RDR2 Shown Running in 8K/Ultra with Ray Tracing Reshade

One of the biggest key benefits to PC gaming is that if a title comes out broken or needs potentially improving in some (even bizarre) way, the modding community is nearly always happy to oblige you with something that the developer will not. Following a new video posted by 'Digital Dreams', however, there are no two ways about it, this is the most graphically glorious version of Red Dead Redemption 2 we have ever seen! Red Dead Redemption 2 - 8K Ultra Ray Tracing Glory! Shown running remarkably well with an 8K resolution, ultra graphics settings, and with Ray Tracing

Binarycode1484d ago

Nobody cares about 8k. Pointless. There's a reason DLSS is the thing going forward. Diminishing returns.

What RDR2 needed was better animations, quicker input.

0rbital711484d ago

no one cares about 4k either, just make games that look great at 1080p 60 fps

Army_of_Darkness1484d ago (Edited 1484d ago )

I care. Anything 2k and above is a significantly noticeable difference from 1080p.... 8k isn't really needed at the moment considering how 4k@60fps isn't even the standard yet.

1nsomniac1484d ago

We shouldn’t be seeing anything below 2k/1440p unless it’s using exceptional reconstruction techniques.

bouzebbal1484d ago

This game can run at 80K, it plays like a ps1 game it's so stiff that it's laughable

Babadook71484d ago

There’s a curious side effect of the reshade here where the distant land is sunny but as you get closer the terrain appears to get cloud covered.

warriorcase1484d ago

Plenty of people care about 4k as the majority of TV's currently sold now are 4k.

PrinceAli1484d ago

You must be stupid lool.. 1080p is long dead as a great representation of content...

"Nobody" seems a bit of an overstatement, you don't speak for everyone lol

neutralgamer19921484d ago

3-5 second looting animations instead of automatic pickup of useful items when waking over bodies

A completely broken fast travel system that forces you to ride the horse so game length could be more

Cheats disable trophies and achievements which is totally fair but they also disable the possibility of saving game progress. It's like R* want us to play the way they wanted the game to be played and gamers aren't allowed to have fun

No everyone cares about trophies just want want to play having fun. Fast travel anywhere as long as you have visited that spot before, shorter animations and quicker inputs

It's the only game I never finished because it was too much for a drag and I love R* games but from gta3 to now they have gone after realism at the cost of gameplay fun

I rather game not be 100% realistic but fun to play and I know my opinion is in minority

NealGamby1484d ago (Edited 1484d ago )

Do you automatically pick up shit just by walking over it IRL? No. So your argument makes no sense when talking about a video game that is targeting realism. Is it a perfect game, no. But you're just being silly.

neutralgamer19921484d ago

Neal

I did say they went for realism but too much realism at cost of fun in my humble opinion isn't a good trade off

Saints row 2-3 are more fun(in my opinion) than GTA 4-5. Original RDR didn't have these long animations

VENOM OF SINS1484d ago

“It's like R* want us to play the way they wanted the game to be played and gamers aren't allowed to have fun“

...walks into a restaurant, enters the kitchen and cooks his own steak. Uses cooked steak as ceramic plate for bullet proof vest. Gives cook staff lip for having a set menu, but “showed them how it’s done”.

chiefJohn1171484d ago (Edited 1484d ago )

I love the looting system much more realistic and interesting and rewarding

Great decision it forces you to travel and explore the most live, filled world in video game history. I'd miss more than half the random events, and easter eggs, hidden treasures if I did fast travel.

Duh the game is centered on realism. It's more of a Sim than arcade.

Nope like I said it's more of a Sim so if you don't like it the game wasn't meant for you

It is fun to play, in fact it's game of the Gen. you simply don't like a challenge or exploring.

Hopefully GTA6 goes the same route but to please everyone have settings where you can switch to an arcade mode (easy?)where pickups can be walked over and faster animations, etc. While Sim mode (hard?) All those things are removed/dialed down. And have to get Gas for your car

"Noby cares about 8k"

That only extends to people who only accept pancake games and nothing else. Meanwhile, in VR where gaming as a medium is taking massive strides forward...

I want a current gen patch for consoles.

Duke191484d ago

lol @ the "Close to Realism!" in the video title. We are so far from photorealism in gaming yet, and it has very little to do with resolution

0rbital711484d ago

im not sure i see in 4k in real life haha, just make the games look good

eTeknix1484d ago

Haha, 16K, that'll do it ;)

0rbital711484d ago

my eyes are bad 1080p and 60 fps looks like 8k to me haha

bloop1484d ago

I'd argue some games are very close to photorealism, especially when it comes to environments. Humans and animals, not so much yet.

bacano1484d ago

I agree with you about resolution not being crucial, but I wouldn't neglect the huge step towards photorealism in current games' graphics.

Atticus_finch1483d ago

After 2k the resolution doesn't matter it's simply a lazy way to try and make your game look better. Animations and particle effects do so much more for the experience than resolution. I will always prefer a more dynamic and destructible environment any day.

GamingInFrames1484d ago

Probably a very sub 60. It takes 2 - 3090's to run RD2 at its highest settings - at a native 4K to keep it from dipping below 60.

I hope it's a remake of the 1st game. But it's probably just the PS5 version of Red Dead Redemption 2

OtterX1d 1h ago

I hope a PS5 upgrade launches on the same day as announcement & it costs no more than $10. I already bought the Ultimate Edition once, they got good money from me.

I stopped playing completely 2 years ago until they did 60fps. I really didn't expect it would take this long & I didn't want to start completely over on PC.

dmonee13h ago

My wish is that its optimized for current gen machines, with some sort of story expansion. Undead nightmare 2! My 2nd wish is that it just shadow drops on the day of the announcement!.

Lionsguard13h ago

Give me my RDR2 Undead Nightmare already.

*Remaster
not Remake
People still confuse the terms in 2025.

CrimsonWing698d ago

It kills me that at this point they still can’t. Like when people complain that The Last of Us has too many Remasters… when they literally have 1 and then a PS5 Remake 🤦‍♂️

Lionsguard8d ago

Sure, in 15 years maybe. I'm playing it right now and it looks better than most games today.

mkis0078d ago

I think it's not too much to ask for a current gen native version, like we got for gta 5

Lionsguard8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

That's not really a remaster or a remake, it's a patch at most.

Rumour: Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 Version Is Real, Out This Year

The possibility of a PS5 version for Red Dead Redemption 2 just became a bit more realistic, as the very reliable leaker NateTheHate has claimed in his latest predictions podcast that a next-gen version of the Rockstar open worlder is in the works.

On the podcast, he said: "Those rumours are true. Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting a next-gen update and the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year." They go on to say that they were told the new versions will launch "a few months" after Switch 2's release, which is tomorrow. They then speculate a late summer / early fall launch window.

Please please please. My dualsense needs this game.

Aloymetal11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Yup, this game needs that sweet 60fps treatment. Can't wait I hope this is real.

andy8511d ago

Be rude not to give it another play. Definitely won't be going for the platinum this time. That was hell 😂

lukasmain10d ago

Lol it was even harder at launch. It took me a very long time. Apparently I've heard they made it easier getting the gold medals for missions in some way. But at launch time it was a pain because after you finish the story and go back to play missions to get the medals, you lose all your perks and abilities, your dead eye level and guns everything etc. You just have the stock standard bare minimum with crap guns. If I had have known they were going to do that, I would have made sure I got gold medals when I was playing the story. But I got it in the end. Pretty sure the trophies would auto-pop on a PS5 version

Cacabunga10d ago

Yes you are right.. you equipment from the main game carried on when you go for gold medals which is always something!
Also the fact you don’t need to get gold on every mission is the big thing.

Still a massive plat and one of the few I am very happy to possess

jznrpg11d ago

Nice! I’ll add it to my collection

aaronlif1011d ago

I sincerely hope we finally get a next gen update to this game. It is long overdue. I'd love to see ray tracing and enhanced lighting get added. Perhaps more npc's or animals, ect.
