The PS5 Is Starting to Look Like the Revolution It Promised

What’s happening with Sony’s latest console, now that it’s been out for six months? Supply issues aside, it’s proving to be much more than a simple evolution.

darthv721072d ago

I really like the controller and astro was a great way for people to experience what it is capable of. I have been enjoying its benefits for existing games but all of that will change on June 11th.

kayoss1072d ago

I really enjoyed Astro, but i wished it was actually a full blown game.

SullysCigar1072d ago

I'd wager there's a sequel in the works for the launch of PSVR2. The first is one of the best games in VR to date.

MetroidFREAK211071d ago

That was my first ever platinum on a PlayStation console. I enjoyed it immensely and it was a great little showcase for the controller. I loved every moment. I want a full blown sequel with the same tech and level design philosophy. To think, I was gonna skip playing it when I got my PS5 on launch... silly ole dumb me

Scissorman821071d ago

True, but if that was the case, would the game still have been free? It was just beefy enough and now we can all look forward to a pull blown Astro game in the future. :)

June 11th is when Ratchet & Clank releases for all the naysayers. It's going to be popping like Kellogg's Rice Krispies Yo! 😁

CaptainHenry9161072d ago

I have to agree with you on that

Christopher1072d ago (Edited 1072d ago )

So it will eventually get soggy, unappealing, and won't pop at all? (yes, I'm purposefully being too realistic, it's a joke, even if it's a bad one)

1072d ago
CobraKai1072d ago

I didn’t think it would be that big of a deal, but now I get excited when I hear how devs utilize the Dual Sense

CaptainHenry9161072d ago (Edited 1072d ago )

Even Returnal takes advantage of its controller and 3D audio. Rachet and Clank is around the corner by the way. Another exclusive

25+ Playstation Studios games which includes about half being new IP's. Though they aren't all first party since Returnal and Destruction All Stars were also under the Playstation Studios label, it's still awesome to hear how they are investing in so many games that are both big, small, and from different genres.

Vizigoth041072d ago

Sounds like 14 existing IPs and 11 Entirely New IPs then. I’m down as long as they genuinely keep them staggered as they have. April = Returnal
June = RC: Rift Apart
August = Kena Bridge of Sprits
October = Forbidden West?

Sunny123451072d ago

Ff7 intergrade in June as well

DRambo1072d ago

I have a day one ps5 and I still haven't bought a ps5 game, just enjoying the ps5 enhancements. £70 for a game has put me off, but R&Clank will be day one.

purple1011072d ago

I'm playing Wreckfest
And cod mw.

Will play Abe's oddest next month

And ratchet and clank after that.

There is no shortage.

darthv721072d ago

I switched wreckfest from series s (gamepass) to ps5 (ps+) because of the 60fps mode. 60fps is a real game changer.

oldenjon1072d ago (Edited 1072d ago )

Stop whinging. I don't see anyone complaining fast food is an average of $10 a meal now. Eat out a few times a week and you've almost paid for a ps5 game. Gamers want to cry about micro transactions but can't be bothered to pay a few more dollars at retail. It's nonsense, just one of those things that gets repeated w/o any critical thought on the matter.

Paleblood1072d ago

I agree with you. People spend lots of mo ey on micro transactions and DLC and deluxe editions but cannot pay 10 dollars more for a quality amazing game like Demon Souls, Returnal or Rift Apart?

I thinks whinners are just using this as an excuse the same way they are crying about scalpers now.

CrimsonWing691072d ago (Edited 1072d ago )

Some people are voting with their wallets.

When is it not going to be just "a few more dollars at retail"? $80 is only $10 more than $70, $90 is only just $10 than $80. When is it ok for people to start "whining" about a completely unnecessary raise in price only because the industry can dictate that?

Hell, not all next-gen games are $70 so that goes to show you how pointless the price hike is. It's not the $10 hike that people can't do, it's the principle of the fact of the matter.

SurgicalMenace1072d ago

Exactly my point. Gaming is a luxury not a necessity so griping about the price of something you don't need is asinine. If it's a problem, save your money and be responsible.

oldenjon1072d ago (Edited 1072d ago )

@CrimsonWing69 Games prices have historically increased every couple console generations. There's no reason to expect an arbitrary increase to $80 or $90 this gen, that's just dumb. You might not pay it now but you'll pay it later if you want to keep playing games. All you're doing is hurting the developers that release good games early in this gen, disincentivizing sequels/DLC and quality next gen content. That's what your vote is actually doing.

There haven't been many next gen/ PS5 exclusive titles, but Demon's Souls and Returnal are priced consistently so I don't know WTF you're talking about.

WHY EVEN BUY A PS5 IF YOU REFUSE TO BUY GAMES FOR IT!?

DRambo1072d ago

People need to stop talking shite about price. Ps5 games are not 10usd more. A typical full price PS4 game would be £45 and with ps5 that has jumped to £70. Would you like me to calculate the increase as a percentage for you? All this at a time when the gaming industry is making more money than ever.

SurgicalMenace1072d ago

Might I ask, what's the point? I really don't see the argument behind the 10 difference between this and last gen. The same thing took place between the last gen and the previous one. I do understand that there are a lot of people struggling but why even bother buying games? Isn't there more important things to do with your money?

Teflon021072d ago

Entitlement is what it is. It's weird to me because here in Canada people didn't stop gaming because the games prices went from $60 to $80 within 2 years DURING the PS4 Xone gen lol. Some do buy online now to save the tax but if you want a game buy it. If you don't like the price just don't buy it. This whole thing they're doing about "it's $70 so I'm not buying" is just weird lol.

Kurt Russell1072d ago

I think you'll find a lot of us who are complaining are not US citizens. To put in perspective the price hike in the UK has made the games $98.47 (£70) a pop. They were generally £50 towards end of last gen $70.38. That is a significant rise.

The price is even higher when you consider special editions and micro transactions have not gone away on a majority of titles. So yeah. I am in the camp that the price was too high and am still yet to buy a first party game on my PS5 due to this.

tombfan1072d ago

$70.00 dollars for a game with no MS and probably no DLC... so yeah, that's that. And if there's DLC it'll be probably free or an amazing add-on for a reasonable price.

Vizigoth041072d ago

Have you tried playing any of the games from the PS Collection? There’s a bunch to get after and download directly. Free of course if you have a PS Plus subscription

StoneyYoshi1072d ago

Im sure he has but he didn't have to buy them. He just meant he didn't buy any games yet but is enjoying the enhanced games and probably the PS+ games.

jznrpg1072d ago

Look at the inflation rates that came out today . Everything has gone up in price but games haven’t in a long time until now and is necessary to stay profitable and to keep a healthy business . I don’t want games and consoles to go away so I support the best company with money as that’s what they need to stay around. If I’m getting high quality exclusives frequently enough that 10$ is doing it’s job .

Juvia1072d ago

Well said. I couldn't agree more.

VivaLaManual1072d ago (Edited 1072d ago )

Guessing you are too young to remember game costs in the 80s and 90s. I paid over $100 in today's money for super Mario bros 3.

Exvalos1072d ago

Most of the launch games you can get below 69.99 used so no excuses

v_eno_m1072d ago (Edited 1072d ago )

https://www.youtube.com/wat... - The Prices MUST Rise - Gamings Greatest Lie

how many more devs have to lose their jobs when their parent company spits out the highest profits for that particular quarter, will people understand that the hike doesn't help the employees who aren't in upper management or better yet, a stock holder?

refusing the purchase any title for $70 at launch should speak volumes to the publisher....if you value the title at $70 and can afford it, more power to you. But don't shame the players who choses not to pay the full price and are willing to wait for the price to come down or purchase it 2nd hand.

where-eagles-dare1072d ago

If you use a bit of internet cunning & research, while taking advantage of discount offers you can knock a good few quid off. Like you, I find paying £70 a touch on the expensive side for my budget.

I pre ordered both Resident Evil Village along with Ratchet for a total of £94.81 with free delivery. So this works out at £47.40 per game. You need to know the cheaper UK game websites.

The Game Collection - Offer Games - Simply Games - Shopto - 365games - to name but a few sites ----- use whichever is offering the best deals etc at the best time and take advantage of which site is offering additional money off by way of - say a 10% off discount voucher code that you apply at checkout etc. Sometimes these sites offer money off if it's your first purchase, so if you already have an account, create a new one and take advantage. You also need to strike while the iron is hot & pre order at the right time, as the prices fluctuate on these sites.

Also bought Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Call of Duty - used copies - on Amazon for £38 each back in Jan & early Feb.

Resident Evil Village is utterly stunning on PS5. Terrific game. Really looking forward to Ratchet as I love the series.

philm871072d ago

I managed to get Demon Souls new and Cold War used for £35 each, and there was a great deal in Tesco so got Resident Evil Village for £35 new.

But the 'narrative" from people like Jason Schreier and Jeff Grubb said otherwise. Just further proof no one should be listening to haters like them. PlayStation will always invest in new IP and that isn't stopping anytime soon.

Army_of_Darkness1072d ago

You know what they say, haters hate for attention.... 🤔 or maybe it's just me saying it? Lol

Darkborn1072d ago

Theres no way I can trust Jeff Grubb. He praised crackdown 3 and said God of War was crap.

italiangamer1072d ago

The only thing Jeff Grubb needs to do is wash his goddamn hair!

JS and JG are bottom of the barrel when it comes to gaming news.

TGGJustin1072d ago

I mean go back 2 years and NO ONE knew who Jeff Grubb was. People only pay attention because he got some companies to leak some events to him early last year. Except Sony that is which is why he does nothing but hate on them.
