MetaHuman Creator Preview - The Future of Video Game Characters? - CG

CG writes: Epic just released their rather neat MetaHuman Creator in Early Access which offers and we quote: “a new tool that will empower anyone to create a bespoke photorealistic digital human, fully rigged and complete with hair and clothing, in a matter of minutes.” We had a quick look and came away very impressed with the creation process. this is nuts. such fidelity and at no cost. this is a mega win for indie developers.

and that's not all. Epic games confirmed they're making their own Dreams for free.
It's called "Core". a UE powered game/game making tool. for which you can play thousands of gamer created content creations for free.

"Core makes it possible by giving beginners and pros alike the power of Unreal in an accessible interface. Thus, players can have access to hundreds of free, high-quality music, sound, and art assets. They will also access built-in 3D modeling and terrain sculpting tools."

features actual rendered nose hairs among skin hairs. that's more than enough detail i think. not even the highest budget games feature nose hairs yet. indie games will sure to receive a huge boost by using this in their projects.

It is amazing, but I really want to see less chase for photorealism honestly. More stylized games please!

UnholyLight21d ago

Why not both? I think photorealism was always an ultimate goal of gaming let's be honest. Think of the immersion with playing games that will provide you with that "real life" feel.

Well yeah...I didn't say exclusively one or the other, I just wanna see more attempts at a stylized presentation. Like I would totally be down for watchdogs legion with an aesthetic more like say... Jet Set Radio, but as it is, it's just kinda yet another ubisoft game with no charm.

When will we see games using Unreal 5 ?

And the reason Sony invested 200 million more into Epic this round. After investing 250 million into Epic last July. Only second to Tencent's money.

Ease of development. And it will benefit all developers big and small and games can come out faster and at a higher quality.

Epic is winning with their moves when it comes to development.
