Outriders Review - IGN

Outriders' blend of wickedly fun sci-fi shooting & looting is well worth enduring its lackluster story and rough edges.

Jericho13371104d ago

Nice to see big websites like IGN take their time with a review. Can’t give a reliable view on a game like this for at least a couple of weeks.

UnSelf1103d ago

I can’t believe I bought this bullshit game. So mad at myself. Smh shit won’t even start

dolfa1103d ago

I got flamed here last week when i stated that the game got over-rated. Mediocre grind rpg shooter that costs 60. So sad to see idiots give money to a bad product.

Shiro1731103d ago

I'm loving the game and put well over 150 hours on it. Awesome looters shooter

This is why it's a win for Gamepass owners. It's a bit mediocre and not worth $60, but when you've paid essentially $0 for it you can enjoy it for what it is and move on to another game when you want without feeling the need to justify your purchase.

Hellcat20201103d ago

The bugs are ironed out
It's a solid 8/9 game now

jznrpg1103d ago

The game is janky without bugs it’s a 5/6 to me . Mediocre game

Elda1103d ago

I couldn't sign in. I had to delete the game & reinstall it just to play. The game is fun but it has technical issues.

svoulis1103d ago

I agree with a lot of points in this review, I wish they touched on a very important one that, if you ask me breaks the game. In Co-op the enemies scale to 100% extra health and damage when others join. For example I can clear a T13 expedition solo but if I let people join my game, all the sudden i am shooting marshmallows at basic enemies. While this may not be an issue if you're playing with friends because you can know their builds. I've had plenty of times where my damage was over 100 million, where-as my Co-op partners were well under 20 mil. This makes the game laborious and honestly not fun. They need to change the system to make it take into account the damage output of team members before scaling the enemies.

--Onilink--1103d ago (Edited 1103d ago )

Is there a game that actually does that? You are asking them to change the difficulty on the fly based on how people are playing as opposed to having a set difficulty and people working to being able play at that difficulty. Not to mention how would it even work with people swapping gear at any point?

Yes, matchmaking with people who are not prepared for a given difficulty sucks, I’ve seen it several times and its actually worse with my friends who have terrible builds, but thats a problem of the people playing the game, not the scaling system itself.

svoulis1103d ago

There are many ways to incorporate difficulty aside from a blanket buff on enemies. For example, instead of higher health, they can do more damage and also have more enemies. I just feel like the matchmaking in this game is so far from "current" with no option to set a Challenge Tier before joining, and how many times I've joined an expedition only to be loaded into someone farming out hunts or bounties. I really like the end game I just wish they made the system more fun with people. As of now Its only fun by myself and thats the part I hate.

pecorre1103d ago

Diablo 3 does exactly that. It scales your equipement so you can play with other people.

FanboysKiller1103d ago

Without reading anything , the number indicates that nothing new here , they should try something new which is another way of chasing destiny ghost, which is an insufficient way of covering the whole thing from all different angles , nice try ign , try harder next time.

The 7 Best Co-op Games on PS5

There's no better way to enjoy your PS5 than with friends, so here's our picks of the best co-op games on the console.

Cacabunga103d ago

For coop, get a used switch instead

jznrpg103d ago

I own a Switch and have never played co-op on it. I do play Elden Ring , Demons Souls and some other co/op games with my friends on PS5. Baldurs Gate 3 is the next game I’ll play co-op. Can’t do that on a Switch

Cacabunga103d ago

I was thinking for couch casual immediate fun.. not online coop games that require some adaptation.

played it..de-installed it after 30 minutes.

Lighter9674d ago

I got pretty far, and just stopped caring. I uninstalled it as well.

Profchaos674d ago

It's extremely generic. It's not bad but it reminds me of the period between 2007 and 2009 where gears introduced cover shooters so almost everyone went out and made a unreal engine 3 cover shooter.
It feels like that to destiny

IanTH674d ago (Edited 674d ago )

For some it is. At launch, I expect more people felt that way. It also had tons of technical issues back then, at least on PC. I tried it after the New Horizons expansion later last year. I found the campaign enjoyable enough, even if not an amazing one. The gameplay was pretty fun, the story was pretty pants (but how many games can say otherwise lol). Still had some bugs even then, though.

I've no idea what is in the newest expansion, but if it ever piqued your interest, I'd suggest giving it a shot. It might give you 20-30 hours of fun before it fizzles out. Maybe I'll look into this expansion, see what's what.

MadLad674d ago (Edited 674d ago )

I'm having fun with it.
Originally avoided it having heard of the issues around launch.
It has been sitting on Gamepass so finally downloading it the other day.
I'm about 3 hours in, have my Trickster class at level ten, and it's a pretty good time.

Don't know if I'll end up beating it or not, but I'd give it a solid 8 so far, personally.

Livingthedream674d ago

Nah it’s fun, first 30 minutes ain’t enough. Give it a go!

Terry_B674d ago

I played through the entire campaign. It was very generic. The story was mediocre and the technical issues on PC were pretty bad. They patched it up quite a bit. It plays better now. I can say the only reason why I enjoyed it was because I missed Division 2-type gameplay but was was tired of running around the same areas in New York. The endgame is just an enemy hitpoint multiplier where a tiny creature has 20,000 HP. It's too bullet-spongy.
