It's all well and good until some greedy publishers put a stop to it.

Double_O_Revan1528d ago

Yea, I don't see it taking long before someone at least tries to fight this. My money is on EA.

Same here didn't they stop certain games being able to be share played on PS4? FIFA I think it was.

To be fair, you can share your entire library on PlayStation/Xbox with a secondary console of the same family. Maybe publishers haven’t said anything yet because it’s limited to one additional device?

Publishers can always opt out and pull their products from Steam if they don’t like it. They may decide otherwise given Steam’s reach and market share in the PC space.

This issue is streaming games. Allowing people who don't own a game to stream the game without buying it.

EA disabled share play on on PS4 for some of there fifa games. Most likely because they see it as people playing there product for free.

Look at Nvidia geforce now. Spite people buying the games. Some publishers won't allow them to stream them to their own device as they feel they should be entitled to more money.

Not necessarily. Since its streaming from the computer the game is installed on and the fact that theres no cost to do this would lead me to believe that this wont happen. The reason it happened to Geforce now is because you are essentially running your purchased game on a totally different device in a remote location and you are paying to do so.

You don't have to pay to do it though. Nvidia off a free version to do it where you are limited to 1 hour per session some publishers don't even allow that.

Even with the playstation shareplay. Some publishers like disable it for certain games.

@Ocelot07

"Nvidia off a free version to do it where you are limited to 1 hour per session some publishers don't even allow that."
You are still running the game on a device in a remote location regardless. And Nvidia wasn't asking for permission to put their games on the cloud service which is one of the main reasons.

"Even with the playstation shareplay. Some publishers like disable it for certain games."

I believe that has to do with the developers choice for that platform specifically, meaning they have the game coded to not allow the game to be streamed similar to how you cant record certain cutscenes in some games for spoiler reasons and such. But I cant seem to find anything that says Fifa is blocked from shareplay. It doesn't work in some regions and you can only shareplay the base game not the ultimate editions and such but its not completely pulled from shareplay like you stated.

We will find out soon enough and if it does happen, it wont be anywhere near the level of what happened with Geforce now since Steam is smart and asks for permission and also the fact that its your own device streaming the game on your own PC which isn't controlled like a playstation through an online service.

It's things like this that make me disappointed when games are only available on other game stores.

Awesome! Was already pleased with the regular remote play feature. This is even better.
