I am near certain that they made GoW and HFW cross-plat because of console sales numbers.

Absolutely, even before covid they knew the ps4 sales numbers, it’s better for everyone this way unless they want to delay another two years which would be bad financially.

Why are people pretending Returnal and Ratchet are next gen exclusives when it comes to this cross-gen talk? Cross-gen titles was never an issue. They have always existed. Not having ANY next-gen only titles is an issue because those have always existed as well.

"Cross-gen titles was never an issue. They have always existed."

In 3rd party titles like COD/FIFA/Battlefield, sure, cross gen has always been a thing, but first party is expected to flex the hardware they are running on, and they can't do that when they have to accommodate for 2013 tech.

MrBeatdown1433d ago

I remember God of War 2 coming out on PS2 after PS3 released. And it wasn't on PS3 at all for two and a half more years.

Syphon Filter 3 came out in November 2001 on PS1. A full year after PS2 released.

Both Last of Us games came out in launch years on the old systems.

MLB was cross-gen on PS3 and PS4.

Little big planet 3 was cross-gen on PS3 and PS4.

Sony's always continued to support the last generation.

generic-user-name1432d ago

@MrBeatdown

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Syphon Filter 3, God of War 2, Last of Us were all exclusives, not hampered by a previous generation. TLOU on PS4 was a remaster before you bring that up.

The only true comparisons here are MLB and LBP3, a sports game where it makes more sense to be on as many platforms as possible and a sequel to a series that was off-loaded to a 3rd party studio. In other words, nobody really cares too much if those games are held back technically.

God of War, Horizon and GT7 on the other hand? Those are tentpole exclusives that only come around once or twice in a generation (PS4 had 1 GoW, 1 Horizon and 1 GT) and you're going to gimp these with 2013 tech for the sake of some short term sales? Foolish from Sony, bad for gamers.

MrBeatdown1432d ago

That sounds like a whole lot of nonsense.

The only difference between God of War 2 and Ragnarok is that Ragnarok will actually be on the next-gen system.

You're saying that first party games are supposed to flex the new hardware, when Sony often releases games made for old hardware right before, and after launch, sometimes exclusively for old hardware.

"Returnal, Ratchet..."

Yeah, not much of a list. PS4 launched with at least 3 on day 1 and nobody was saying it made sense for Shadowfall or Knack to be PS3 titles back then. And when is the next one after Ratchet? We literally have no idea. What we do know is that Horizon, GoW and GT7, Sony's 3 biggest announced games so far, will have to be designed around 2013 hardware.

Vizigoth041433d ago

My guess after Ratchet it will be Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop. With the small exception of Intergrade which in think I’ll just replay FF7 Remake again with the PS5 patch and purchase Yuffies’ DLC.

OB1Biker1433d ago (Edited 1433d ago )

There are more 'next gen' titles for PS5 than there were for PS4 in the time frame.
There also are more cross gen titles for PS5 but LBP3 was also cross gen on PS4 for instance.
There are simply way more games for PS5 than there were for PS4.

Might wanna spell check the title.

-Ghost1435d ago

Nah, leave it 🤣 How fast can you say the right title and the wrong one back to back without messing up

garos821435d ago

sigh here we go again. the games will not be the best they can possibly be because you really are being anchored down to old systems.

I Watched the Leaked Horizon AI Tech Demo Through My Fingers

Maybe I'm turning into "old man yells at cloud."

So lame, a tech demo was conducted to test new technology. This is nothing new; they've been doing this since the 1980s. There have been thousands of tech demos that led to nothing. That said, AI is here to stay, and it will eventually find its way into games in one form or another. It's time to stop the overly dramatic reactions and accept reality.

Christopher45d ago

Talk about a 180 midway through your argument. Perhaps that 180 is why people are talking about it?

darthv7245d ago

What he said was not wrong though... AI is here and being used more and more is different industries. Its not like it is going away anytime soon.

Christopher44d ago

@darth: Where did I say he was wrong other than expressing that it's this thinking that people are talking about it? He complained about people talking about a tech demo being shown to the public as an expression of AI's use being popularized and then proved it with his own words. I didn't say they were wrong, only it only gives credence to those who are worried about the popularization and use of AI in the industry to replace actual actors.

Rancegamerx44d ago

I can see what you mean. What I am getting at is just because they did a tech demo with Aloy using AI to voice doesn't meam that this particular tech will ever actually be used. Although I personally think it will, if we can get voices to sound more natural and real. Unless it's stopped by voice actors.

darthv7244d ago

that is the current situation. voice actors are 'voicing' their concern over the use of AI. im sure you have heard those TV commercials where you can tell its an AI voice. But as things improve... there will be a point where nobody will be able to tell the difference.

gold_drake44d ago

there is this website from a bunch of devs who developed a more enhanced AI conversational voice thing, where u can talk to them.

i did for 10 minutes and it freaked me out how real it sounded. it did glitch a few times but damn. the, in real time, chatter and response was amazing and frightening at the same time ha

Kyizen44d ago

One of the original Toy Story developers summed it up nicely. Basically when they were doing Toy Story people were shocked you are going from hand drawn art to computers but now no one blinks an eye and most if not all anime is 'drawn' on computers. But he also stated this didn't replace artist but just gave them a new tool to use. Now with AI the author is saying it will replace writing but it won't, using it to have dynamic conversations with NPCs or chatter as the character explores the world will avoid that repetitive banter. You will still need writers to craft a good story and make a compelling character(s).
