As time moves forward i'm always reminded by what a disaster the xbox one reveal was. If anyone has time, do watch "the dark age of kinect" video on youtube from crowbat. Remind yourself how weird it is that MS has somehow survived all that.

Kinect was a neat idea. The non gaming uses are kind of impressive. The gaming ones...😕

Im glad MS made it through.

Microsoft is one of the richest companies with billions in the bank, they can survive in the industry for many years if they want to.

“Remind yourself how weird it is that MS has somehow survived all that.”

XB1 was a mess, but the above makes MS sound like a startup rather than one of the biggest companies in the world, and one that is worth multiples of their competitors combined…

The only way they wouldn’t have “survived” would’ve been if they gave up and left the industry.

Definitely didn’t mean to come off as them being a garage start up, I’m surprised ms didn’t kill off the Xbox division, we see companies of that size like google divest from their studios in stadia so it’s surprising to me to still see Xbox not just being killed but in actuality growing as a brand after the xbone fiasco.

Every time I see one of these articles I'm reminded that Microsoft doesn't release hardware sales numbers for any products, Including Xbox. I guess it's fun to compare made-up numbers though?

They are comparing 2 consoles to one.

Orchard41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

So everyone who buys an Xbox buys two? A Series S and X? Makes perfect sense /s

I’m sure Microsoft would love if that were true lol.

That logic also means all the PS5 comparisons are invalidated since there are two consoles.

anast40d ago

PS5 digital runs the games the same as PS5 disk. The only difference in than one does not have a disk function, but the games run the same. The S and X are two different consoles.

Orchard40d ago

And how does that invalidate sales comparisons? Are you saying people are buying two Xbox’s at a time? That seems extremely unlikely.

One console SKU or ten - makes no difference.

DJStotty41d ago

"They are comparing 2 consoles to one."

That excuse is old, 2 consoles or not, even if all sales are Series S, it is still outselling xbox one.

anast40d ago

The S is a different console than the X. They cannot run the games in the same way.

DJStotty40d ago

@anast

They can run the games in the same way, as well as the same games.

The only difference is resolution and framerate.

Shall we split the PS4 Pro and the PS4 sales going off that analogy then? They are different consoles that "can't run the games in the same way".

Just admit it is a null and void argument and then move on.

Kinect was ahead of its time. Horrible that the forced it but would be something the can bring back with VR

Good figures, still selling better than the xbox one by nearly 1 million units total, and that is with a console shortage and a pandemic, imagine the sales if stock was readily available?
