Good week for the switch. At this point we are just seeing Sony and Microsoft sell whatever they can produce in that window, so not really true/comparable numbers yet until supply outstrips demand.

Once all the manufacturing issues are gone, it will be interesting to see how the new consoles really stack up against the Switch.

Nyxus1099d ago

I have a feeling that if there were no supply issues, the gap between PS5 and XBX would be even bigger.

Orchard1099d ago

Maybe, who knows. But I am interested to see if they would overtake switch without production limits.

senorfartcushion1099d ago

Switch is mostly a handheld, though

DarkZane1099d ago

@Orchard the PS5 would easily do it without any problems. The Xbox Series S/X, probably not.

Babadook71099d ago (Edited 1099d ago )

PS5 more than 2x XS. PS5 is still supply constrained, where as XSX slowing down probably due to supply nearly equal to demand. That was inevitable when there are no great exclusives and no noticeable power advantage.

SullysCigar1099d ago

PS5 would be outselling both of Xbox's new consoles by a greater margin if there were no supply issues.

How do I know for certain? I don't. I'm only 99.9% sure, because it's bloody obvious lol

gravedigger1099d ago

That's awesome to see how Nintendo and Sony are demolishing Xbox.

septemberindecember1099d ago (Edited 1099d ago )

@DarkZane

People say that it would easily do this, but even the PS4 never had a year that sold over 20M, yet last year Switch sold 28M and is looking to mimic that this year.

I don't think the PS5 would overtake that easily. Consoles typically take a bit to hit their peak even after stock is accounted for.

CaptainHenry9161098d ago (Edited 1098d ago )

It's not even a maybe. That gap would definitely get bigger.

S2Killinit1098d ago

I think PS5 will only increase the gap as supplies increase and more exclusives keep on coming.

I feel like one week it is VGchartz is not a reliable source and the articles are removed, the next it is top trending. lol

That said, these numbers are no surprise, let's be honest, the switch sales are honestly probably the most surprising thing.

Father__Merrin1099d ago

Switch is a handheld/toy class unit I doubt ps5 or series SX will top switch weekly

King_Noctis1098d ago

I know you’re just trolling, but people can easily dock the Switch and make it a home console permanently if they wanted to. This is why the system is called hybrid console.

Neonridr1098d ago

toy class unit..

I've never heard so much straw pulling as I have reading the excuses for the Switch here on N4G.

It's a video game console, it plays video games. Is a laptop not a computer because you can take it with you?

roadkillers1099d ago

Well, we have to take into account the supply issues that the Switch is experiencing too. If you look on Facebook Marketplace used Switches are selling for $300. Everything is constrained at the moment.

jukins1098d ago

Lol theres no switch supply constraint. I can pick up several models lite and regular picked up curbside tomorrow walmart best buy and target....

jznrpg1098d ago

There is no supply constraint for old NVidia shield chips . Come on . It’s new chips that are supply constrained

roadkillers1098d ago

100% constraints. I have seen a couple of lites, but it is harder to find than it should be. I sold my Switch last month at retail pricing. That's not a thing one there is stock.

Flewid6381099d ago

I mean there are more kids than adults. Different markets.

Some overlap?....sure. But still different markets.

NotoriousWhiz1098d ago (Edited 1098d ago )

I know more adults with a Switch than a kid. I also know a child that recently got an Xbox one as a birthday gift.... Poor kid.

MADGameR1098d ago

The Switch doesn't count as a new console. It's last gen bro move on. The PS4 won the 8th gen period.

King_Noctis1098d ago (Edited 1098d ago )

If the Switch is last gen then shouldn’t it be continuously compared to last gen console then? Therefore based on your logic, the PS4 hasn’t won anything yet because Nintendo hasn’t discontinued the Switch yet.

I bought my PS5 on April 15th so it will be in the next report. I received it just the other day (4/20 yeah!!!). Astro is a blast to play.

senorfartcushion1099d ago

It’s so fun to compete. They need a lore-heavy game next time and a ps5 special at the end of the lifecycle

Darkborn1099d ago (Edited 1099d ago )

Astros playroom seriously felt like one of the best games I have ever played. I felt like a kid again and all the random Easter eggs sprinkled throughout were amazing. I couldn't stop grinning.

RauLeCreuset1099d ago

Have you played the PSVR Astro title?

VersusDMC1099d ago

Can you play it without the VR head set?

SullysCigar1099d ago

That game is in my top 5 games of the generation. It's an absolute joy from start to finish!

RauLeCreuset1099d ago (Edited 1099d ago )

@VersusDMC

No and no. I phrased it that way because the simple answer is "no," but also because it wouldn't be possible outside of VR. VR is integral to the game's mechanics. That's something I wouldn't have thought prior to playing it. I would have scoffed at the notion of a need for a 3rd person platformer in VR.

Edit: @Sully It's a gem!

septemberindecember1099d ago (Edited 1099d ago )

@RauLeCreuset

Idk about impossible. I own it and got the platinum trophy for it. I think there are definitely ways they could adjust it to be in 2D and non VR, but it'd require the perspective be changed in a lot of places. Also they'd have to add a reticule for some of the shooting sections and the ability to go into first person view in order to find the chameleons.

Overall it wouldn't be as good though. Game was incredible in VR.

RauLeCreuset1099d ago

@september

I platinumed it too. It's not only the perspective but the ability to control the camera with the movement of your head while simultaneously controlling Astro. Trying to adapt it to 2D would break the game.

Muzikguy1098d ago

The polish that Astro's Playroom has really has me enjoying it. For just an added little feature to showcase the controller it really is great. I'd like them to make a larger Astro platformer

At this point I'm waiting for store stock before buying a PS5. Between the scalpers and the people camping the site(s) 24/7 I'll clean out my back log in the mean time.
