Switch Sells 455K, PS5 Sells 200K, XS Sells 98K - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for Apr 4-11

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console with 455,251 units sold for the week ending April 10, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch has now sold an estimated 83.38 million units lifetime.

The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 199,634 units to bring its lifetime sales to 7.30 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 98,248 units to bring their lifetime sales to 4.53 million units.

Good week for the switch. At this point we are just seeing Sony and Microsoft sell whatever they can produce in that window, so not really true/comparable numbers yet until supply outstrips demand.

Once all the manufacturing issues are gone, it will be interesting to see how the new consoles really stack up against the Switch.

I have a feeling that if there were no supply issues, the gap between PS5 and XBX would be even bigger.

PS5 more than 2x XS. PS5 is still supply constrained, where as XSX slowing down probably due to supply nearly equal to demand. That was inevitable when there are no great exclusives and no noticeable power advantage.

People say that it would easily do this, but even the PS4 never had a year that sold over 20M, yet last year Switch sold 28M and is looking to mimic that this year.

I don't think the PS5 would overtake that easily. Consoles typically take a bit to hit their peak even after stock is accounted for.

Well, we have to take into account the supply issues that the Switch is experiencing too. If you look on Facebook Marketplace used Switches are selling for $300. Everything is constrained at the moment.

I bought my PS5 on April 15th so it will be in the next report. I received it just the other day (4/20 yeah!!!). Astro is a blast to play.

Astros playroom seriously felt like one of the best games I have ever played. I felt like a kid again and all the random Easter eggs sprinkled throughout were amazing. I couldn't stop grinning.

No and no. I phrased it that way because the simple answer is "no," but also because it wouldn't be possible outside of VR. VR is integral to the game's mechanics. That's something I wouldn't have thought prior to playing it. I would have scoffed at the notion of a need for a 3rd person platformer in VR.

Idk about impossible. I own it and got the platinum trophy for it. I think there are definitely ways they could adjust it to be in 2D and non VR, but it'd require the perspective be changed in a lot of places. Also they'd have to add a reticule for some of the shooting sections and the ability to go into first person view in order to find the chameleons.

Overall it wouldn't be as good though. Game was incredible in VR.

I platinumed it too. It's not only the perspective but the ability to control the camera with the movement of your head while simultaneously controlling Astro. Trying to adapt it to 2D would break the game.

The polish that Astro's Playroom has really has me enjoying it. For just an added little feature to showcase the controller it really is great. I'd like them to make a larger Astro platformer

Switch was competing with PS4 and Xbox One, just as it is competing with PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, and it's still doing gangbusters. It is an electronic entertainment device as the other consoles are. The Switch is a dedicated gaming device like the other two.

There isnt goalpost. The Switch number are from a hybrid and the portable console. The mistake is putting them toghether. Even if a i think it doesnt matter, because the Switcht is mainly a portable. If you remember there was a chart for portable gaming and now there isnt. The lite sales are half is not more of the sales of the switch. The lite is only portable. Now do the math.

On the issue of goalpost moving, actually, YES, this is goalpost moving, and you're doing it now, too. You are literally providing yet another metric for why it doesn't count. Nowhere did I mention the "Switch is not a console" as an excuse, and you're bringing that into the discussion as... Another excuse.

The Switch sales count, full stop. It was gen 9 competing with gen 8 and sold a ton. It is gen 9 competing with gen 9 and again it isn't taken seriously because of the shortages? And here you are, winding up for the newest excuse: it's "mainly a handheld". If we assume that's true, it's still a dedicated gaming platform and it's still competing with Sony and Microsoft.

Again, stop with the goalposts. Switch is very popular and is extremely competitive against the PlayStation and Xbox consoles, from both generations. It's not difficult to understand or accept. Nintendo came up with a winning formula. It's really that simple.

I think it was Kotaku that reveal the graphic of last month and the reality was that. 40% + were Lite version. And it makes perfect sense if you think a little bit. The switch is perfect for portable gaming.

My Switch has been literally gathering dust recently. Bought a physical copy Super Mario 3D All Stars for collection but haven’t opened the game yet. PS5 has been getting most play time, followed by playing PS1 RE classics on Vita.
