Why Subnautica Is Such a Terrifying Experience

KeenGamer: "Subnautica is terrifying, yet it’s not marketed as a horror game. So why then does the game invoke such terror in so many players, making it hard to play? From its environments, to its approach to suspense, here is why Subnautica is one of the most frightening games to play."

Love my horror games and I’ve played all the best ones over the years but none kept my on edge like this game did, alien isolation comes closest but even that wasn’t as nerve wrecking as you know what’s going to be coming after you.

I’ve always hated deep dark water so that definitely adds to the fear factor here. The risk of getting lost and running out of air, food or water keeps you on edge but it’s what’s lurking in the unknown that really made me anxious.

I downloaded this game expecting it to be a peaceful underwater exploration game, the first time I discovered what else was lurking on the planet I actually jumped and screamed a little 😂 no shame in admitting that as no other horror game or movie ever had that effect on me.

Performance is awful on consoles and not perfect on PC either but the world and story was interesting enough for me to over look this.
Below Zero is one of the few games I have to look forward towards this year and I can’t wait for it to launch next month. PlayStation users should check this out while it’s still free, gamepass members also have access on console or Pc

i just finished it yesterday and have to say i didn't find it scary at all.....not really any jump scares like until dawn - and the atmosphere you could see everything before it gets to you....the forest game, in the caves i would rate fear factor quite high - not subnautica

An Update About the Next Subnautica

Donya: "Hello Subnauts, A few of you noticed some information shared online by our publisher, KRAFTON 🕵 While some of the news is exciting, we’d like to clarify:
- Early Access is not intended for release in 2024, but we plan to share a lot more information later this year!
- In reference to “Games-as-a-Service,” we simply plan to continually update the game for many years to come, just like the previous two Subnautica games. Think our Early Access update model, expanded. No season passes. No battle passes. No subscription.
- The game is not multiplayer-focused. Co-op will be an entirely optional way to play the game. You’ll be able to enjoy the game as a single-player."

Subnautica 3? Where is 2? The standalone DLC surely doesn't count as a full sequel.

Sims has competition finally.

Is there an actual story? Literally curious

BrainSyphoned203d ago

You have two lines of progress in the game. One of survival progression and one about the who/what/why the events happened and what to do about them. It does have an ending and lore.
