Wccftech : Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition launched today on next-generation consoles, and we've got a huge tech Q&A with 4A Games about it.
Finally today is the day...almost downloaded..I was saving it for nexr gen..because on last gen it was very jerky in motion...plus graph and resolution is boosted in a point as it is in a high end pc...I think this gen of consoles is like a very high end pcs in terms of power right now...
Very high end? Midrange PC is more accurate. Digital Foundry's analysis shows Series X has the highest resolution on this title on console, with a mix of medium and high settings and image quality hovering around 1440p with some drops from 60FPS. Any Nvidia RTX card matches or exceed this level on this game. 1440p, DLSS with better than native image quality and equivalent or better settings an RTX2060 will do the target 60FPS. RTX2060 is the slowest RTX card available and decidedly mid range at best.
From a DF comparison Article: "In terms of typical resolutions in the open world, the Sony machine operates between 1296p and 1512p, while Series X runs in similar scenarios at 1512p to 1728p. I generally found PlayStation 5 to have a significant advantage in locking to 60 frames per second. Sony's new console delivers a Metro Exodus experience that's super-smooth in combat, and equally robust in traversing the open world. Similar to Xbox Series X, there can be the odd one-frame drop, but where I found PS5 smoother is in areas where I saw some significant stutter on the Microsoft machine." Basically, one has higher stable frame rate, the other has higher resolution. Take your pick.
https://youtu.be/HUmXxHlosx... Presumably most people recognise RTX2060 launched as the mid range card of the previous RTX generation models in January 2019 is not classed as very high end today. There is about a dozen Nvidia desktop models above it on the GPU hierarchy as of now. Here is some gameplay footage in a very heavy area of the game that backs up the assertion of RTX2060 performance on this specific title. It's exceeding 60FPS with rare and minor dips. Series X of course also having a few dips below 60FPS. According to Digital Foundry consoles use medium-high mixed settings with VRS enabled. Averaging around 1440p in dynamic resolution depending on scenario. Series X might be slightly higher, PS5 slightly lower. 'Normal' setting on ray racing global illumination is utilised on console without ray traced reflections, all as per the video.
Most powerful console to ever exist, can probably power the simulation we all live in
In 30 fps? No thanks
Reading comprehension 101: “Consoles” is plural.
Game is gorgeous
I've been playing it for 2 days and have to admit this is the best $15 game I have ever played
Just ordered it for Ps5, now it’s 60fps.. didn’t bother getting on last gen consoles.
I didn't know this dropped already. I see it on the store (PS4 edition) for €20. Is the enhanced edition a free upgrade from current gen or is it solely a next gen version that I'll have to find on the store??
Already finished the game last year on the Ps4, but held off on playing the two DLCs until the upgrade dropped. Looking forward to diving back into the Metro world.
Did you like the first one? It was a 7 at best for me so I passed on this one. But if I hear this one is better then I might give it a shot.
@bloop It's a free upgrade. If you own the game on PS4 and own a PS5, you can upgrade to the PS5 version at no cost. Also, I've been playing it and it's great. Looks great and runs great.
It looks and plays great on the Series X. It's so much smoother but the aiming is still a bit janky.
Can't find the enhanced edition, I see the ''Gold Edition'' which is currently $19.49 for PS + members. Is it out already??
If you buy that you can then upgrade to the PS5 version.
Oh ok, thanks for the info.
Thanks for the heads up sale ends soon, gonna get this game, it looks like the gold edition has a ton of content for $20
I Brought the Xbox one physical edition two weeks ago that has 2033 free with it for £10 new off Amazon. Just downloading the series X enhancement patch. I’ll give it a go this weekend.
Flat lei, they reduced the Res a lot to make use of raytracing.
A PS5 exclusive FPS would it be the best looking visually striking game to date of the FPS genre in all the gaming industry, heck even Killzone Shadowfall at this very moment with 60 fps on the PS5 is something to behold.
After the PC, you mean..
no there are legit PlayStation exclusives that can rival pc games and same goes for xbox series x exclusives or enhanced games. PC gamers act like they built their pc's on $599 budget when a good graphics card could cost half that to start. build a $600 pc that can rival XSX or ps5 and than come back and talk. Ratchet and clank can rival a pixar movie and that's running on a $399-$499 ps5. Gears 5 on XSX looks stunning
@neutralgamer any game, on any console, will run best on PC, period. either is available or not is another topic. Yes, PC is more expensive, also are Rolex and Ferrari. You can claim they are all watches, or cars, why to pay more for one vs. the other? You pay premium price for the most useful, most versatile, most powerful and future proof device. Nobody acts like we don't pay a lot for our PCs. Yes, it's a big investment. It's also the best by far, period.
It’s beautiful. I just wish max sensitivity was a little bit faster.
Me too but I think they intentionally have the input lag, deadzone setting to add heavybess/realism to the game.
Man I’m torn! I already played and throughly enjoyed this game on Xbox One X but I want to replay it on my PS5! That means rebuying the game and starting from scratch, but damn these enhancements and the Dualsense functions looks fantastic. Hmm.
Same exact scenario here. I played it on Xbox One X and loved it, but those load times were the worst I've ever experienced. Right now you can buy the Gold Edition for 20 bucks on PSN, then get the upgrade. I've been playing for a few hours now and it's very much worth it.
For sure! I caved and did the same thing. The improvements are incredible. Wish I had waited to experience this way! Happy trails on your play through!
Have had this game in my backlog for such a long time now. Looks like it will be worth a playthrough after all the STALKER 2 hype.
Underestimated the power of next gen consoles? I guess that explains why it drops as low as 1080p on Series X according to DF and possibly even lower on PS5….. More like overestimated
Obviously the Series S is a difference beast but the fact that it drops as low as 512p is pretty sad... I feel bad for anyone who thought that the Series S would just be a discless series X that targets 1440p instead of 4K. Most games end up quarter res compared to the Series X, nowhere near half.
Arent both the PS5 and Series X using AMD chips? Doesnt that mean that the RTX capabilities on them are limited?
Still the PC is where the game will see it's full potential. If only devs targeted a high end PC's GPU first then scale it down I can only imagine how it will look, whether it be this game or future games. They can also take advantage of sound cards yes those things in PC's that were all the rage 🤣😁, EAX back then was amazing. The Sound Blaster AE series comes to mind as the best out there. Or even better, use 16 core CPUs, 12, 8, etc but first target the high end, all this power yet, they barely even use it on PC.
Bought a DualSense on the basis of this game being given “native DuelSense Support” on PC. It hasn’t. It works including haptics etc. However when you open your map the trigger doesn’t work anymore so you can’t turn it over to see your objectives. Also if you’re at a workbench/shop the L1/R1 stop working so you can’t switch between weapons. Aiming is dreadful too but that’s the game engine not the controller.
The odd gamma differences in hdr is really disappointing. Idk why its so hard for devs to get that right. Its just like assassin's creed valhalla, the hdr in that game is completely broken and still no patch to fix it.
Could have used some of that power to improve AI but they did not bother to look at it.
@ProjectVulcan Yes A PC can be more powerful. But the Consoles are a combination of power vs cost. It's not spend as much money as you want etc. This game isn't built for PS5 OR SeriesX. They've just added more effects and higher rez etc. PS5 would load this game built for it in under 10secs. It would use the newer features of the PS5/SX, It dosen't use the newer i/o systems, especially in the PS5, it does not use superfidelityfx, it does not use the culling features of either console. Lastly, this engine is decent, but not mainstream. Early days until Engines catch up to watch these newer consoles can do. Most games are crossgen. This is such.
