I'm waiting for the apostles to jump on this one.

Orchard1466d ago

Oof, this seems to be happening all the time now. These big tech companies have such weak security.

sourOG1466d ago (Edited 1466d ago )

It’s not just tech. In the US hackers have attacked Pipelines and Meat plants. They made the whole east coast go nuts for a week. It will keep happening because of failed US leadership. Their number one duty is to provide protection from foreign threats and they blow it off. Not even so much as a vague threat. It will continue.

Christopher1466d ago

And the reason is because of IT. Some idiot opened a spam link from inside the network, that's how the ransomware gets on internal systems. The hackers aren't just attacking specific industries, they go after any internal network that opens their links and has a network system/firewall that isn't designed to deal with their ransomware.

On EA here, though, it's more of a brute force of various methods to get into systems that are publicly known because they utilize the same system for sharing content with people like journalists as they do for storing code repositories.

IT-based hacking is increasing greatly every day. My wife has to deal with small businesses that are infiltrated and spoof their e-mails with similar domains to alter payout details at least twice a year. Hackers have access to tons of small business internal emails and they don't even know it until they redirect a payment to their account at the same bank but opened just for the spoofing. And, even then, those small businesses don't have enough money to deal with it.

I disagree. I think IP theft and attacks on vital things like pipelines and water plants are a national security threat and should be treated as such. I don’t care about that random company, I selfishly care about my gas prices and water quality lol. If the government isn’t doing anything we should stop paying them.

Christopher1466d ago

***There isn't much that "US Leadership" can or should do. ***

There actually is. There are laws that require accessibility access/changes to companies, the same could be done for security.

The results of this attack will be felt by the consumers. Shit runs downhill, much like how petrol prices increase to make up for losses during an oil spill.

***They're already doing $70 games with battle passes, yearly game pass and microtransactions so what else will they do? That should cover their losses***

Oh, not to the EA execs.

"The results of this attack will be felt by the consumers. Shit runs downhill, much like how petrol prices increase to make up for losses during an oil spill."

Oh please

It's EA, they don't need an excuse like this, they just do it, they've been doing it for years without hacks and things being leaked.

Like @Chevalier has said enough, $70 games, battle passes, year game passes, MT's, loot boxes and so on. All you are doing is putting the idea into their head to use this as an excuse so they can do it more even though they already are.

Knushwood Butt1466d ago

Can't remember the last EA game I knowingly paid money for.

Is Star Trek Bridge EA? Bought it in a sale, fired it up, it wanted me to agree to some agreement before I could even play it. **** that. Quit. Have never played it.

-Foxtrot1466d ago (Edited 1466d ago )

Come on everyone, you were so sickened by it happening to CD Projekt Red despite the crap they pulled, lets see you feel sorry for EA...

Christopher1466d ago

I am sorry for EA. I'm also sorry for the IT people who have been begging for more funding and will get blamed for this happening. Theft of IP is wrong and the hackers are not the good guys here.

-Foxtrot1466d ago

"I'm also sorry for the IT people who have been begging for more funding"

Well, you're assuming that, it's not a thing confirmed but now maybe because of this they will get funding and if its been mentioned, wrote down, put in an email to higher ups, that's their evidence that they've tried to do something but someone higher up didn't listen. I've seen this happen before.

Anyway, what the hackers did is wrong but it's EA

If it was some sweet little indie developer who hadn't done anything wrong or a studio who's always strived it's best for it's gaming audience then fair enough, it would be terrible and I'd feel really bad for them.

CD Projekt Red - Released a buggy, unfinished game they full well knew was bad but didn't mention a thing and played dumb. They tricked people into buying it to fill their pockets rather than being honest and delaying it again.

EA - Well...it's EA, you already know what they are like

So honestly, and I'm going to be 100% honest instead of being fake about it, no, I don't feel sorry for them.

phoenixwing1466d ago

Have to agree with Chris here. Just because a company doesn't sell things how I want doesn't mean I root for illegal hacking.

Christopher1466d ago

Your opinion of someone doesn't change who did the wrong thing here. You'd surely feel more pity for the small indie studio, but the end result and actions are the exact same thing. The criminals shouldn't be treated differently just because they attacked a company you may not like or one that you do like.

-Foxtrot1466d ago

"Your opinion of someone doesn't change who did the wrong thing here"

Hey I've said the hackers were in the wrong but everytime EA has screwed us over, they were in the wrong aswell so...sorry, this is karma in my opinion.

First, they came for CDPR and we laughed because they released a game in shit condition.
Then they came for EA and we laughed because they are a shitty company.
Then they came for a company we actually cared for because no one cared enough before and no one was laughing.

lodossrage1466d ago

I usually disagree with Christopher,

But this time he does have a good point. We can't be ok when malicious things happen to companies we dislike. But then suddenly be up in arms when it happens to someone we do like.

We have to have the same opinion on wicked behavior regardless of the company being seen as benevolent or malevolent.

Christopher1464d ago

I don't know if I normally disagree with lodossrage or not in the past, but I agree with them this time.

Tempting... but I have to say I am more of an arcade deluxe cab fan. I loved the ones for Galaxy Force, Thunder Blade and After Burner.
