Is Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster Worth the Price?

KeenGamer: "Is Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster worth the asking price? With the JRPG cult classic arriving on May 25th, there has been much excitement over the cult classic being brought to modern systems. While there have been improvements over the original, problems with the port's quality leave many to question if the title is worth the hefty price."

"The standard edition is priced at $49.99, and the Digital Deluxe edition is priced at a whopping $69.99. "

Not even close. Persona 4 Golden released on Steam for $20 and a $25 deluxe edition. Why is Sega/Atlus trying to price gouge consoles?

SDuck1482d ago

Said it all. If P4 Golden cost 20 bucks on Steam release, there's no excuse for this one to be over 3 times that price

Persona 4 golden released at 40 on Vita. The PC version is just a port of that. Nocturne should be 40. But with Nintendo charging all their remasters at 60 Atlus is going to charge around the same as well.

RazzerRedux1482d ago (Edited 1482d ago )

Catherine was released on Steam for $20 and $40 on PS4. Vanquish was $20, I think. I don't see why a game as old as Nocturne deserves a $50 price tag without it being a remake. Just weird pricing.

VersusDMC1482d ago

@ Razzer

Those were barebone ports with nothing added released years after the original release. Are you saying that Persona 5 strikers on Steam shoud have been cheaper than the console versions?

RazzerRedux1482d ago

You'll have to explain to me what is in Nocturne that justifies the massive price hike over previous ports then.

"Are you saying that Persona 5 strikers on Steam shoud have been cheaper than the console versions?"

I'm questioning why the Steam versions are cheaper, not saying they should be.

I blame Nintendo getting away with ridiculous pricing. Ratchet PS4 dropped at $40 crash trilogy dropped at $40, last of Us remastered with the dlc was cried about so they dropped it to $50 before release, spyro was $40, etc. Companies like SE and Sega/Atlus are getting bold because as of late it's been mostly Nintendo doing this stuff and they've been getting away with it getting numbers and next to no criticism. Only way to deal with this is not buy the games until the prices drop. Only reason I'm not getting day one and I'll get down the line is exactly that lol

"Nintendo doing this stuff and they've been getting away with it getting numbers and next to no criticism"

Literally every time Nintendo or a third party announces a port to the Switch people swarm the article (on multiple websites) critiquing their pricing. They say things like "the Nintendo tax" and whatnot. Sometimes they even insult the fanbase, like what VersusDMC did up above. "Next to no criticism" is just false. They get lots of criticism for it.

From what we know from the japanese release I would go with a solid "no". If it was like $30 or a better developed remaster, maybe. But I honestly don't think the few QoL changes and the visual upgrade is worth $50.

And the deluxe edition is another can of worms entirely.

Terry_B1482d ago

No. It should have been 19,95..with any extras.

CrimsonWing691482d ago

For me it is, but now we’re talking about perceived value. $50 to play one of my favorite RPGs and earn the platinum is worth it to me, but from what I gather from the other comments on her it isn’t worth it for many others.

Teflon021482d ago

This is respectable because when something's a favourite you have a different perspective. As I said in the past Dark Cloud 2 I paid $100 to get a copy back physical when mine went missing. And bought on PS4 the day the PS2 version was put on it. I said I literally didn't care what the price was, I was buying it. Could have been $80 CAD and I still would have been okay with it. Though rationally I would know outside of me, it's not worth the price

Chevalier1482d ago

Holy. Did Dark Cloud 2 go for that high? I lucked out I guess when were selling them for $9.99 at Superstore when I got mine. Still mint and on my shelf.

Would love if Level 2 could work with Sony and make Dark Cloud 3.

This game is the best entry in the series. Worth every penny. Avoid the usual Atlus DLC as it'll break the difficulty.
