Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2: PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S - 120fps Is A Game Changer

Digital Foundry : One of the greatest remakes of all-time, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 from Vicarious Visions has received a new (paid for) patch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. There are graphics upgrades, along with fidelity and performance modes. In this video, Alex Battaglia and John Linneman take you through the various new features but let's put it this way - it's 120fps action that's the game-changer for this one.

If we are talking about televisions 90% of them don't even support 120fps.

A solid 60 fps is more than sufficient.

why are you shocked by the PC load time? There are varying degrees of NVMe drives available for PC, with all sorts of speeds.

When PC loads literally one blink of an eye slower and people are shocked, forgetting in one swoop the past twenty five years consoles have had 30 second longer load times on virtually every game.

I actually love the darker look of the next gen versions.

The new approach to post-processing (different to even PC) gives a much higher contrast between bright and dark areas, and emphasizes godrays and the improved shadows. idk, It weirdly gives the game more personality. The originals had blood and were grittier than the remake so this feels a bit more accurate.

I always felt that the existing versions looked a bit washed out, tbh. Skip to 4:22 for some footage of the difference.

It's great that DF pointed out that the marketing material for the Performance Mode on PS5 is inaccurate - it's 1440p, not a significantly lower 1080p. Very strange.

I believe the reason it is marketed that way is because the PS5 does not output 1440 but hopefully Sony will officially address that at some point. So Activision cant list a resolution on the back that isnt officially supported.

Congrats on 120fps, PC 200 FPS @ 1080 and 144 FPS at 1440 https://www.youtube.com/wat... 😁 I would always pick the higher FPS over higher res and lower FPS. Been playing with triple digit fps for a few years and when games drop below that I can def notice it. I'm just waiting for the day when the FPS we have now at 1080p can be the same in 4K , that day will come but not for a few years. Hell even 1440p the FPS drop a lot with eveything max, I'm not upgrading to that either, just don't like it.

Yeah, I myself have a 3070+3700x soon a 5900x if I can find it lol. PS5 is just a bit faster than PC load times but nothing crazy and hardly will notice it. Plus I think the devs didn't even optimize it for the PC's SSD so just imagine if they did, it would probably match or be lower. 🙃🎮

PC will always have comparable loading on a cross gen title with a NVMe. The difference will be on the games built around it.

Using the term "gamechanger" has become meangingless recently. 120fps is not a gamechanger. Its an exponential decrease in returns...you could literally run 2 games at 60fps with that power. Going from 20fps to 60fps is a gamechanger. 120fps is just gravy and cherries.

Putting it another way: Do do you get the same satisfaction from going from running a game at 15fps to 30fps? Or from 30fps to 60fps? Going from 60 to 120 is just a luxury. I have a CX And the visual gains just arent that impressive.
A game changer would be using that power to add to the physics system or the lighting.
