PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita Will Continue Operations

From PS Blog: "Recently, we notified players that PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita devices was planned to end this summer.

Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here. So today I’m happy to say that we will be keeping the PlayStation Store operational for PS3 and PS Vita devices. PSP commerce functionality will retire on July 2, 2021 as planned."

When you speak out, they listen. I'm glad they're keeping the PS3/Vita stores up.

darthv721100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

We the people, have the power to change the suits decisions. Everybody deserves a high 👏 🙌

We got Sony to change their mind. Just like MS and the Live price hike.

RauLeCreuset1100d ago

I think they were testing the waters with that live price hike, and the reaction was anticipated, with a plan to respond as they did. It's possible PS just didn't appreciate the amount of support out there for the PS3 and Vita stores, but there's something to be said for FOMO driving sales, and more people being invested in the stores after the threat of losing them must be nice for Sony.

VenomUK1100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

It’s great that Jim Ryan himself wrote the blog post about the reversal because it is indicative of a leader who takes responsibility, as opposed to passing on the update to community staff member or leaving it unnamed.

It also means Sony is aware of the social meadow hullabaloo about it over the past couple of weeks but is not responding because it doesn’t have to react to every hack journo looking to make a name from themselves.

Yup, good on those that actually complained instead of excusing it.

That said, PSP support still going strong is damn impressive. Glad Sony listened here, sad for those who were buying PS3/PSV games for $100.

I assume this reversal relates directly to their intention to create a solution before shutting them down, curious to see what they have planned.

SpadeX1100d ago

I'm so happy they listened. This should be an indicator that our voices as users have power in making/changing decisions. We should still keep in mind that the announcement of shutting the stores down will definitely come in the future, probably not anytime soon until they have some sort of a solution to fix this. PSP store shutting down shouldn't be an issue as Vita's store already supports many PSP games.

Rangerman12081100d ago

This. Even for the fans, it isn't necessary to say yes to everything the company does. It's not a bad thing to speak out on what they did wrong. Moments like this one shows that criticism can bring something good.

Jin_Sakai1100d ago

Thank you for listening Sony. Respect.

-Foxtrot1100d ago

Exactly

Yet there's people who get annoyed when you do speak out

See, nothing to it. You complain enough, they hopefully listen.

So it gives us hope for Days Gone II

I_am_Batman1100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

Well said. Hopefully this is just the first step of Sony waking up to the importance of their legacy. It gives me hope that we'll see them do a 180 and get full backwards compatibility in the long run. I'm also really happy for the devs that still had active Vita projects.

Let this be a lesson to the blind apologists. Criticism is a valuable tool. Thanks to everyone that has spoken out about this.

Godmars2901100d ago

When you've repeatedly been kicked in the balls by everyone in sight , once you're allowed to recover, you tend to listen.

Hopefully, aside from crazed sales, this gets them off their @SS about cross platform BC.

bradleejones1100d ago

They could do it through PS Now software pretty easily.

blackblades1100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

Eh didnt work for The Order or other games and issues.

Great news!

UltraNova1100d ago

It is, because Sony is actually listening to us.

LegoIsAwesome1100d ago

No they aren't, if they are, Jim Ryan would already be kicked out of Sony

Orchard1100d ago

Great news! And all those people on here said we were just hating by speaking up - sometimes when we speak up, big companies listen.

1100d ago
LucasRuinedChildhood1100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

True. The "PlayStation sells the best so they don't need your stupid advice" brigade lost, thankfully.

This gives me a small amount of hope that PS3 backwards combability is more likely now, and has given me a bit more confidence in Jim Ryan. Fair play.

RazzerRedux1100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

Props to Jim Ryan for listening to his fanbase. This was the right decision.

RaidenBlack1100d ago

Jim: One good deed done, few more to go ...

Shiken1100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

Yep, good on Sony. Just like when MS tried to increase Live Gold, it is good to see when companies listen.

The takeaway here is every company is capable of making a poor choice. Do not let your loyalty blind you, and speak up when they mess up (no matter what camp you belong to).

1100d ago Replies(1)
lodossrage1100d ago

I don't give Jim Ryan props because this shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

Same way I didn't give Phil Spencer props when they reversed course on the double XBL charge.

These companies are just testing what they can/ can't get away with. Neither deserve props

JackBNimble1100d ago

The right decision would be to get dev's working on a solution for ps3 BC so we can integrate our libraries into one .

enkiduxiv1100d ago

The hope is that he at least changes his tone about legacy titles. I'm not going to expect a completely backwards compatible PS5, but it would be nice to know that the upper management at least understands what makes Sony great in the first place.

PlayStation Doesn't Need a Dedicated PC Store Launcher

With all the PlayStation games that are now coming to PC, is it time for Sony to release a dedicated PC launcher?

No, and they already solved any need with the overlay that's coming.

Vits3d ago

Unless they are trying to kill their recently created PC business, I would advise against opening a dedicated PC store. It's an extremely hard endeavor, and people, in general, are very comfortable with Steam. Even Epic, with their billions of dollars invested, is still struggling to find a foothold, and they have Fortnite.

just_looken2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Money is one thing security is another but again millions have 0 knowledge past 2020.

Epic store for years struggled with a shopping cart/account theft/credit card theft

Rockstar launcher/store to this day over 5 years later still has horrific user interface security flaws lost account's and stolen CC

Then you got that activision need phone number oh we lost it launcher

The crown jewel is the ea launcher/store ea app 3 yrs old still has hundreds of threads were people lost games/accounts/game access or just straight up crashes.

Edit" Oh ubi launcher were you buy a game that may or may not be there again or work and the launcher 5yrs old still has no 4K support if you launch it on a 4k screen there is a high chance it will just crash.

ocelot072d ago

Can tell who ever put this together is not all that clued up on pc gaming.

It's just a known fact. The PC gaming community prefer Steam and Steam alone. They don't like different launchers. I personally don't mind them. But majority just stick with steam. Hence why EA and Ubisoft went back to on releasing on steam and why Microsoft release games on steam as people hated buying from the windows store.

The only other launchers that I imagine are doing ok is GOG due to being drm free and epic games due to the free games every week. Sony shouldn't release any sort of pc launcher n

Nitrowolf22d ago (Edited 2d ago )

It literally says in the OP that PC gamers don't like multiple launchers lol. It even mentions Steam being the go to for gamers

Tacoboto2d ago

Title: "PlayStation Doesn't Need a Dedicated PC Store Launcher"

N4G: "Can tell who ever put this together is not all that clued up on pc gaming"

When you don't even read the headline...

ocelot072d ago

I read it and had a brain fart. As read the title then this "With all the PlayStation games that are now coming to PC, is it time for Sony to release a dedicated PC launcher?"

So I hold my hands up on that mistake. Rest of my comment still stands.

Giblet_Head2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Steam and GOG are highly preferred because of the rich feature set. Ubisoft, Rockstar, EA, Epic etc have all set a precedent over the years for customers to instinctively expect individual publisher launchers to be so extremely half-assed that the majority simply don't want to bother dealing with what is almost an inevitable disappointment by comparison to Steam or GOG. Those publishers and their inaction or general disinterest to improve have effectively ruined any future adoption to be taken seriously.

Einhander19722d ago (Edited 2d ago )

This is just another ridiculous double standard article.

It's like how Microsoft can spend 20 years of making nothing but gaas and live service style games to sell microtransactions, dlc and subscriptions and get praise for doing it, but if Sony wants to make a single game like that every website under the sun is writing articles saying how Sony is anti-consumer or whatever.

derek2d ago

Yep, huge double standard look at the tortured reaction to the ps5pro, websites hyperventilating like Sony is forcing people to buy it.

just_looken2d ago

Wait my xbox from 2004 has avengers gaas on it? wow your so smart

m$ Gaas started with the other companies like sony

Gamepass yes they are deep into that but its still a huge money saver sense you do not own your games then get a service like that.

Now there pc xbox launcher that is trash for years now
