Eurogamer: "The Chronicles of Spellborn is at its weakest when it lapses into the familiar. Level-up dings replete with swirly animation and several minutes spent contemplating where to spend points. Courier quests. With a shoestring budget and no significant publishing muscle behind it, it's an MMO that can ill-afford comparisons to WOW and WAR. Fortunately, this sort of thing is relatively uncommon. It may be guilty of reaching back into established convention for support, but for the most part Spellborn strides out into unknown territory."

A Look Back at Year One of Chronicles of Spellborn

Initially there were issues with releasing the North American beta on the same day of European release, something that split the community and dulled the unveiling. Upon release of the game in North America, confusion almost immediately set in as to how to pay for the subscription.

Free for All: A Look into The Chronicles of Spellborn

Massively has always wondered what happened to one of their favorite free-to-play games, The Chronicles of Spellborn. It's still a great game, don't get them wrong, and is completely free to play. A new version is even supposed to come out at some point, essentially the same game but with a cash-shop that features different travel items and armors.

They asked five original team members for some insight, Coen Nessen (Lead Game Design), El Driver (Lead Game Design), Matthew Florianz (Audio Director), Michale Wolf Visser (Lead Quest and Content Designer) and Vincent Leeuw (Lead Content).

Spellborn Dropping Out of the Japanese Market

The somewhat European inspired fantasy MMO The Chronicles of Spellborn is shutting down its Japanese service, causing a stir of worry and discussion about the title's future in other territories within the community at large. To make matters worse, the one person who could've cleared up any confusion, TheHistorian, is no longer with publisher Acclaim as community manager for the game.
