough for fanboys to cream themselves and declare it the best game ever despite having painfully minimal, repetitive content.
It does look great, and we’re still in the very early days of the generation. Imagine how ‘next/current’ gen games will look in 5 years.
Indeed, Sony's first party studios continue to set the bar.
Amazing looking game and the different worlds really come out beautiful with the rtx and hdr.
Playing Ratchet & Clank makes me glad I got an OLED TV with my PS5. The game is truly stunning and the level of detail is insane. I am often shocked that the frame is rock steady with insane amounts of action on screen (playing the 60 frames RT mode)
This is the main reason I wanted a PS5 the moment I heard it was coming out. And the ONE game I was waiting for. And I have been thoroughly impressed. This feels, at moments as visually striking as a pixar movie does... but with creaturebox designs, which, I like quite a lot more. This game makes me feel like a kid, in the early 90s again. The same excitement, the same sense of wonder at how awesome things look and how smooth gameplay feels (back when I first saw Sonic, or Gunstar Heroes, or Flashback). So far, the best I have seen. Some other games may bring more "realism" to the table... sure, that doesn't impress me anymore. I respect the artistry and effort put into it, and for sure find it striking, but as an artist or as a gamer, this does it for me: technology and art pushing the boundaries towards interesting visual stylisation, the way this game did and Kena seems to be setting up to do. Not that I wont enjoy (visually or gameplay wise) the next God of War, or GTA, or Horizon... it just isn't as impressive, exciting or awe inspiring as these other games are in my opinion (at least form a purely visual standpoint) Insomniac and creaturebox knocked it out of the park with this one!
It absolutely is. Anyone thinking otherwise is lying to themselves.
