Oddworld Soulstorm review: Plenty of smart ideas, but few of them gel | VGC

From VGC: "Oddworld’s hero, Abe, always was an ungainly creature. Awkward and clumsy, like most members of his enslaved Mudokon race. To escape servitude, he has to rely on stealth, makeshift tools and his one extraordinary power to telepathically possess his enemies.

Those are all very useful, but Abe lives in a world that expects him to be far more reactive and agile than he is. It’s a world packed with hazards and enemies that can end him instantly, punishing every small false move. And when you’re as ungainly as Abe, small false moves are never far away."

Here’s a better idea, instead of trashing its difficulty in your review - git gud!

Some people should get licensed to post responsibly on reviews. People like this reviewer are lazy, amateurish, and have no concept of paying attention to the thoughtfulness of a developers intention to drive a narrative via way they design their work of art. Challenge should never be a negative if the point of the game is playing an underdog like Abe who needs to be resourceful and cunning to beat the odds against him.

This review is trash.

We really need to support this great independent developer. The universe it created is so exciting and rich and unique. If we can push this on the charts, it’ll mean we will get lots of the intended new games that are planned in a quintology. A franchise that started on the PS1, and is back again and needs all of us.

It’ll mean we get more independence for them to not need huge publishers to finance their ambitions. And that’s a win for all of us, as they’re a breath of fresh air in the industry.
