Microsoft has officially taken over publishing rights for "future iterations" of The Outer Worlds from Private Division, and that news arrived a day after Take-Two Interactive's president said the company was fully committed to the franchise.
Not at all surprising. Will be interesting where this franchise goes given that Obsidian has Grounded, Outer Worlds, and Avowed. Plus they have background in the Fallout series.
Let's not act like Bethesda games were perfect to begin with. They are still using a old engine and their games are known to have great breaking bugs at launch and some aren't fixed
I really hope Ms forces them to switch engines. Now they are in
I've never really cared for Bethesda games tbh, the last one of their games I enjoyed was Oblivion, and even that I wasn't a huge fan of. I'm more disappointed about id Software but that's why I have a PC.
So, what if he really doesn’t like what The Outer Worlds has to offer? He never mentioned any console, but you, on the other hand, decided to turn his comment into a PS vs Xbox thing, which speaks volumes. It is ok not to like something, even if everyone seems to love it, there’s people that will not share the same opinion.
The Outer Worlds is Obsidian, a good developer that will be completely ruined by Microsoft's business model. As for Bethesda, that company earned its hate well before the acquisition. It's just sad to see some people deluding themselves into thinking Microsoft can fix that dumpster fire.
This game for me personally didn't live up to the hype. Let's remember this was announced when people got FO76 so even in reveal trailer they took cheap shots at Bethesda
I love FO and this was no where near as good but let's also remember take two didn't give them give AAA budget. This was a mid budget title. Ms may see it differently and fund/develop it with AAA budget. Overall I see potential in this IP if give enough resources

Exactly why I don't believe all these execs like the recent execs of square Enix and all them denying they were ever approached by anyone. This type of stuff always happens. It's like when insomniac said they were waiting for a publisher to pick up sunset overdrive 2 and they would love to make it and about a month later Sony bought them. They weren't bought in a few days. These things take months, sometimes years like the Bethesda acquisition that took about 3 years. Google and Amazon also are subject to this as well saying everything was going great and then cutting studios. It's always smoke and mirrors.
The article says this statement was made after the statement from take two saying they (take two) were going to fully support the game and future iterations themselves. It also says in the article it was clears up that Microsoft and obsidian, so Microsoft are going to take the future iterations forward.
I'm just noting how either none of these execs know what their talking about, or they are intentionally lying.
They have to act as if nothing has happened... legally. Failing todo so could see any purchase or merger fall through or they could accidentally break the law and as a consequence be in deep shit.
Well, hardly a surprise. I don't suppose they bought Obsidian in order to have them release amazing PlayStation versions of their games so PC Xbox exclusivity is inevitable.
Private Division [Take Two’s subsidiary] has publishing rights for the Outer Worlds 1 . Take Two is contractually obligated to publish to publish the Outer World 1 for now.
Because it did so well right? Let’s get real. This game and its sleepy dlc releases did not do well for Obsidian at all and they were already in a bad spot. People were banking on a classic Obsidian experience and got more...Bethesda. :/ Wow...look what I can do.
Too bad Outerworlds is NOT the same Obsidian staff that did New Vegas (handful at best, those peeps have long since moved on). Now they can truly one-trick pony that engine and genre to death. All the Bethsda games play so much alike now they may as well start the ip crossovers and weird spinoffs.
Josh Sawyer is still there. Chris Avellone is not though and for good reason. Tim Kane is a great lead designer, but it seems like his writing is a little bland without the help of these other guys.
Honestly, as a Sony fan this is the only acquisition that actually hurts. These guys always did have talent. I'm sure those always online looter shooters they will have to pump out now will be just a bit edgier than Bethesda's.
MS it sure is throwing money in every direction to buy studios, still I think this will not benefit them in the long run cause they lack the experience in what an exclusive is.
All it takes is a budget PC. I love Obsidian and Bethesda but these devs aren't really competent enough to feature things like Ray tracing and 4K HDR support. I imagine a GTX780 will be able to handle everything up the Elder Scrolls 6.
Lame. They already bought out Bethesda. Now they tied up the only alternative for those looking for that Fallout style fix. I really enjoyed the original on Switch.

This not my Kind of scifi Looks stupide
In other "no duh" news today...
Not surprised they acquired Obsidian and all the games that Obsidian owned.
