If I was too stingy to buy a PlayStation, as a PC gamer I wouldn't have a problem waiting the time it took for HZD or Days Gone to release on PC after their initial inception on PS... like what, 3 or 4 years? They said Days Gone was number 1 on steam for like a week, and that and the PS plus promo kicked up the sales of Days Gone. I think PS games on PC will be a good thing in the long run.

There is no value to a consumer who cannot play a specific game because it is only on a specific platform that they don't own.

Exclusives are designed to encourage a consumer to buy a specific platform. If there were no exclusives then the platform wars would disappear and gamers would be one community rather then PC/MAC/PS/XB/Switch, etc.

I think he gave a clear time time to be honest when he mentioned days gone. It took 2 years so expect that at the very least. Games make the most profit in their first 90-120 days because that's when it's selling for full price

2-3 years is good enough time because those who want to play will buy a console to play and the select few Willings to wait will pay full price on pc long after release. I still don't think we will see their biggest heavy hitters anytime soon

God of war won't happen (this is their biggest IP in my opinion at the moment)

The point is that Matt Booty was upfront with the Xbox community (before the console released) and told us that Series X exclusives wouldn't be available for the first two years of the console's lifespan.

Sony waited to tell us that Miles Morales, GT7, HZ2, and Ragnarok were cross-gen until they were pressured by the gaming media to spill the beans.

One company was transparent (and criticized for doing so), while the other wasn't transparent.

I remember all the crap MS was getting for being honest about doing crossgen games for 1-2 years. And sony was quiet, but now that they too admit they are doing the same... so what. I welcome them supporting crossgen for as long as they can. It makes PS4 owners happy they get new games and it makes PS5 owners happy that they will get the best versions of those games. How could anyone really be upset at this?

I am not a fan of Sony's approach to this generation. I have owned every Sony console since the ps1, with the exception of the handheld console. I buy consoles to play new experiences that push the tech, and advance games forward. When you design a game for a weak for 2013 jaguar cpu, that game will have limitations that if you had designed specifically for the ps5 you wouldn't have. I don't care how Sony tries to spin it....that is just ridiculous. As I said, I have owned every Sony console, but if they don't focus on giving the ps5 the games designed specifically for it that it deserves, this may very well be the last Sony console I buy. It's that disappointing for me personally to see this new approach Sony is taking. It didn't happen in any other generation. If Naughty Dog's next game is also going to be cross generational, that will be the final straw for me.

@JEECE, I'm going to assume you have a PS5, so here is a legit question. Do you really feel that the announcement of there being more cross gen games in some way devalues the PS5?

For me personally... no. And it is because i know how much more this system can and will offer over time that i fully understand their decision to keep the 4 alive and its player base happy in the mean time. There will come a point where the 5 will be more attainable and people will make that shift in even higher numbers, but now is not that time. And now is not the time to cut off support for the PS4.

I am reminded of the criticism that MS received for cutting off the 360 and moving over to the next gen. And here you and others are basically doing the same thing. Wanting Sony to pull the plug on the 4 in terms of it receiving some high quality titles during this transition period. I'm sure there are WAY more PS4 owners who are excited by this news than there are PS5 owners who are disappointed.

As a 5 owner myself, I really like this news as it means that I can buy both. The 5 version of a GoW for myself and the 4 version for my son. We both win and Sony ends up making $$ off me twice. Under no circumstances do I feel slighted or cheated out of something because I still get to enjoy the best version I can while my son gets to do the same.

Jim Ryan was clearly being deceptive. Look at the context - his comment was a response to MS promoting the benefits of cross gen games when Sony were secretly doing the same thing for some of their biggest games. They intentionally didn't reveal that GOW2 would be on the PS4. There was also a recent article about Sony wanting the PS4 to have the longest sales tail for a PS console (I knew this game would also be on last gen the moment I read that). It's disappointing that GOW is going to be crossgen, even a rabid Playstation fanboy like myself has to admit that. But it also makes a hell of a lot of business sense, particularly given the state of things right now. It's not good for those lucky enough to have bagged a PS5 but for everyone else it's a win.
Also the fact it's crossgen doesn't mean for one second that the game can't be an incredible experience, and like Forbidden West I'm sure that the visuals will be stunning and that it will be a worthy successor, it just not likely to be a revolutionary one.
I just hope that we see more exclusives that take full advantage of the hardware in year 2....

That’s a good way to look at it as a rabid fanboy. You also have to remember that Sony is giving these games away with plus subscriptions. These are old (but great) games making little to no moves. The "we believe in generations" line was misleading for sure. I would like new exclusives to take full advantage of the PS5, games that can't be done on PS4 not just in the graphic sense, but also in the game design sense.

Even though I am not happy with the decision, I am not going to give middle fingers to the developers that brought us Uncharted, The Last of Us, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, I believe in them on delivering amazing exclusives regardless which platforms are supported, and I will continue to support them with my hard earned money.

With the continued PS5 shortage this year and possibly next year, it would mean A LOT OF PS fans won't be able to play HFW or God of War 2 for a very long time if all these games are PS5 only, and also mean these games are getting a lot less money in return for the effort they put in, which is not good for anyone.

HZD, GoW and GT Sport released mid cycle of PS4, I believe they have started the development of the sequel before PS5 spec was even close to finalized, and most likely they were all started as a PS4 games more than PS5 games.

But since TLOU2 and Ghost released near the end of PS4, I expect their next games to be PS5 exclusive.

Regarding to PC ports, no need to sound like these studio would put their main team to do the port, they have specific teams to handle ports, so it is not hindering any developments, for me, I got my PS5 to play Sony exclusives day one, I don't care it goes to PC few years afterward, more revenue for each game, the bigger budget each of these studio would get for their next project.

Either way I would start to worry when I have played the new games and they actually feel last gen.

And to all XBox gamers, ya, not cool that Sony pulled a 180, but worry about Halo Infinite reveal first, talk shit to Sony when XBox has any sort of amazing exclusives released, for your own good, demands more from MS.

not misleading, just misunderstood. The way i see it, all the diehard PS fans saw it as some sort of vindication that PS5 will be the best it can be. And there is nothing to say otherwise. Even with cross gen games, the 5 version will be head and shoulders above the 4. It will be able to do stuff the previous system cannot. It will be the definitive edition so to speak so really it is no big deal that the 4 will continue to get many of the same games. Im sure the 4 owners appreciate the continued support. Just because there is a 4 version does not mean the 5 wont be taken advantage of. Im sure in comparison videos from DF they will show the full power of the 5 is at hand while the 4 has to take some liberties to ensure performance remains solid.

These consoles are like cars. Just because the new model has arrived doesnt mean the old one is no longer worthy to drive. There is still much horsepower under that hood.

A fair few positives 25 first party titles in development that is great and is very exciting.

However, I'm disappointed in god of war releasing on PS4. Now they have to factor in a 7 year old console. So they are holding the potential back. I get it over 100+ potential PS4 owners get to play it. But as a PS5 owner this is a bit disappointing. GT7 I can't be to hard on it's a closed circuit racing SIM.

Another positive for me at least is Sony don't seem to be turning into Microsoft and releasing all first party games on pc. No day one pc games and sounds like it won't be all games. Witch is fine get as much money for it on PS4/5 then 2 years later charge PC users £45 for it to gain extra coin.

Since I haven't gotten a PS5 yet and don't expect to get one until summer of next year, i don't mind if games are coming out for both generations.

I just want the games to come out when they're ready, and when I get a system next year all those games will be much cheaper to purchase, whether brand new or on sale.

I don't plan on getting thr PS4 version of au new games, as that for me is just taking up more space on thr PS5 by installing the PS4 game then installing what ever upgrade is needed for the PS5. That I think would be using more space than just installing the PS5 version of a game. Also i don't know but is a 1 terabyte SSD for the PS5 less space than a 1tb HHD for thr PS4, the usable space (GBs) I mean?

They would be the same capacity regardless of system. As for the amount of games you could store on each, you could prob store more on PS5 due to the way it compresses the data to save space. something the PS4 does not do.

Sony is in good hands and is had been absolutely crushing it by releasing some good games at launch.

For those who don't seem to comprehend. PS saw 250% on ROI for the few older games they put on PC. The are a business and they are there for one reason....to make a profit. They will continue to put more of their games on PC. Right now they are older games and it may stay that way, but I wouldn't bet on it. The PC market is to huge to ignore. I think some people are upset that these games will not be a PS exclusive because they enjoyed the argument that these games have always been only. PS exclusive, thus taking away the argument that Xbox has no exclusives/you don't need an Xbox if you own a PC. Sony will make great games and they will try to make the most amount of profit. They don't care about imaginary console wars. They will continue their business practices, but as any successful company they will adapt if necessary. Remember at one time, Sony said that online gaming was a gimmick and wouldn't last long. They adapted and intergrated online gaming into the magic that is PS. That said, they still make some of the best single player layer games. Arguably they haven't made a game that garners the title MP king. Sure there are some really good MP games on PS, but not the tops in MP. They have tried with Haze, Killzone and Resisitance, but they didn't pull the numbers of the big bangers like COD, Halo, Gears, BF, etc. Guess what though? They don't have to at all. BTW, Resistance was one of my favorote games in yhe PS3 era. The only other shooter that pulled me away from Gears. Wish they would make another Resisitance!

As far as GoW being delayed. That's wuite alright. I was always thinking that when people said a new GoW is coming soon, I thought it was too soon. It will only come out nore polished. Many more games across all platforms will get delayed. Better to announce a delay, than to show footage and it gets delayed due to huge glaring issues.

It thought GT was confirmed as a PS5 exclusive. I'm not at all surprised it's coming to PS4 though. I always thought it looked like a PS4 game. GoW PS4 was obvious

Because doing for a platform you can get the best of the system. Thats why exclusives from sony are so good and win so many awards. They arent force to put the game also on pc day one. Thats why they can push so much with much lower tech then on pc's...

I honestly don't see why they can't get the most out of PS5 while developing a PC port. My thought is that they develop their games for PS5, and a separate team ports the game over to PC. It's not like PCs is underpowered.

I have to say that find this particular discussion a bit more interesting than the usual Sony vs Xbox fanboy comment threads. As a Sony fan, I do like the idea of supporting PC in the long run, but I do understand why some fans are reacting negatively to it. I think it is a little more nuanced than @TheRealTedCruz's suggestion that Sony fans just want to own their own exclusive box.

For a while now, I have seen the argument that console gaming should become a thing of the past. Microsoft seems committed to phasing the "box" out eventually in favor of a streaming service. While I don't think we are quite there yet, I am not so naïve as to think that we won't see that happen eventually.

So the question becomes, why support consoles if we as consumers don't really need them? To me consoles have always provided a healthy balance to the industry. Developers can spend a few years focusing on a generation without having to constantly push graphics out for the newest GPUs. This helps promote quality in design. We also have health industry competition. Sony has Insomniac developing the new Ratchet and Clank to specifically promote its own unique hardware, for example. Consumers can buy hardware that is accessible and easy to use for a cheap price point. It's a win win.

Consoles also open the door to more innovation. Things like VR headsets, motion controls, and haptic feedback controllers would have an impossibly uphill battle if the manufacturers had to convince each third party developer to develop their games for these platforms without any sort of install base.

If you take all of this away and make the technology accessible on every device, what you are basically left with is the mobile games industry. Every dev will start developing games to the least common denominator and the end product will be bland. This is why I am a vocal critic of Game Pass.

I certainly feel a bit bummed that GT7 could be cross gen.
Then again they already working on GT7 way before PS5 spec were finalized so I can't blame them go cross gen but of course fans are going to feel livid about this.
But again we still see nothing no update since last year I'll just wait and see.

Yup if Sony was going to release all their titles on PC. Don't you think the Uncharted Collection and the last of us collection, God of war, Bloodborne for example would have been announced or released on PC by now?

Face is PC players are going to get drips and drabs of Sony first party titles. Plus are expected to pay near full price for them spite them being 2+ years old on PlayStation.

I really enjoyed the read of the interview and I think it's a great move on Sony's part to have a huge interview with this guy and dousing the flames they made in the recent past. Hulst seems like a friendly and compassionate person and the tone resonate in the whole interview (in contrast to a Ryan read that feels more and more like Don Mattrick).

All aspects of recent controversies were mentioned in the Interview.
- We are still doing new Ip
- Japan is still important to us
- Bend Studio is working on a new IP
- Yes upcoming major AAA games are cross-gen
- Major crunch time and poor working conditions are sooooooo 2020
- Etc.

I even like that he gave us a bit of scoop regarding the next State or Play (E3 version) and Horizon Forbidden West
that they will probably announce the release date of Christmas 2021 to make us wait and again is warning us that in, Sony typical fashion, that it will be pushed back to the real march 2022 release date.

Chip shortage + pandemic = not enough PS5s. They have to release games crossgen to make back development cost because your chances of doing that with just 8 million or so PS5s is not gonna cut it.
