The Coalition Moving to Next-Gen Development, Unreal Engine 5

"At The Coalition, we pride ourselves on delivering the best possible Gears of War games and the best possible game performance using cutting-edge tools like Unreal Engine. We wanted to update our fans on both of those things.

Thank you to all the fans out there who have been on this journey with us. During a worldwide pandemic and working from home, the team launched a first strategy title, Gears Tactics; re-launched Gears 5 and Tactics on Xbox Series X|S hardware with performance upgrades and features; revamped Gears 5 multiplayer with a ton of content and updates; and capped the year with the first mainline campaign expansion – Gears 5: Hivebusters – in almost a decade."

"Shifting to a new engine is a big undertaking, so we want to be clear that we will not be announcing any new projects or titles for some time."

Looks like we won't have to expect any games from The Coalition at E3.

AngelicIceDiamond37d ago

It's rumored they were developing a new game, possibly Star Wars related.

Either way don't expect anything from them come E3 though.

dinodash1101637d ago
Stop claiming they are working on a star wars game they had to come out and shut down Parris who been spreading that fake News

Zeref36d ago

It's confirmed not to be star wars, I would have loved to see them try a Mandolorian game but a new IP might be even better

DarXyde36d ago

You're literally reiterating exactly what Nyxus said - don't expect anything at E3.
I'm a little confused to why you threw that out there. Wasn't that debunked?

darthv7237d ago

no new games but they are still working on new content for Gears 5. So they may still have some stuff to show.

AngelicIceDiamond37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

"stop claiming" never claimed anything that was the first time I even made a comment on the rumor.

It's good to see it got shot down though. Could they be playing coy? Maybe either way glad they've been transparent with us on the matter.

Ausbo37d ago

Jeff grubb says they aren’t working on a Star Wars game but a new Ip alongside gears 6.

This is good news and bad news..

Good news is when they do release the game.. it'll likely meet next gen standards or even excel beyond it..

Bad news.. this being one of Xbox's biggest IP.. meaning no Gears (as a next gen exclusive) for the next couple years for Series X/S owners.. is still quite a blow.

"meaning no Gears (as a next gen exclusive) for the next couple years for Series X/S owners.. is still quite a blow."

And PC owners

NeoGamer23237d ago (Edited 37d ago )

Ya, I just don't know why some gamers can't wrap their head around MS does not make platform exclusives. It is an argument that only Sony fans bring up. They can't seem to move on that MS does not make platform exclusives anymore. The ship has sailed and left the dock and is half way across the ocean yet they sit there thinking the ship isn't even built yet.

And this is not a huge blow. MS has 23 studios now. Starting with Psychonauts 2 or Halo Infinite, I expect a steady stream of games afterwards. Forza Motorsports, Forza Horizon, Ever Wild, Hellblade 2, Avowed, State of Decay 3, Fable reboot, Starfield, Perfect Dark, Elder Scrolls 6, etc. are all announced titles coming. The question is not whether games are coming, it is more about sequence and when for games after.

While some gamers are stuck in the past, participating in a "console war". Most gamers have moved on. Even Sony ships games on PC now-a-days.... Horizon, Death Stranding, etc are examples of the ever increasing presence of Sony games on PC. Not to mention Days Gone is heading to PC on May 17th. The days of platform exclusive games are going the same way as dinosaurs. There is just too much presure on every game maker from a financial sense to justify only shipping a game on one platform in the coming future. You can't justify $100-200 million game budgets for just one platform.

I think it is good that we are probably another 3-5 years away from another Gears game. Would probably be a cool mid-generation console update launch title.

spicelicka37d ago

To be fair it has only been a year and a half since Gears 5, and Gears tactics came out just last year. There are usually at least 3 year gaps between such games crossing generations, no one expected a Gears announcement this year. This would have been a blow if MS was still relying on a few big first party franchises, but clearly that's not the case anymore as there are half a dozen new studios working on first party titles.

StoneyYoshi37d ago

"This would have been a blow if MS was still relying on a few big first party franchises, but clearly that's not the case anymore as there are half a dozen new studios working on first party titles."

I mean, they still kinda are. Halo is the prime example... The amount of hype they pushed with Halo Infinite is nothing like I've seen before with Xbox. They cant really rely on anything else that hasn't been proven to be a hit aside from the established franchises that Bethesda games has. Im still excited to see what the future holds for Xbox and their studios and hopefully they make some more franchises that I want to play.

DJStotty36d ago

Exactly, well should we say "no xbox gamers" expected a new gears/announcement this year lol.

GottaBjimmyb36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

@Stoneyoshi Right, definitely not like we know of (or released) Avowed, psychonauts 2, starfield, Perfect Dark, Everwild, Hellblade 2, Forza horizon 5, Outer worlds, Indiana jones, age of empires 4, state of decay 3, minecraft dungeons, among other I am probably missing and some not announced. How many games do they need for you to be satisfied that there is more than Halo?

DJStotty36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

"Bad news.. this being one of Xbox's biggest IP.. meaning no Gears (as a next gen exclusive) for the next couple years for Series X/S owners.. is still quite a blow."

Not really, we had a 3 year gap between Gears 4 and 5 (yes they do not get launched annually like everyone on here believes), so not having another game from the coalition for the next few years, will not really have any impact on xbox gamers at all, after all, they just aquired a good few studios to plug a 1 game gap.

And chances are, the Gears games are at an end, and the coalition will shift to a new IP. Also, with this news, we now know whichever game the coalition launches next, will not be on the xbox one :p

Zeref36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

I wouldn't say it's a blow at all, people need a break from Gears even the hardcore fans agree, in the meantime we got plenty of new exclusives to look forward to.

It needs a refresh like God of War did and it's not gonna happen if people keep comparing it to the older Gears games.

I hope they remaster Gears 2 and 3!!

moriarty188937d ago

they updated them with 4k visuals for the One X a while back.

spicelicka37d ago

That isn't the same as a remaster, I wanna play them with new graphics like Gears UE was. Also 4k doesn't do much if they're not 60 fps, hard to go back to 30 fps on old games.

StoneyYoshi37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

I don't really think Xbox is into doing remaster/remakes. Thats more of a Sony/Nintendo thing.

They do have the master chief collection but thats the exception because... ya know... It's Halo.

spicelicka37d ago

Hmm I don't think it has to be a "thing" really. If fans demand it then it's on the table. They already remastered Gears 1 so there's no reason to assume they couldn't remaster 2 and 3.

Chevalier37d ago

Really? Didn't they Remaster Gears 1 too?

StoneyYoshi36d ago

Ah my mistake. I forgot about Gears 1 Didn't that just happen last year?

Zeref36d ago

Unless it's a remaster with Gears 5 level graphics(A remake at that point), I don't want it.
