@ju... Miles, sackboy and Horizon are the known first party cross gen games, with more likely to be announced due to the shortage of PS5 systems into next year. That could mean Sony may want to recoup some of the costs of games by making them cross gen to spur sales to those who do not yet have the PS5.

3rd party ones are much more prevalent and will continue to be well into next year as well.

Yeah I'm a ps5 owner myseysbd I spend 90% of my gaming time playing PS4 games.

Have to admit I only own Spider-Man mm / remastered, borderlands 3, watch dogs legion (which sucked) and thps 1+2 (goty for me despite putting 100 off hours into the PS4 edition).

There has been some nice PS plus games though control was awesome and man eater was an unexpected fun game.

Some of the games I expected to play to play on it have suffered delays unfortunately like far cry 6

But it was the same last gen for a good year there wasn't a lot releasing and I had a PS4 a month after launch. About the two year mark however and i had no where near enough time to play everything.

@jukins - I simply said those were the 2 PS5 titles I have purchases since I got my PS5 Day 1. I wasn't implying it was exclusive, RE8 isn't next gen only.

Majority means that >50% of the PS5 library is also playable on the PS4. I used a simple math term.

Sony has provided many examples of what their systems can do over the years. By contrast, through they started off promisingly, MS has only shown a "exclusives don't matter" and may as well have said games. Like or dislike for these titles PS5 has: Demon Souls, Judgement Remaster, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank, FF7 R Intergrade, and Odd World Soul Storm. all with the exception of Judgement are exclusive games and while Odd world is cross gen in this same time frame Microsoft have not even put out a exclusive gross gen title. The Series only has The Medium to my knowledge. I'm not saying that I have a ton of PS5 games either but I still have more then actual exclusives for my Series X. Again this all goes back to how hard Microsoft pinned their launch window and beyond hopes on Halo Infinite. They knew the release calendar was slim but counted on the brand recognition to keep driving new sales past launch. Problem is that the console has been selling well but those of us who have it are starting to notice the lack of game releases that really show us what the investment is getting us.

I am trying to give a conservative estimate of what their respective lineups will look like going into the first holiday season in which they should both be widely available (at least I hope so). let's assume Microsoft releases both Halo and Starfield in November of this year. Xbox will have Scorn, The Medium, Halo, and Starfield. That would still give Sony a 2:1 ratio over Microsoft. Let's also not forget the very real argument that gamers who also own PCs can just get the handful of Xbox titles on their PCs.

At launch Demon Souls was exclusive, 4 months later Sony put out Oddworld (yes cross gen but still platform exclusive) a month later Returnal, next month Sony has Ratchet and Clank, FF7R:I, and Neptunia ReVerse. Thats 6 exclusive games in 6 months, are they all killer apps....maybe not to some but its still better then 1 which is all Microsoft has at the moment. Look I love my XSX but MS has a dev cycle problem and as much as they may be the "good guy of gaming" right now because of Backwards Compat, it does little to change the fact that their business practices over the gens have shut and closed some of their most talented acquisitions. Bet they wish they had Bizarre Creations, Beep Industries, Bungie, Artoon (not theirs but they left them to wither) making content right about now. Their long term acquisitions are mostly hollow logo shells of themselves now......Rare, Lion Head Studios have not put out a solid game in years.

It is one of the reasons yes, but i can guarantee you, every owner of a PS5, or a Series S|X, is still playing last-gen or cross-gen games. I do not see why you would buy a Series and then sit there waiting for a next-gen game, or buy a PS5, and play the 2-3 next-gen games released so far.

Yes, cause PlayStation had a ton of games. It had a remake(read:old game)a add on and tech demo. With Bethesda Xbox will have games. I am 100% an Xbox guy and I can find nothing wrong with what you are saying. At this point it just isn't worth it. Now as a rule, I always wait at least a year before upgrading, as usually in the first year developers really haven't figured out the new system yet and there are still many cross gen titles to choose from.

For me, personally, the same would apply to the PS5, though I think you can make a MUCH more effective argument about jumping in on that new system. Just my opinion.

I can appreciate what the Series offers in regards to making older games feel new. And the amount of modern titles that have received optimizations, to scratch the surface of what the Series line is capable of, has been impressive. I can't help think of what games will be like once they are no longer tethered to the previous systems. Sadly, we won't know for about another year or so.

It's a great console because it has fantastic hardware that plays existing titles much better than its predecessors alongside massive QoL improvement thanks to the SSD. "Next gen" exclusives are no longer the be all end all of next gen systems. They're much more in line with PCs. These consoles at launch support more games than anyone has time to play -- and that's before even talking about new releases!

If you're playing virtually any game right now on an Xbox One, you are getting a vastly inferior experience to what you could be getting. I'm running into a similar dilemma with my PS4 library. There are still titles I want to play, but I feel like I'll be doing a disservice to myself playing them now instead of waiting till I get my hands on a PS5.

The Series X has more power. Nice try though. Also there are exclusives coming this year. Medium is still only available on Xbox S/X, and it was very good.

Now the Mass Effect remaster is coming. It has 120fps mode on Series X and max of 60fps on PS5. Other games are starting to show Series X power advantages too. Offering 60fps on PS5 and 120fps for Series X. Series S, is a whole different story.

Both were dry bones for awhile. Late April is when the true shit began imo. It was just the usual assassins creed type shit you get every console launch.

There were a few standouts for me like immortals and planet coaster but the real shit is stating to hit now. Like returnal, re8, biomutant, mass effect. Returnal is the only one you need a ps5 for. Biomutant has been my number one hyped for 2 years. It sucks back 4 blood and deathloop got pushed back but I want them to be the best possible game so it’s cool.

I have both ps5, xbox sx and s (s for the kids) The only exclusive I've purchased on the PS5 was the amazing Ghost of Tushima (missed it on the pro because I sold it just prior to the games release before the resell price would fall) Game of the year IMO). $70 is a hard pill to stomach, not because I cant afford it but because I know publishers are making more than ever without it. Nearly brought Demon Souls but figured it will be the same experience if I buy it in 6mths. No other exclusives really appeals until Horizon FW (might give days gone a run with the better hardware now). So that leaves me with multiplat and most of those are back compat for me still so xbox has my time and gamepass has my money.

My point is I love PS. God of war and Horizon were my fav last gen games (along with Hunt Showdown) but being exclusive doesn't mean a game is guaranteed to cater to my taste. Returnal, DS and Miles are obviously quality. But if they are not my kind of game that means nothing to me.....build/maintain consumer confidence perhaps...definitely.

Xb has had a horrendous console exclusive problem, but to think people consider it possible that Bethesda, Arkane, ID are suddenly going to stop producing really good games because they are under MS is ridiculous. MS OG first party teams are going to improve significantly through collaboration here too.

Even with me playing next to no exclusives I've never had a console transition that feels more justified due to my library coming with me and playing better than ever. Let's be honest these consoles were never dropping in price any time before the big exclusive bangers drop anyway.

The fact Flight Sim hasn’t been ported is just lazy. Their company name is in the title of the game…they do know they made it, right? The fact they didn’t give Halo the support or attention it needed shows lack of leadership and just how out of touch they are. Xbox owes all of its past success to Bungie and now it is just a B-tier software game rental machine. I hope they put out must play games that makes me buy one, but that doesn’t look like it’s happening anytime soon. Zenimax deal will sadly just be used to leverage more Gamepass subs. This isn’t the type of gaming company I want to support, but to each their own.

Series X is a beast! There were a ton of old games that I purchased and never played. FPS boost and auto HDR or making a lot of these old games awesome. I bought Metro 2030 redux and last light redux years ago but never played them and I'm enjoying 120 frames per second. My playthrough looks much better than the videos I've watched of how it used to run.

Sony has a great launch games with Demon's Souls, Spider Man MM, Sack Boy, Astro Boy, Returnal and Now Ratched and Cranck while there are even more already announce games coming like Kenya, FF7 Remake and Horizon.

The thing is that this is not new, is the same situation that people have critiziced about Xbox since the end of the 360 era.

That's exactly it. The downplay by Xbox fans is insane. Look how many say there's not much exclusives for Playstation. Seriously Demon Souls, Astrobot, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank, Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade, then add crossgen Spiderman and Sackboy in 7 months and that's not good enough? That's laughable.

So let's replace those 7 titles in 7 months with say Forza, Halo, Ori, crossgen game like Flight Simulator, Gears 5 then add say Mass Effect as a exclusive in place of FF 7 Intergrade and say Battletoads. Wouldn't that be pretty amazing output in 7 months? I would say that is actually better than ANY year Xbox One was out for output..... but, since it's Playstation oh not 7 games mostly exclusives in 7 months is NOT good enough?!!! Okay there.

Just think about the output that Playstation is being critical of being 'not much and 'there's nothing to play. Then add in the upgraded PS4 games like Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone and ton of 3rd party PS4 exclusives playable on PS5 and apparently it's not much at all. Weird how many comments here just mention 60 fps and 120 fps upgrades? A bunch. Those same people then turn around are like this is better than stuff on Playstation?! Really?! 60 fps and 120 fps on old games matter, but, 60 fps on one of Playstations GOTY Ghost of Tsushima and crickets.

The same could be said for PS5? It had around 2 exclusives at launch? Missing quick resume, cold storage, expandable storage, still a lot of random crashes and issues with rest mode.

Zero games is obviously incorrect though, I doubt the console is sold out everywhere because people are rushing out to spend $500 on a console that has “zero games”. Are they using it as an ornament?

My opinion? They both should’ve been delayed a year. If they’d launched this November we would have more games for both, better stability and more OS features - and likely better stock.

Microsoft has lauched 6 consoles since 2013 Xbox One OG, XbO S, XBO X, Xbox Digital, Xbox Series S and Series X all with the same issue... No First Party games! I'm not sure they have a clue what their doing.

I feel very similar. I have an X and the console functions very well, but the only way I was able to justify the purchase is because I skipped the X-One generation. In fact, a friend of mine who has a One-X asked if I recommend the Series X and I felt the need to advise him to wait and see what is going to come out with in the future.

I have both the X and the PS5 and honestly the X feels like the the better, quieter, less buggy and more functional machine, but even skipping after skipping the last gen of Microsoft consoles I still get more play out of my PS5 because of the backlog of awesome exclusives that I still have from the PS4 era and the fact that I have Spider Man MM, Demon Souls, and recently The Returnal.

I went back and played some enhanced Halo games, Gears games and others via GamePass, but there is just more to do on my PS5.

I bought an Xbox Series X just for Gamepass. Gamepass is an absolute bargain. I play a ton of updated for Series X games.
When I had my old Xbox One do you actually think I bought every game for it that would eventually come to Gamepass. There's a ton of amazing games I missed.

Sony have done well with getting a few exclusives out the door, and the Series does need some games to showcase the power.

It shouldn't be a measuring contest, just a factual debate.

Does PS5 have more exclusives? Yes, even if they only released 1, they would have more, Xbox no longer has full exclusives, we have known this for years.

I am going to reserve judgement, once games are fully next-gen, and to be fair to Microsoft, they do have a lot of games in the pipeline, they just seem to be at least a year away.

The next AAA release we know of for Xbox one/Series, is Halo Infinite this November (barring any E3 announcements).

Bottom line is both consoles have their pro's and con's, and both will have great games for gamers to play.

I would add that MS and Sony have games in the pipeline. That being said MS has a history of this everyone knows it that is exactly why they purchased all of those studios. This reason alone makes it viable to have FP games. Regardless of what platform you favor MS not having those FP games should be an issue. When Halo drops I sure people will be a lot quieter but this is and has always been a point of debate. They need more flagship titles. I would argue that both MS and Nintendo (to a lesser degree Sony) of rehashing the same games just on an updated platform. Like Mario, Halo, etc. That gets old and while I can see why Nintendo is notorious for releasing Mario, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario grocery shopping, etc. MS does it but more like a drought. Forza and Halo and Gears and...well that's it really. I hope with the acquisition of these new studios they can bolster that FP lineup.

I agree, they stick to the 3 main hitters formula (to be fair i am a fan of all 3) and then they only have a handful of new games over the course of the generation, i am confident this generation is going to be different.

We already have a few signs, the xbox console is getting MS Flight Simulator and Age of Empires, a first on xbox.

A continuation of a franchise is ok and doable, as long as the series does not stagnate, Call of duty and Battlefield are some of the worst culprits, i do not think there will be another Gears of War, Forza will continue being Xbox's go to racing genre, and Halo has a large fanbase.

But i agree, all in all xbox needs more games, and i think the recent acquisitions are a testament that Phil is steering the ship in the right direction this gen.

Only time will tell.

The reply thing is weird here. Anyway yes agreed. I want flight simulator on my PC but I don't think I can handle it to me that is a good reason to own an X so hopefully, it releases on that platform. I like Halo and definitely want to see where the franchise goes. I am not that into racers so that includes GT as well as Forza. Gears idk have always been hit or miss with me. I've played some titles in the past. I am like you hoping that MS brings more games. Elderscrolls alone is a reason for me to get the X. I mean I'm sure it will be on PC so might just go with that instead-but if it did not then I'd get the X. Yes make no mistake they can continue a franchise but oversaturation to me makes the franchise weaker. Nintendo with their Zelda series. While I don't really like the last Zelda I like how they innovated it. I like how they innovated Mario Odyssey. I like how instead of making Killzone Guerilla switched over to Horizon. Exclusives are important and they are needed. MS needs this, gamepass is a great idea but that is not enough.

Why is the OP acting like PS5 has a ton of exclusives? Of the 3 games that are not cross-gen(Demons Souls, Returnal, and the upcoming Ratchet and Clank), one can make the argument that it was a stupid business decision to not make those games cross-gen or to even release them during a pandemic console shortage. Moreover, none of those are must-have titles. Plus the reality is most gamers still have a backlog of games from last gen.

Xbox Original was more powerful than the PS2, but it didn't showcase it's power, Xbox 360 had a developmental edge by having simplicity at the heart of development but it couldn't be showcased going up against the much more difficult to develop or PS3, Xbox One games were running at 720p so ehh, Xbox One X more powerful than the PS4 Pro couldn't showcase the power over the PS4 Pro exclusives... PS5 less powerful than Xbox Series X and still can't showcase the benefit of owning the console.... I really don't understand after 4 generations why people still buy this console. This is big facts right here. There is not a single XSX exclusive game and all the games on physical discs are just the XB1 version. The Medium is the only game since Launch that is Series only, I realize some of PS5 is multiplat but there are exclusive games out and coming very soon, also the optics for physical media (which clearly I favor) is that PS5 has all these games individually on it where as Xbox is just a moniker/sticker on an XB1 game box.
