The Increase In Game Price Has Left Me Skipping Games

The increase to game price this generation has directly led to me skipping games as they release and waiting for drops in price. - Rocket Chainsaw

If you happy to pay more, more fool you, as once £70 is standard then it’s £80 then it’s £90. There is no need for the increase sure budgets have increased last time I check so had profits being as they’ve just had one of their best 12 months ever pandemic has been very helpful and these big blockbusters games earn millions of not billions so maybe spend less on the PR and put the prices back down to where they should be. If Resi 8 an established big franchise and let’s face it looks like they’ve got a banger on their hands can release next generation version with lenticular sleeve DLC and have change from £50 then there’s not excuses. I’ll skip em day1 backlog will see me good for another couple years get the games months 3-6 much cheaper. It’s the same or very similar to switch people just try take the piss. Funnily enough Capcom we’re one of the worst trying £30/40 for resi4 whilst selling it everywhere else for £10/15 max. It’s new consoles they try it. They’ll soon knock it off if people didn’t blindly rush out and buy just because it’s the first major next gen release since launch.

ocelot071506d ago

If you pay for RRP for any games your a fool. RRP for games have always been fairly pricy expecially digital.

Its simple if $70 is a bit expensive for you or you don't feel like the game is worth $70 then simply don't buy it on release. Wait until it's on sale. Games drop in price rapidly. Look at the likes of Cyberpunk that can be had for like $25-$30 now.

Same with say Demon's souls or Sackboy Adventures if you have a look they can have had for $40-$50. If this is such a massive issue and a fair whack of the user base refuse to pay $70 then sooner rather than later they will lower the RRP of future games.

RosweeSon1506d ago

Ocelot agreed that’s why the only one I paid £65 for was miles day one came with a copy of Spider-Man remastered to keep platinum’d miles sold it on (I’ll wait for a free copy if I wanna play it again) but Nintendo day1 isn’t foolish. They don’t drop the price for years and the quality speaks for itself (look at the top 100 games ever who crops up a solid 30% of the list (Nintendo) GTA5 day1 sure that price is expensive now 7 years 3 gens and 100 million copies later but that price didn’t drop overnight and I’d more than got enough hours out of it for the money on the campaign alone before the prices dropped. You gotta support some devs if no one bought day1 it would be a major problem it’s just picking em wisely, or like you said voting with Wallet which I’ll be doing I’ll be getting the games launching at normal prices the others can wait unless it’s GTA6 that’s a day1 even at £80 levels of excellence are another level compared to a lot.

senorfartcushion1506d ago

This is a bad console fanboy website.

You cannot think of the gamer, you have to be on the side of the companies.

MadLad1506d ago

@ocelot

If $70 is ok, then eventually even more is ok. Hypothetically $60 could eventually be the "sale" price.
We're nowhere near that, but that's where that sort of logic can end up at.

LucasRuinedChildhood1506d ago (Edited 1506d ago )

@ocelot07

"Games drop in price rapidly."

A fair point if you're talking about third party games but none of the Sony launch games on PS5 have dropped in price where I live, at least digitally, and the price of the physical versions is usually very close to full digital price and sometimes more (looking at the prices on Amazon UK which is a huge vendor).

If Demon's Souls doesn't drop in price at all during the Summer Sale, Sony are officially trying to force people to get used to paying €80 because GOT and TLOU2 (much better selling games) had gone on sale at a 35% lower price by this point.

Returnal probably isn't going to drop in price for a long time, which is particularly bad for Europeans who have to pay €80. I might break for R&C: Rift Apart, but overall, this price increase is not justified and the intentional lack of sales is grueling.

oldenjon1506d ago

@RosweeSon You're just a cheap skate, stop pretending that there's anything more to it.

MIDGETonSTILTS171506d ago

Ffs I bet you don’t know how much Mario 64 cost years after launch. And now you can count the hairs and pores on your character.

It’s gross how people act like games make themselves. You get what you pay for in life.

itsmebryan1506d ago

This is why gamepass is such a great deal for gamers.

1506d ago
Kakashi Hatake1505d ago

Development costs more. What do you want developers to do. At least Playstation games will be cheaper after a few months. Mario Kart for Switch is still 60 bucks and is a port of a wii u game. Project your fake outrage elsewhere.

Extermin8or3_1505d ago

If you look at RRP in the UK you'd see it barely increased for almost 20 years. This increase just outs it ib line with inflation averages over the past decade.

Rachel_Alucard1505d ago

This strategy is part of larger strategy to get people to be more accepting with signing up for subscriptions in the future. Game pass is early right now. But you'll see Sony try to pull the same stunt and then both remove options when the following gen starts or something along those lines.

ocelot071505d ago

Anyone in the UK who don't like £70 RRP I understand. Don't get me wrong games like Returnal I won't pay £70 for as I simply don't know if it's the type of game I like. It's one I would rent or get once cheaper.

But games I know I'll play and enjoy like spider man and demon's souls or ratchet and clank £70 am ok with (well I never pay RRP). I still play both demon's souls and spider man 6 months after release demon's souls I have put at least 150 hours into so I have had my £60 worth already.

Anyone in the UK who in a PS5. I suggest maybe check out boomerang rentals. It's £10.99 a month and you can rent brand new releases including returnal. You can keep as long as your a subscriber. Personally i think this service is a better value than gamepass imo. As you are not locked to renting for one platform and can rent any new release not just what appears on gamepass.

Why because it is applies to the company you like? $70 sucks, I am in the same boat, it might change, but currently, I haven't bought a single game for $70, it just feels like too much. I am not going to say it is unjustified or that I will not buy any games, but it definitely has changed my mind on a few games, TBH.

I just don't get why so many on here excuse or deflect anything they see as negative about their favorite brand.

dumahim1505d ago

Because inflation is a real thing. Prices go up for everything over time, but I rarely ever see people whine about that. If anything, people should appreciate that prices didn't go up earlier.

1505d ago
neutralgamer19921506d ago (Edited 1506d ago )

Since this topic seems to be about Sony I think they are strategy is they are going to make big Blockbuster games and they are going to keep them at full price for as long as possible like Nintendo. As far as game prices itself goes from all publishers thing is you have to take inflation into account and game prices had stayed the same for two generations. But we also must take into account the game prices are not the same everywhere and some countries some gamers end up paying a lot more than us in the USA

The best thing I can tell you is wait for sales and usually I buy most of my games towards the end of the year when we have the holiday sales. Most of us have humongous backlogs so I think we should try to finish some of those games and wait for the price to drop. But the other issue is with physical media not as big as digital that some of these physical games go out of print much faster now so if you want a physical copy of retail price or close to it you have a choice to either pay now or pay more in second-hand market

It's just not the development cost these publishers have gone crazy with PR marketing just look at GTA v that had 250 million budget and have if not close to half of it going towards advertisement think about that. But publishers started to include that price in development and say that's how much the game cost

Everyone who is for the price increase or against it just keep one thing in mind those defending it now may regret it later then with the next generation of consoles the price goes to 80 and every generation it goes up 5 to 10 dollars. I know gaming industries in a really healthy place and I think the only thing that can really kind of bring everything back to normalcy is a crash of some sort of the gaming market

When Sony tried to shut down the PS3 market look at the second hand market prices for those games. They skyrocketed and they're still the same because people are scared that's Sony will shut down PSN sooner rather than later on PS3 and vita

Let's also not forget Microsoft try to double the price of a services so that is still coming just because they delayed it doesn't mean it's not happening. All these companies are looking out for profits no matter how we look at it if it was up to them they would charge a premium for everything

kayoss1505d ago

Fun fact: Back in 1983 when Kung fu was released for the NES, it retailed for $40 dollars. Kung Fu could be beaten easily under 20 minutes.
I know that games are getting expensive but thats the fact of life and inflation. Food is getting more expensive, would you stop eating food? You guys talk but you guys dont account for inflation which is the natural orders of things. Like other mentioned, wait for the game to go on sale and buy. But if you really really want to play the game early, ask yourself, "is it worth it?". If the answer is, "yes" then the game is worth $70. If not, then wait. Thats the sacrifice you have to take if you want to buy games cheaper. Its an expensive hobby.

MadLad1505d ago

Let's be realistic about things. Not to knock on the game or the developer, they're both great, but Housemarque is a small developer who, up into this point, were making games on the indie level.
Even Returner comes off a AA experience, as quality a one as it is. There also wasn't a giant marketing campaign behind it. Mostly online, and covered by games press.
Do you really think this game was so expensive to make that they just had to charge that extra $10 to make the profits needed?

The first signs of the price hike came in the form of sports titles that are some of the best sellers every year, make insane amounts of money in microtransactions and dlc, and are typically little more than glorified roster updates .... yet they're just "so expensive to make" that they need to raise the cost of their titles.
That should tell you everything.

AngelicIceDiamond1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

"Food is getting more expensive, would you stop eating food?"

Horrible comparison. You need food and water regardless. I mean, if you planning on living that is. At the grocery, people see their bill, roll their eyes and move on. You see a video game being 74$ with tax you can skip on it entirely and wait for the price to drop. In which let me remind you, devs and publishers want you to pay for that full 60 or 70$ games. Work, compensation and even bonuses if the game hits a sales milestone. Waiting for price job devs and pubs hardly see that return. Lay offs, job loss etc.

70$ needs to be justified and it can but it depends on if devs deliver a true 70$ next gen experience. Blaming it on inflation is just saying the price is going up, "just because" isnt good enough for video games.

AirJohnston1505d ago

How's that corporate boot taste?

King_Noctis1505d ago

You’re finding the $70 pricetag non-issue for all games releasing forward?

blackblades1505d ago

Lol all I said was "ok, moving on" never said anything about liking the $70 but of course the internet and the people on it dog piling as usual. As I mention on here many times I'm cheapass gamer. I never pay for any game above $30 its usually $20 and below. Only rare occasions which I did pay full price once or collectors which was $40.

blackblades1505d ago

For your answer I have no issue cause I'm buying it at a price of my liking as I can wait. For it being at $70 they have a reason. Games aint cheap to make so I understand the raise in. Sony exclusive seems to be worth it, they dont have the bull that comes with 3rd party game which everyone hates. Also look at all the fun everyone is having with the game that right there should be the knocking on the head of this game being worth it. All in all the people thats thirsty for something new to play and have the money they gonna buy it at $70 if you dont wanna spend an extra $10 then wait awhile it go down over time to what price you can work with.

dmonee1505d ago

Lol I was just going to write “do What you gotta do!”

1505d ago
Orbilator1505d ago

If you can't afford to game then you shouldn't be doing it. Simple as that. And don't buy your kid a ps5/series x and complain about having to buy games. Bet most people spend more than a game value on one night out. Or on your weekly nicotine habbit. If you can't afford it don't do it. simple

TheEroica1505d ago

Let's face it... No one NEEDS to pay premium. Games are not in shortage in any way shape or form... Some of our backlogs of 200 games deep. There is no value in premium priced gaming when the hobby is flooded with content.

blackblades1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

Dude look at my comment a little bit upwards. Y'all just skipping and mad just let it all out.

TheEroica1505d ago

Nah.. I make great money, but I no longer prioritize day 1 in this hobby. It's almost always better to buy games on the cheap.... Value wins

nothing happened in my area, games are still regular price on stores. on ps store they did increase prices though, but who cares about that.

porkChop1507d ago (Edited 1507d ago )

Games have gone up here in Canada. I was already skipping a lot of games to wait for sales or GOTY editions. Games are now $90 CAD, that's $101 after tax. I'm waiting for sales on almost everything from now on, or just skipping games entirely.

RosweeSon1506d ago

Yeah certain games certainly within literally 1 month can be half the price. Fifa assassins creed even cod normally has 20/30% off within a matter of months. Backlog is big enough and quality enough to not make me need to rush out day1 for £70. If we were talking GTA6 shiii can take £80 it’s a guaranteed banger but new IP’s and untested games with no demos for £70 a pop. Good luck.

pecorre1506d ago

I am also in Canada and I have not bought a full priced game in years. Now, I wait for the inevitable price drop. I end up skipping a lot of games because I lose interest in some of them when better games comes out. I used to buy a lot more games and spend a lot more money on gaming. Instead of making more money with the price increase, they only lost money with me.

Teflon021506d ago

Yup start of PS4 it was $60 by the end of it, it became 80. Was 67 after tax to 90 after tax, now it's 101. I kinda laugh at US people crying about a $10 increase when he had $20 within the same gen and it wasn't even Sony games that started it.

Further I never understand why everyone has eyes on Sony for this when it's not only them. But no one's down Nintendo's throats for BotW and MK8D being full price games in 2021. At least Sony drops prices, the initial price isn't even that being of a deal when you can just wait a year and get it way less, unlike Nintendo who didn't even put MK8 on sale for Mario day lmao. People need to focus on the right issues. This one ain't it for Americans. In EU I understand because they never had consistent prices to begin with so some games see ridiculous increases

northpaws1506d ago

I don't get It, so were you just picking up games day one no problem when it was $10 cheaper? You are not paying $101 more than before, you are paying $10 (+ tax) more, you know that right? so for the cost to pick up 10 games day one before, you can still pick up 9 games day one now.

If you didn't even pick up the games day one before, then I don't see what are there to complain about, as the price would still drop after a while, nothing has changed there.

Wouldn't blame you, with Microsoft Sony posting billions in profit and sales...trying to stiff us out of an extra tenner, its just not right.

Shiken1506d ago

At least MS gave us gamepass. I have saved so much money with that, I still have more in my pocket even when I do have to pay full price for a new game.

NeoGamer2321506d ago

I save a lot with PSNow on PS. Essentially, the same service now, they just don't get day one titles.

1506d ago
Silly gameAr1505d ago

Thanks for the Gamepass ad. Recently, wasn't there numbers that said that the PS4 had the highest game sales of any console in history? You think Sony needs gamepass? I guess time will tell.

AirJohnston1505d ago

Not having day one titles vs having day one titles is a way bigger difference than you make it seem lol

KeyAppearance1505d ago

Gamepass is a godsend, honestly makes waiting for games so much easier, by the time I am done with the backlog, the game's that aren't on it are usually cheap.

Just last month I have played like Octopath, Battlefield V (mainly wanted to try out the war stories), Doom Eternal and got to try out Squadrons.

It is great for introducing you to games you won't usually play either like Octopath, I have always had an aversion to turn based games, but this is so good, and is getting so much of my time.

Then lots of old stuff I get to play as well like Jade Empire, Dragon Age (also another I would have never tried otherwise but loved it)

I think Returnal looks amazing without a doubt and I really want to play it, but its funny when people start pulling stats to counter the argument as what I just said isn't a good deal at all.

Silly gameAr1505d ago

@AirJohnston

Well, not everyone wants to waste money getting day one games on a sub service. Some people would rather carry their own weight, then toss money at a problem, and gimp the industry.

Shiken1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

@Silly

So spending less money to play a game day 1 if they don't care about owning THAT particular game or buying at the GP discount for ownership...is...wasting money?

Well at least you are true to your name!

MadLad1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

@neo

I got a PS4 Pro late in the game. I grabbed one on the cheap for $130 about 2 years ago. There was around 10 games I actually wanted to play via the Now service.
The exclusives they actually had on there would have cost me only a little more than a year of now, and I'd actually own them. There's so much shovelware on there. It's like going to a used game shop, looking for Wii games.

Zeref1505d ago

@sillygamer

Sony doesn't need GamePass to sell games. Gamers need it to play more games.

Rude-ro1505d ago

😂😂 these stupid gamepass posts..derp I only spend next to $200 a year to play games derp.
And the quality of those games? Questionable.
I get the point of this, and many to come articles, is to push subscriptions...
But
Quality of output dictates price.

The majority of developers offer cheap.

It is time, because prices are going up regardless, to ask yourself who is worth the investment.

We can bang on our chests for cheap, and cheap is out there, and you will get cheap...

Or you can begin to realize who is worth your money.

Example.. cars.
Car prices go up.
Cars are a luxury item.
Some cars have subscription services.(leases)
A lot of your car manufactures follow the same prices but offer cheaper products. See your Chevy, Ford etc.

N4g likes to “group” gaming as a whole for narratives sake..

But the price hikes are only riding a few coattails of actual quality products.

If you “feel” like you are getting robbed by the price, look at the product.

All prices come down. Crying about day one prices is on you.
It is called self entitled and you feel like the world should revolve around you.

Will higher prices hurt gaming? Yes. 100%... but the reason why is lost on you/us as consumers.

Go back to even last gen when Microsoft asked for $60 for that joke of a game called crackdown 3...
Not even close being worth the value.
^ this is what makes you feel like you are getting robbed in gaming.

Shiken1505d ago

@Rude

Since November, I have played Fallen Order, Gears 5 plus its expansion, Nier Automata, Hellblade, and MLB The Show 21. That is just a handfull of games that I have played that equal over 200 bucks in value, having only paid 60 dollars total. Throw in that my son uses my sub for his XBox as well, the value doubles. If you think those games I mentioned are of "questionable" quality, then I don't think you know what quality is my guy.

The way some of you haters try to downplay is truly pathetic.

CDbiggen1505d ago

I don't even think it's an extra tenner, some of the exclusive PS5 games have been going for £70, even on Amazon where it's usually cheapest. That's a bump up from the standard £50. Like we skipped a gen price increase all together.

if only you have channeled the same amount of hatred energy towards those buying into MT. that's the real cancer of gaming.

I'm not a fan of this $70 price. but I also know that games go down in price over time. I'm not gonna miss the games I like just because they sell it for $70. I'll just wait for them to go down in price.

mkis0071505d ago

"It's used over and over again until $40 later you're wondering how the heck your games got so expensive."

Games have gone up by $20 in the past 20 years...Now how much more money does it take to make them now? it's a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things. It's a hobby and not a necessity. I'll take higher priced games if I get the as many hits as PlayStation puts out. I want bigger and better, it takes money and incentive for that to happen.

You people need to drop the console fanboyism thing now, it’s really embarrassing. It’s like you have no life or something. What makes you feel the need to support a plastic games machine made by a billion dollar company trying to rip you off so badly?

They live to make people like you unhappy, but it’s like you’re trying to marry them.

Genuine question. Why?

1506d ago
annoyedgamer1506d ago

This is N4G man, alot of these people live to fanboy brands and Sony is one of them. I have met some of these types in real life, its pretty sad. They used to be huge JRPG fans, but once sony left Japan and came to California..they no longer like Japanese games and consider them to be degenerate.

I used to be a huge Xbox fan when Microsoft made cool stuff for the fans, but now they dont care about me, so I no longer care about them. Im going full PC from now on. You wont find me trying to excuse Microsoft bad decisions.

Mr Logic1505d ago

Maybe you're overthinking it. My options are
A) Buy Returnal at $70 today and play now.
or
B) Wait and buy for cheaper later.

I don't have any other options. So if I choose to buy at $70 I'm not suddenly worshipping a corporation, I just realize that waiting 2-3 months to save $10-30 really doesn't mean all that much to me when on a Friday night I'll easily spend upwards of that on dinner for 2 people and that's fleeting compared to a 30+ hour game.

AirJohnston1505d ago

@Mr Logic he's not saying people are fanboying for being willing to pay full price. He's saying all that at the people in these comments that are acting like criticizing Sony and these companies are crazy or are overreacting

Silly gameAr1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

You heard of fake woke? Fake neutral should be a thing. And, I'm not sure how your comment moved, but I'm not surprised it did.

Well played, Senor.

When you are considered to be a fanboy for supporting a company that has bought us games for 5 gens, but praise the company trying to buy up everything, and make a quick sub buck? Then you know the game is F'ed up.

If sony wanted money, the PS5 would be 700 dollars. PS plus would be 90. PSNow would be...as much as Gamepass will be in the future. I hear a lot of moaning, but everything was cool when we were getting the best games out for a small fee of 50 bucks a f'ing year with PSplus.

Even now, PS plus, which SONY started, the company that wants ALLLLLLL your money, gets shit on if the wrong AAA games are offered, is compared to GWG, which is always weak af, and only started to compete with plus. So, I ask. Is it sony losing touch, or us that have loved this hobby for years, finding stupid ass reasons to crap on it?

I’ll be skipping ratchet also, handy I’ve literally just played the other one for first time ever, brilliant game got the platinum but I can wait for couple months easy. £65 just doesn’t sell it for me. £50/55 is more than enough it’s pure greed. It’s not as bad if we’re talking one of single player or that’s the whole game but when you think majority of games then have dlc, season passes of Microtransactions that soon racks up. Backlog has more than enough quality for me. Otherwise there’s Resi8 and was gonna get death loop as that was also £47/48 so why others think £70 is fine off the back of the year we as humans just had, yet they’ve just had some of their best months ever, pure greed. It’s not about being poor although I can understand for some this is just a past time. I love my games I play all the time in between work and what not but just not paying crazy money for unknown games. When I know within months the premium price will drop I’ll end up with double the amount of games for my money for shopping wisely and not blindly buying day1 because it’s the big game out for the new system 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣 astrobot done me haha ps+ Has been fantastic (shame about this month but 🥴🤷🏻‍♂️ 🤣) I’ll stick with the reasonably priced games or even better bonus ones with ps+ they’ve been decent enough to save me paying £70 to see them back down to nearer £50 within 3 months max. It’s called being savvy with your money not just paying the premium prices day1 was happy to do it with the console it’s been used non stop since purchase.

Father__Merrin1506d ago

Google the ratchet shopping pages its ranging from £55 £59.99 £62 with top what being £69.99

After a month or so this will come down further. Don't be surprised buying ratchet new for £44.99 after a month

RosweeSon1505d ago

Hence I’m not getting day1 I can wait a month and save £20. My argument is if Nintendo doing theirs for £39.99 majority and I get they aren’t graphically on par with Ps5 but Ps5 nearly double that, games are still launching for normal prices this is just a new launch premium . They won’t drop any major major games until they sold 15/20 million consoles as they’ll wanna be trying to break tho day1 records and they won’t if no one owns the console… and or they continue with this £70 shiii 😏😜✌🏻Li terally cheapest I can find ratchet currently is £64,99 Amazon want £69.99 GAME Want the same but another £5 to post it so £74.99 😑🤣 after a month they’ll be wanting to get rid of excess stock for the next big game and normally find a 10% off code to use on top of that. 🙌🏻😜 £45/50 is fine £60 a push. £70 is starting to take the 💩 😏😜✌🏻

Vizigoth041506d ago

I bet you still pay for gas as it’s price goes up. You’re either a fan of driving or you’re not.

I’m a fan of what Sony puts out. If I wasn’t I would by their games. Simple.

1506d ago
RosweeSon1505d ago

I’m a massive fan of Sony and Nintendo hence I got the PS4/5 day1 and the GameCube/wii/WiiU/3DS Switch day one. Doesn’t mean I’ll buy any old shiii they put out certainly not for the first year or so as it’s mostly pretty average and overpriced on launch it’s just cool as it’s new uses dual sense etc is it actually an amazing game in the long run no. Just because you are a fan of something doesn’t mean need to buy everything they do. Animal crossing party plaza or whatever it was called 😏😑🥴 28169;😜

If you can afford it more power to you. But alot of ppl are turned away by the $70 tag ( Sony as a company should fix this, because it will cost them sales and customers )

senorfartcushion1504d ago (Edited 1504d ago )

You’re doing it right 😊

Not that you need me to tell you that, obviously.

Housemarque Reveals It Has No Plans For Live Service Or Free-To-Play Title

Ilari Kuittinen and Gregory Louden of Returnal developer Housemarque have revealed during an interview with Eurogamer at the studio’s 30th anniversary event last week that it has no plans to develop live-service or free-to-play games, “as long as people are buying premium games.”

kpgs23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Why would they change? That's not where their expertise is.

Redgrave23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Didn't stop Sony after acquiring Bluepoint, taking them from renowned remaster and remake quality and sticking them on a GoW live service title that never even went anywhere.

I can't speak to what gives Housemarque the ability to be different, but let's be thankful that they are able to do so in wake of current Sony.

Cellblock1123d ago

Well whats different about Housemarque which Sony also owns that they can tell Sony what they will and wont do but the others couldn't?

derek23d ago

That GoW live service game was the dumbest idea ever. I thought they were remaking Bloodbourne or a Demons souls expansion (covering that broken arch stone). Sony was really panicked after that abk/Microsoft news hit. I hope it was a side project for Bluepoint and that there's another one in the pipeline. That GoW game apparently never got off the ground.

Blaming Sony for pursuing Live Service when the top 5 games every month by spend and engagement are live service games is illogical. Gamers are telling Sony where to invest so there is a real disconnect between what is said online and what people actually play. Who should Sony listen to? Clearly the logical decision is to listen to people actually playing games and whether we like it or not Sony would be in vioulation of it duty to its investors if it didn't try to pursue LS. People taking out their fustrations on Live Service games by attacking Sony and using it as the industry whipping boy does not fix the industry. You are just telling the rest of the industry that they can keep doing what they are doing because they aren't called Sony. All I hear people say is that they hate live service but every single month the top games are live service. You are all either lying or you don't know what you are talking about. Sony should pursue both SP and live service games.

jjb198140d ago

Housemarque: "Returnal PS5 Pro Enhanced Patch is Out Now! Featuring up to 2.5X the pixels on PS5 Pro for a higher resolution experience of Returnal."

Crazyglues45d ago

Wow this is amazing, I was just replaying this game on Ps5 and loving it again, and now a patch for the Pro... Amazing... Can't wait to check it out on the Pro now...

This game needs a part 2 so bad... One of my favorite Ps5 true nex gen games... Love HourseMarque for this...

IF you have not played this do yourself a favor and get it, it's a hell of a game, tough but super fun to play.
-Love this Game

garos8245d ago

it remains my favourite PS5 exlusive till date. severely underrated

RaiderNation45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

It's also still the only new first party IP released this generation on PS5. Everything else has either been sequels or remakes/remasters.

RaiderNation45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

To those who disagree, please let me know what other new IP Sony has released this generation besides Returnal. Go ahead, I'll wait. And Concord doesn't count because Sony recalled it.

RaiderNation45d ago

@Knushwood Butt

Lmao! You're seriously counting Concord? A game Sony pulled off the shelves and refunded gamers after what, two weeks? That is weak!

VersusDMC45d ago

@RaiderNation

For New IP Sony published Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade and Lost Soul Aside on the third party end.

Fairgames, Saros and Intergalactic are the next new IP for first Party.

But does anyone even care about new IP? People love Valve and Nintendo but Valve doesn't even make games anymore and Nintendo doesn't make New IP that often.

StormSnooper45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

It’s a great game.

@raider
But we have had more exclusives than the competition (do they even have any anymore?), and some of those are 2nd party exclusives such as Stellar Blade, Rise of Ronin, Final Fantasy Rebirth, Quantum Error, Neptunia ReVerse, Shines Over: The Damned, etc.

Then we have the first party exclusives such as: Astro Bot, Astro's Playroom (Free with PS5), Demon's Souls (yeah it’s remake but feels like a new game to me), Destruction AllStars (Free with PS Plus), Spider-Man 2, etc.

Then, there is VR games on PSVR2.

I want to try out the patch, I want to complete the game - but I can't because I can't get past the first world. And before you jump to tell me to 'get good' I tried and I couldn't!

Knushwood Butt44d ago

Venom

Did you get as far as the first boss?

Storm2344d ago

@Venom Do you play on PS5? I would play co-op with you. Or a friend could play co-op with you. I have beaten the game a few times (been a while) and have played a lot of the Tower dlc. A friend could help you complete it.

It’s a great game but why does this comment sound so much like it was AI written…. They’re among us!

Stwert44d ago

I have to agree with some of the comments regarding new IP in the PS5 generation, it has been woefully lacking to say the least. Even worse when you consider the excellent games we got in basically every other PlayStation generation.

On the bright side, Sony has finally noticed, publicly admitted and resolved to rectify the situation. Right now I can think of at least half a dozen new IP in development for PlayStation 5, the only downside is that none of them are near ready for release. So we’ve still got a fair wait.

But you know what they say, good things come to those who wait. I’ve a ridiculous backlog of games to keep me going for quite some time across four platforms. So I’ll wait (im)patiently.

Abear2144d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Stellar blade and Returnal plus GT7 is greater than any “exclusives” trio on any other console. Pro upgrades have been gravy as most of us normie gamers enjoy third party releases too.

I’ll say it again, GTA6 is coming and, like most other games (included those ported from other consoles), Pro will be the best version unless you sit at a desk on PC to play. Oh wait, PC version coming in 6 months to a year, don’t hold your breath.

One of the best games this gen

Elda45d ago

I've got to try some Returnal again on my PS5 Pro, it's one of my favorite games this generation.

Luc2045d ago

That's great news! Because of the coop mode I was able to beat some bosses. Gonna play more after the update
