Imagine a self-powering cell phone that never needs to be charged because it converts sound waves produced by the user into the energy it needs to keep running. It's not as far-fetched as it may seem thanks to the recent work of Tahir Cagin, a professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University.

This is pretty amazing. If we can harness this technology and use it to power more and more objects, I wonder if this could lead to frequency-powered cars or trains...

If that is where we are heading, it would be a fantastic thing. Probably wouldn't count on that sort of advancement of technology for quite a while though. If we even get to that point, at all, that is.

Either way: Very interesting. And definitely a step in the right direction :)
