Members of the PSN Profiles forum have listed over 30 games that have allegedly stopped detecting their previously released updates, including first-party titles Journey, Gran Turismo 5 and Twisted Metal.
This is getting ridiculous. This better be a glitch and not an intentional, permanent decision.
Wahh wahh wahh This is an over-reaction. PS3 games will be moved to PSNow
I just gifted my PS3 to my sister who enjoys fun party games with multiple people, if she wants to redownload games they had better not take away patches and updates, that's ridiculous.

My guess is that your sister won't notice the vanilla from the update.
Somethng is coming. There are huge rumors on the web. If they are true...
What rumors are you talking about?
How does the dark knight not know what he's talking about?
What kind of rumours? Have not heard much I know they hired the rpcs3 guys but that all went quiet
What is coming exactly?
Winter is coming.
@CptDville haha god I hope not
You don't end something with a replacement that is being built. You keep it going until the replacement is up and running.
Demon’s Souls says hi.
Whelp pirating my PS3 isn't a bad idea now!

It's making me feel like buying multiplatform and indie games on PlayStation is a bad idea going forward. Hopefully, Sony redeem themselves and this is just some sort of mistake.
Ikr Sony right now needs a 2013 moment to get their butt back into shape.
That's a damn shame if this is true.
Jump to xbox. Xbox 360 DLCs are still available for most of all games. Backwards compatible
This isn't true. You have someone who downloaded and updated Street Fighter 3 no problem here. https://www.resetera.com/th... And the Dante's Inferno patch has been a problem since at least 2011. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.c...
Funny how many people knew this would happen, brought it up fairly often, and now everyone is acting surprised. No online service lasts forever, especially one tied to a platform that has been succeeded twice already. Yeah it sucks, but I knew it would happen some day, it's the main reason I loathe day 1 patches and games broken at launch, cause in the future those updates won't be around and you're just stuck with a broken game
Yes very true. Maybe not everything is known, but I don't like this one bit. Especially when so many games need a Day 1 patch just to play. I personally don't understand why files and data on servers gets closed or deleted in the first place. Just leave it there. Like others have said Sony needs a wake up call with bc
Storing all that data costs money, and they aren't making money off that growing pile of legacy titles. From a business standpoint it doesn't make sense to keep them up, but I do agree that expanding BC to those legacy consoles solves both of those problems. They make money, we keep access to older libraries, here's hoping that's on the table, but I somehow doubt it.
Why does Sony treat its legacy so shamefully?
Well, the people running PlayStation these days had nothing to do with a lot of that legacy stuff so they probably won't see the value in it.
ps3 is 15 years old, do you want 15 year old games or new ones.??? even auto (car/suv/truck) makers stop making parts for old cars after 15 years,.. cant keep em going for ever, its call lifespan?
That's nonsense. Funding the R&D to make the PS5 completely backwards compatible through emulation would probably cost them two orders of magnitude less than funding a single AAA flagship title. Not to mention that Sony's strong back catalog is one of the best ways to make a service like PSNow appealing. Cheaping out on an investment like that is bad business even if you look at the numbers alone. Having a working emulator would not only allow them to save money on their PSNow server cabinets, it would also open up the potential of reselling old games without the need to invest in creating a remaster. On top of all that it would also create Goodwill among the vocal hardcore gaming community and improve their relation with developers. It's literally a win-win situation.
I want good games, no matter the age. Didn't know they needed make new parts for old games. It must be a huge investment to keep old games functional as their parts go absolet.
Both. I want Both since it's been shown possible. No worries my dude, we'll keep fighting the good fight. Game on!
You can have both. It doesn't need to be one or the other.
@ purple Are you seriously saying I should want my games to be placeholders and that shouldn’t want to be able to go back to any game at any point I want to?
Good thing I already updated GT5 to 2.11 ages ago for Hybrids. If this true then certain games will stay broken on PS3 and there many out there that need updates. Hoping that folks at Brewology already get their hands on as many game patch and updates as they can before this happen. Sony better come out clarify about this.
The alternative is the rpcs3 team should never disappoint us , just like pcsx2 , they have to earn the trust from the community, Business is Business and we all know that, that's why corporates can't argue about unsupported games being accessible to the public and that doesn't count as piracy cause it's their fault , not our fault.
Well, at least we now know the ultimate fate of digital libraries and GaaS. Thank the gods for piracy.
Sony pulls all this but yet Microsoft is keeping the XB360 going I can even still rent movies on it
OK, What would be Sony's end goal by making the game available to download but not the patches? It's probably a server issue and will probably be fixed.
i mean, we knew this is gonna happen eventually right? why is everyone so upset all of a sudden? i mean i get it, but really?
Main reason I'm now buying all third party games exclusively on xbox. Playstation its first party titles only.
