My GOTY is Fallout 3 followed somewhat closely by MGS4. Fallout 3 just pulls you in and refuses to allow you to escape the wasteland. Bethesda did a wonderful job with the title.

Anyway, two people picked Fallout 3 and four picked MGS4, those are the only games that have been chosen more than once(I think).

A good pick in my opinion, but then again i haven't played all the games on all the consoles this year so it is just based on what i have played. Always been a big fan of the Fallout series and Fallout 3 continues to keep me entertained.
@ Rock Bottom - The whole 10 minute ending after you battle your way to the purification plant does not doom the entire game. I do however agree that the ending wasn't that great but the rest of the game was awesome. Don't bother with the ending until you have explored and enjoyed the entire game.

But I'd want Persona 4 or Fable 2 to be right up there behind it. I think this year towards 4th quarter we got a small peek at what to expect from rpg's next year.

Persona 4 deserves to be RPG of the year but I dont think they're gonna give it to a PS2 game and Persona just isn't as popular as other RPG like Fallout or Fable..

Having played through all the older Fallouts along with this one recently (on PS3 and PC). I wept for you a little bit with that statement.

To think that you have the best version of Fallout without the ability to experience the extensive MOD community that follows the game is sacrilege. Wait a year or two and check back with the PC version, the stuff people will have done with it will be nuts.

And if it was as great as you said it was (I thought it was) then you can't complain about playing it again in a year's time. I can't wait!

PS Game of the Year for me is MGS4; though with the amount of votes one here it doesn't need much explaining.. haven't really felt like that with a game before.

No u dont have to love everything ps3. Ur entitled to ur opinion but my point was that there IS ACTUALLY A STORY there. Not many games INCLUDING *look* INCLUDING games on the PS3 *look* 'PS3' have such an in depth story. What about the ending was "epic fail?" I'd like to hear out your opinion. I thought, aside from one aspect of it, it was a pretty awesome ending that fit well without being the cliche "everything blows up escape!" angle.

You guys do know that someone is aloud to have an opinion that doesn't hold the ending of MGS4 in high regard right? For example the ending for fallout 3 wasn't great but i don't think it was as bad as other people say, but that doesn't make them wrong.
No game is infallible, everyone isn't going to think it is the best thing since sliced bread, so there is nothing wrong with someone having an opinion that is against the general consensus.

And I disagree with you trophy. Solar is pretty much right on... they changed nothing, same "snake? snake? snaaaaaaaaaaake!" bull$#*% when you die... same long cutscenes but longer this time... and the ending, sorry to spoil but the ending was not that fight Snake had with Liquid, oh no, it was that horrific cutscene when Big Boss shows up. And the constant coughing? Wtf? Everything dragged, from dialogue to those stupid "sickness" attacks as if to "fill" the game since they had hardly ANY gameplay. Have mercy, in the last cutscene I kept my composure till it went to menu screen... after that I flung that darn game and promised to never play it as long as I live. You should've seen my wife's face when she saw how disappointed I was, priceless! I'm sorry, MGS4 = Epic fail, for me. I didn't enjoy the experience at all.

Fable 2 is right up there with Fallout 3 and Gears 2. Three great games this year.

Sry, just wanted to use that, but still. PC version assassinates ps3 and 360 versions. I've seen retarded glitches in the 360 version (cause of the shaft PS3 version got by not getting expansions)

Glitches so bad that it caused a block of color to appear between me and a slaver that made me not be able to hit him. Litterally, a block of COLOR! Then, i permanently lost a quest bc I sold the lincoln artifacts to the slaver then killed him after he asked me to hunt one down. I literally can't beat or get rid of that quest. It tells me to talk to that slaver's body that is still on the ground inside the lincoln memorial.

PC version hands down. DLC (yes, they get it. Bethesda is a PC dev, why shaft pc version?) and something that is better than DLC, something the 360 completely fails at having for any game, User created content. In the fallout editor, you can create new sections of map and even your own quests. Heck, you can create your own expansion.

Call Of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare became GOTY, Oblivion too. Fallout 3 is full of bugs and quite repetitive. But Oblivion became GOTY so there are much chances Fallout 3 does too.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a deal of quality, and if i wish LittleBigPlanet goes GOTY, i'm afraid it wont and let the place to that dirty GTA IV.

If you read the article, the writer basically said that the GOTY is whatever YOU want it to be. They laid out all of their picks and the writer told you his pick as well. It's not THE SG pick, because there's no such thing as a SG pick, just individual picks for individual gamers.

LBP is my game of the year. The game is so fresh and so fun. I just recently started the level creation tutorial and i was blown away by the sheer depth of the game. Seriously. And the "story" levels are pretty awesome as well and the UGC is quite awesome.

MGS4 gets the runner up price from me. Amazing story but didn't quite live up to my lofty expectations in the gameplay department. But it is QUITE hard to top Snake Eater gameplay wise.
