Suit up as Samus Aran in the first new entry of the 2D Metroid saga in more than 19 years, Metroid Dread, launching 10/8.
Kind of gutted it's not Prime 4 but it's something I really want Prime as I'm sick of side scrollers from Nintendo.
When he first mentioned Prime 4 I got excited... but I will still take this as a win because it is a new Metroid game.
I'm not a fan of the Mario or Yoshi sidescrollers, but I prefer 2D Metroid to 3D in most cases (im a fan of Prime 2). I would say metroid is a solid 50/50 between people who prefer 2D vs 3D.
For old fans of Metroid, this is amazing news. Bigger than Metroid Prime 4. We all thought the mainline Metroid series was dead. Metroid Dread itself was confirmed to have had been in development before silently dying. Looks like they're taking the SA-X Pursuer aspect of Metroid Fusion and making it a significant part of Metroid Dread.
Fusion was my favourite game in the series, just had a terrific atmosphere and horror elements, I'm so happy we're getting a squeal to it.
Since we already know MP4 is coming out, this was a great surprise.Best reveal of the show personally, since I didn’t expect it. Wario on the other hand….🤔
Even for a 2D side scroller it seemed unimpressive. Cuphead, Guacamelee, and Xbox’s new pixelated game Replaced look way better than this. But of course it’ll get a free pass because it’s Nintendo we’re talking here.
I’m absolutely adore 2D side scrolling Metroid games!! Super Metroid is “the” greatest game ever created.
At least they acknowledged Prime 4 is still being developed. And I’m really happy that we’re finally getting a sequel after “Fusion”. I remembered it was originally supposed to come out on the Nintendo DS.
I cant wait for this! Day 1 for sure!
Nice touch using the Dread title. I remember it being referenced in one of the Prime games but it never came to be until now. Day 1 for me. Glad the rumor was true.
Best new game announcement of E3 . This with Elden Ring are what I want most out of E3 . Just need to see what Sony has cooking
leave Sony out of these small-time talks. Sony is the teacher that watches Xbox and Nintendo play in the daycare
Yeah, sure, whatever you say, dude.
Yes! This is how Metroid is supposed to be done. Not really a big FPS guy.
So no Metroid Prime then...
Wow, looks pretty good. Interested.
I was too, until I realized it was $60. This game does not command the same money as something like BotW or Odyssey. There's no way this cost the same for them to make or advertise. This simply shouldn't cost $60. I'll play it eventually, but I can't see me biting before $40.
I disagree. I think Hollow Knight and SotN are 2 of the best games of all time, in the same genre, and easily better than most games priced at 60 dollars today. The quality of the game is all that matters to me in the end. Speculation about the budget, while an interesting topic of conversation, is largely irrelevant. I can't imagine how much worse off my gaming experience would have been, had I not played those other games because I presumed the prices were too high. The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.
@zacfoldor I hear you, but Hollow Knight was a $15 game. SotN was released back in the '90s, when practically all games were sidescrollers/2D and expensive - that doesn't really count. I'm not discounting this game could be great! But I can't help but question its value. Value, of course, is very personal. If one person earns minimum wage & supports a child and another person is making over $100k, has no children, etc, then price probably factors very little into whether you'd buy a game or not. I'm not in either camp, but I still care about value. This focus on value is mainly due to what the market has taught me to expect over the years, and one of those is that lower budget games cost less. I mean, the Shadow of the Colossus remake on PS4 was a $40 game and that easily will have a higher budget than a game like this. The economics aren't there to justify the cost. I don't like having to make a distinction, but at the same time I don't want companies to get too comfortable with charging the same price for every experience, regardless of any other factors. It's just anti-consumer.
No, it's 'Dread'. ;)
Good. Back to it's roots again. Been waiting for something like this more than Prime 4.
I loved Fusion back in the day so I'm definitely excited for Dread. I'm a little disappointed about Prime 4 taking so long, but I'm not surprised.
There you go Nintendo wins E3!! METROID!!!!
Thanks, but I had my fill with Metroid Melee Counter: Samus Returns. Metroid Prime 4 looks to be a cross-gen game with the next Nintendo handheld if it ever does get released since right now it is just vaporware.
So this is basically another Metroidvania?
A Metroid game is a metroidvania, what a shocker! /s
Wait until this guy hears about Castlevania.
The games Metroid & Castlevania is what the term "Metroidvania" came from.
That was underwhelming graphically... looked like some run of the mill side-scrolling shooter designed to cater also to the lowest common denominator (smartphones), like that Megaman reskin by Keiji Inafune Mighty No. 9 that got rightfully panned by critics a couple years ago, or barely better... I'll take Mesen's Metroid HD, AM2R, or Super Metroid any day over that.
Finally a Nintendo exclusive that I would definitely play! I loved Metroid on the SNES & this reminds me of the SNES version but with updated graphics. If only there were more Nintendo exclusives I were interested in I would invest in a Switch but I can't do it for just one title.
I have only ever played the 3D Metroid games. I very much enjoyed the prime trilogy. Nonetheless, I am excited for Metroid Dread. The art and designs look amazing so far.
One more reason to buy a switch next year, now is the time!
Poor Metroid franchise that cant escape Nintendos pawns :'(
Feels like I've been waiting all my life for this. It makes this video even more special. RIP MONTY OUM. https://youtu.be/91ze_cblYg...
If anybody is impressed by this, then they haven't played a single game of the same type on Steam. I have seen a ton of games by indie devs that look as good if not better than this. The only difference is that Nintendo will price it ridiculously high.
You aren't wrong. This is $60. I don't really understand how they keep pricing things so high. I guess because people pay it, but the economics should really mean this game retails for $40 max. Like what a top-tier 3DS game used to cost. I was really hoping that's what the 3DS devs getting rolled into Switch production meant - smaller scale games with high quality, but at a lower price. It has ultimately just meant 3DS games that were $30-40 now cost $60 instead.
This game looks good, but truth be told Nintendo needs; to just release the Switch Pro at this point. The fact that the new Marvel Guardians Of The Galaxy game, is cloud based show's; the weakness of the Switch.
For a game 10 years in the making this is really disappointing for a 2D side scroller. Indie devs have made huge strides in this genre with impressive visuals, details and game play. This looks like it was made in 10 days and honestly looks disgustingly lazy. Very disappointed.
It wasn't 10 years in the making, it was cancelled twice when it was a DS game and was always supposed to be a sequel to Metroid Fusion.
I understand that, but the cancelation of the game during those two periods does not negate the fact that the ideas for a new 2D metroid were not there and doesn't warrant a long development time. It counts and so for a game with ideas kicked around for ten years shouldn't have resulted in this travesty. Especially when Sakamoto said the other systems lacked the power to display his vision of a new metroid.
...from metroid 4 to this? instead of 2d side scroller, they should try metroid like botw style or rachet rift apart style.
Prime is still coming, this is being made by the guys who did the 3DS remake of Samus Returns, not Retro Studios.
Finaly a system seller game and metroid in 2D not in 1 person
I was completely hyped for this game for this until I saw the asking price is £50. With all the other top tier metroidvania on the market that launched between £20-30 such as both Ori games, Hollow Knight, Bloodstained, Shadow Complex etc etc I'm struggling to see how they can justify this price point, Especially with its cheap takcky looking graphic style.
