Bugbear Entertainment’s “Wreckfest” is coming digitally and physically to the PS5 on June 1st, 2021

"The worldwide video game publisher THQ and Finland-based indie games developer Bugbear Entertainment, are today super excited and happy to announce that their demolition derby-themed racing game Wreckfest" is coming digitally and physically to the PS5 on June 1st, 2021." - Jonas Ek, TGG.

Great game.. the only problem with it was the frame rate on ps4. Now that's fixed for ps5. Will cost 9.99 to upgrade. It's a no brainer. You will not have this much fun on any other racing game.

They updated the game to 4K 60fps on the Series X for free. That wasn't a native port I suppose and definitely isn't as good as this PS5 version (missing a lot of improvements), but ... this is a tad dodgy. haha.

They better at least put some effort into the haptic feedback.

A big concern I have is that they are bumping the player count up to 24 - that doesn't sound like you'll be playing with PS4 players. Unless there's cross play with PC, this version of the game is basically a new player base and that could result in longer wait times for matchmaking.

I think that PS4 version not getting updated was a business decision to incentivize people to upgrade. This isn't because of Sony's approach to backwards compatibility (would have been a straightforward update like Jedi Fallen Order).

I forgot that Xbox players can play this on GamePass. I'm sure that this will eventually come to Series X|S but only after it leaves GP which is probably complicating the $10 upgrade.

It seems like they knew that next gen Xbox version is a while off so they updated XB1 version, while the PS5 version is just around the corner so they decided not to update the PS4 version.

It's on PS Now until May 31st - the day before the PS5 version releases. That's not a coincidence. haha

The question is then if I stick ps4 disk into ps5 .. will I see higher fps anyway..?? That was my only problem with it.

Say what? You have to pau 9,99 USD for the upgraded version on the PS5?

Whitey2k211d ago (Edited 211d ago )

If i pay 9.99 for full upgrade for ps5 compared to the xbox then fair enough but if it was just similar to the xbox version then i wouldnt pay 9.99 when xbox got it free

Ozzy2407211d ago

Its not the same as Xbox which had 4K 60FPS
Wreckfest PS5 multiplayer features up to 24 players now (up from 16).

Here's the complete list of new features included with the Wreckfest PS5 upgrade, straight from THQ Nordic.

Dynamic dirt on vehicles
Improved shadows, particles, and environment lighting
Higher resolution textures
Increased amount of foliage
New visual effects for skidmarks
DualSense haptic effects
Much faster loading times

Whitey2k211d ago

Yeah i noticed it but thankyou anyways i was just saying that if it was the same as xbox i wouldnt pay 9.99 when xbox got it free :-) but 9.99 for a quite a fair upgrade seems reasonable

Selling game upgrades like resolution, effects should never be commended.

What is next, selling 4K texture packs?

I was very desapointed in this game, music is good but sound fx are terrible, since I could not enjoy the music this game is trash.

purple101211d ago

Oh you are right. Music Is good.. sfx I usually turn down to minimum on most games.. especially ones with good soundtrack I actually want to enjoy!

Imortus_san211d ago

I Rather have the sound of metal crashing and the engine sound, and the games really fails to capture that, with is the most importante parte of the game to me.

I'm glad I teste this on Xbox Gold Weekend last year before buying, I was really lucky.

TallDarknWavy211d ago

The default engine sounds were super loud, so I just adjusted them down to like 70% so they're more in line with the rest of the sound.
It's not that difficult.

Imortus_san210d ago

LOL, sound is bad not laoud, just really bad.

Locutus_of_borg211d ago

Id actually like to see it running alongside the xbox version to decide if its worth the paid upgrade...

StoneyYoshi211d ago

Honestly, just having more opponents on the track with 60FPS and faster load times is worth it to me.
Xbox version is still capped at 16 cars and same graphics effects from the XBO version.

Locutus_of_borg211d ago

Fair play, and each to their own, but having nearly completed it I’m just undecided as to wether I would want to replay it at an extra cost, but admittedly I did enjoy the game.

DJStotty209d ago

The question is, why are people happy paying for upgrades?

I personally will never pay for a game to be upgraded, that should be updated for free.

This will encourage more developers/publishers to put price tags on these kind of things, fast forward a few years from now :-

(insert game name here) - £59.99

4K texture pack download - £3.99
Raytracing pack download - £4.99
Increased multiplayer lobbies - £1.99
Super duper particle pack - £3.49
Ginormous green grass pack (foliage) - £0.99
Fantastical futuristic load times - £8.99

Or buy the super mega full frontal extra packed standard enhanced next gen edition for £79.99
