To close out E3 2021, a brief awards ceremony was held. Most categories were limited to anticipated titles based on games shown in the various presentations over the past few days.
Uh... what? The most anticipated Xbox/Bethesda game is different than the most anticipated game even though the games are from the same studios? I never understand how they decide this stuff. Also, otherwise, pretty much safe categories where they just choose one based on the showcases and nothing else. No best RPG, best shooter, etc.
I was confused by that as well. How can one Xbox game be the most anticipated game overall, but *not* be the most anticipated Xbox game. Where is the logic?
Basically comes down to voters when voting on Xbox game those not having a preference for Xbox voted for a game that might possibly fit their taste more. While when voting for over-all they make a different choice that wasn't split votes to other consoles. Boils down to choice of voting pool being different.
LOLOLOL Award logic fail It's like when you see an exclusive game nominated in the overall best game of the year award category but the same game fails to win the game of the year award for the system it was made for in favor of a game not nominated in the overall game of the year.
I think the idea is that the most overall anticipated would obviously be the winner of its sub-category, so they give that award to the second-most voted in that category. Or that at the least could be the thinking behind how some people voted and enough people did so to also make that the result.
@Chrisopher "Uh... what? The most anticipated Xbox/Bethesda game is different than the most anticipated game" Yeah, xbox is the console, higher userbase across xbox and pc, than there is across just xbox lol.
Congratulations Phil and the Xbox Team! :)
Microsoft had a bigger checkbook than EA this time. Stalker should have taken the awards for innovation.
Stalker is also exclusive to Xbox platform. Had the game taken that award, you would still say MS paid for the award anyway (for whatever reason).
@King tradeshow awards are paid for (sponsored) marketing ops. It happens in every industry. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the exclusivity window for Stalker on Xbox is merely 3 months...
@king_noctis Here you go again struggling with the term exclusive lol Stalker has timed exclusivity and will be on PS5 shortly after its initial release.
Foxhound and Crayon I believe the difference between the Stalker 2 release on Xbox and Playstation might be 3 months but it's also $70. Instead of free.
@dcbronco Is gamepass free now? I know Microsoft beg for subs with their £1 for 3 months offers but now it's free this is amazing.
“ tradeshow awards are paid for (sponsored) marketing ops. It happens in every industry. ” Is there any truth or evidence to this, especially in the gaming world? I would really love to know if whether or not Sony paid VGA for the Last of Us Part 2 GOTY award if that’s the case.
Ocelot considering most games don't sell a million copies and GP has probably 20 million subscribers probably everyone on Xbox who will buy the game already has GP. So the minuscule number who will buy it doesn't really require counting. Unless you're talking about Playstation where everyone will be shelling out $70. So essentially it's free on Xbox. $70 on Playstation. Sorry if that truth hurts.
Xbox did a great job this year. I'm most excited to play MS Flight Sim next month. Relaxing game to play in the living room with my girlfriend.
Yeah, I'm really looking forward to giving this a go. Have you seen the new xbox controller for it?
I am going to invest in a flight stick for slight sim, would be rude not too lol
40 idiots disagreed with a simple Congratulations? Petty bitch babies. ALL of you.
It’s the Sony cult babies, if you piss em off you’re doing something right so consider it a W.
Lol Forza 5 over Eldenring
I think Eldern Ring was in Geoff show "Summer snooze fist" not part of E3 officially. The awards are for games shown in E3 conferences.
People are being too harsh on Geoff. Do you know what it takes to build a gaming show from scratch (finding sponsors, scheduling interviews, filling in spots for publishers that drop out at the last minute etc.)? Summer Games Fest 2021 was MUCH improved over last year. It was a better Namco Bandai show than Namco's ACTUAL E3 show lol.
That’s kind of shitty when it was basically a E3 prologue Plus Eldenring was shown off a again and had more details released during E3
I'd have given it to Elden Ring too, but like shook said, I don't think it was actually part of E3.
I agree with you.
Elden Ring is a core gamer's game for sure and probably the most anticipated for core gamers. But, Forza Horizon 5 is probably the most anticipated from a broad set of gamers. It is the first first party racing game to appear this generation, and it is also the highest rating racing franchise over the past decade. I wish most anticipated game had two categories. Core Gamer's and General Gamers.
As far as I'm concerned, Forza is a core gaming experience. Just because it has wide appeal, that doesn't mean that it doesn't appeal to hardcore players. The Souls-like genre isn't exactly niche anymore.
You think Elden Ring looks better than Forza?
"Lol Forza 5 over Eldenring" You don´t even know what you´re talking about. XD
That was geoff's show. I personally would play FH5 over Elden Ring, but that's me
"Most Anticipated Square Enix Game: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy" This is the time when Square-Enix looks itself in the mirror and realizes the company is becoming an embarrassment.
Disagree. IMHO, they need to diversify because their portfolio has become rather stagnant. And the SP game looks like what people have wanted to start to see out of Marvel, not the Avengers game.
They don't have to diversify. If they want to grow substantially they need to appeal to more gamers. Bt, you don't have to diversify the type of games you make to do that.
@Neogamer How do you appeal to more gamers than you already had without diversifying your catalog?..
Disagree again. If you want to appeal to more gamers, you need to present new ideas, fresh stories, and characters. One of the best ways to do this is with new IPs that are of great interest to other people. Marvel is just that. It is the strongest IP in the world right now. And it allows them to explore ideas and concepts that might be written out or not possible in their other IPs.
@--Onilink-- You can change story, mechanics, and gameplay in the games you make to make them appeal more broadly. Final Fantasy, Dragon's Quest, Kingdom Hearts, etc. are all great games, but, they also could have a lot of things changed to improve their appeal to a broader audience.
Beside the fact that the most anticipated game is not the most anticipated in it's own show? It is surprising Forza Horizon 5 even won because I know that it looked fantastic visually, yet beside that was it really that good, in comparison to other games that everyone are dying to play including the journalists who voted, maybe I live under a rock and didn't realize those journalists are huge racing fans, but I think in the first year of every new console generation, graphical achievements become more important than anything else!
I'm an Xbox guy and I don't care about Forza personally. I would have given my most anticipated game to either Starfield, SMTV, or Tales of Arise. Tbh, even that Danganronpa Collection for Switch got more excited than Forza. Graphically fidelity means absolutely nothing if the gameplay itself doesn't interest me.
Just say you don't like racers. I played so many racers and Forza horizon is the best open world racer out with force horizon 4 and horizon 5 looks to be too it. It really is a 9+/10 game.
ahhh yes, logic. haha
For me Square-Enix & MS/XB conferences was ok/safe. I didn't see any mind-blowing/wow factor titles but some interesting titles I would play. At MS/XB show I saw 5 multi-plats that I would be interested in playing. At S-E show I'm interested in the PS console platform exclusive Babylon Fall & the multi-plats FF:Origins & Guardians of the Galaxy looks decent. Summer Game Fest show was ok as well. To me there were no winners.
Being that both series are similar in a lot of ways, but little has been seen by either, I'm interested in seeing if Starfield, or Outer Worlds 2, ends up being the fan favorite.
I'll give this year to MS, simply because their message was clear. You could easily understand each topic that MS wanted to address and where they are going And Phil Spencer made sure to address them again at the end of the presentation. 1) Bethesda's upcoming games are gonna be exclusives to Xbox (it sucks but it's now clear). 2) Yes we know, Xbox is lacking exclusives games and we're gonna release 6 games in the next 6 months and you will see a steady output of games... Today we have shown you 30 games. 3) Halo will release with multiplayer. 4) GAMEPASS, Gamepass, GAMEPASS did we mention that the majority of the games show are gonna be released on day 1 on Gamepass. Like or hate MS there's no denying that the presentation was quite methodical in the delivery. (i have linked Phil Spencer's closing statement just rewatch its superb PR 101) https://youtu.be/1YnVzOA2wN...
No Elden Ring? What a joke
Different show Einstein
I mean it's more e3 than not. Not including SGF is the joke then.
They had to try and make a case for a Playstation game somehow lol
Seriously why leave Elden Ring out? It would have been at the Namco show if not for Keighley. Do downvoters have brains?
I really don't see how it could be anything but Starfield. Maybe it is just on this board, but there has been non-stop talk about this game for years, and it really heated up when MS bought Bethesda. Exclusive or not??? That is the question the world was waiting for an official answer to. We got the official answer, like it or not. I think there was a lot more anticipation to that question than Halo 20, or whatever it is. Everyone knows it's pretty much going to be the same thing it always has been, just hopefully a bit prettier.
How can you anticipate something that you haven't seen? Its not as if its a sequel to a beloved game that you can base expectations on. Bethesda Studios has a hell of a lot to prove given how buggy there games are upon release and given they have been on a downward trend with Fallout 4 and then Fallout 76. Personally, I would have to pick something we have seen running from a more reliable developer , for example Forza Horizon 5.
I think people anticipate things they have never seen all the time. For example: Maybe there is a food or meal that you have never had before, but you have heard or read a lot about it. Just like if there is a game that people have been talking and writing about for along time. After awhile you have heard so much about this that you are eager to know more and eventually EXPERIENCE for real , not what you think it will hope and be like because that is what you have HEARD. For example: There has been much talk about what platforms this game would release on. Many people were eager to find out the answer. Some ANTICIPATED it would, some ANTICIPATED that MS would keep it to themselves and only release on Xbox and PC. Now we know the answer and wait with more ANTICIAPTION to find out any more information. That's what I think they mean by anticipation. Definition of anticipation 1a: a prior action that takes into account or forestalls a later action hired more security guards in anticipation of a large crowd b: the act of looking forward especially : pleasurable expectation looked forward with anticipation to their arrival
Did anyone sign up for that Chinese bonfire thing that partnered E3 by the way? A country with such a tight grip on controlling what gamers can and can't play, want to be the world's leader in building the gaming community... Right.
Those graphics on Forza though! No complaining there.
All of you, if this were Playstation taking the award, you would be praising this! Fanboys suck! Gamers should be gamers! Not Fanboys! Buy all consoles to experience all fantastic games!
Why would anyone waste money on other gaming consoles if those other consoles don't have any exclusive software one is attracted to or interested in? I'm not buying a console just to say I have it or for bragging rights knowing it's basically sitting home collecting dust.
Forza, really!? Good god... I mean I know it's slim pickings this year, but a driving game is the best this entire E3 had to show? That's sad.
Forza Horizon 4 still sells like hotcakes after 3+ years release
Forza 3 and 4 are so much fun. 5 looks fantastic. Have you played Forza 3 and 4, or just just judging without spending time with the franchise?
Congrats to all the winners!! Xbox games starting to win awards, regardless of the amount of spinning in the comments. Most anticipated xbox game (which is the console solely) - Halo Infinite Most overall anticipated game (all platforms, xbox + PC) - Forza Horizon 5 This is self explanatory after applying logic
That one title, Replaced, has my full attention, it looks 🔥
The winners are... The GAMERS! Congrats everyone. YAY!
