Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection was announced by Koei Tecmo, but many fans are unhappy and believe it's the wrong games being remastered.
I'm a fan and I'm not unhappy I cant wait for it to come out.
I never owned an Xbox console, I was always a fan of Japanese games so I stuck with the PS brand up until 4 years ago when I started gaming on PC. As someone who only ever played the Sigma games, this is good news for me, but it's understandable why the fans of the original games are ticked. Tecmo-KOEI SHOULD have included both versions of the games in this collection.
Maybe but they haven't release full details of it yet.
While mostly PS player ..i m unhappy too ...Ninja Gaiden 1-2 the original Xbox exclusive Itagaki made games were the real deal ....were violent brutal ,and aesthetically (lot of visual differences) far better than sigma series
I have all of the NG games and to be able to play these on the Switch, I can't wait.
I can't say that I'm unhappy. Because I never played the Sigma versions of the games, so I only know about them by word of mouth and who knows I might be suprised with the end product. If anything my big concern is how well the PC version will run. And at least the original version can be played in any modern Xbox console by means of the backward program. Is not a perfect solution, but at least it's there.
Yes Xbox console owners can always play the originals. The problem is Nintendo, Playstation and PC gamers(they outnumber Xbox owners) want to play the original NG2. That is why people are upset as the master collection. This Master collection should have included both NG2 and Sigma 2. Because they are two completely different games. Sigma 1 is a Remake of NG Black. Sigma 2 is a Alternate NG2
While I agree with you there. The reason why they did not went with that direction is likely exactly what you call the problem. Nintendo and PC players had very little contact with the series so they are unlikely to know or care about the differences. Meanwhile PS players had the Sigma series and Xbox players already have access to the original versions so they likely wouldn't care for the collection if it featured those. In other words. It's the Sigma version exactly because they at least thought that there is a bigger market for it than the original.
this would have been a great opportunity for the developers to allow gamers to switch between the original and sigma versions. unless this gets patched the only other options would be to wait for mods or play the originals. or just be content with the remastered versions.
maybe with enough reception they will patch it with original gameplay options.
they re-released DOA in different versions. don't see why they can't patch in classic modes to the collection.
That would also be a lot more expensive though. Because other than the Xbox that already have access to those versions. The other platforms would require 3 more ports each making it a much more expensive project.
@Tech5 Agreed, good point.

"But censorship is not the most important issue by far. The biggest change to note and what makes many fans unhappy are direct gameplay changes. Some of the stages of Ninja Gaiden 2 are completely different in Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma. The maps and layout are the same, but the enemies’ placements and waves are like night and day." Very intelligent typed article. Enemy placements and waves are like night and day-so true the Sigma 2 port is ruined here
If enemy placement and waves differ, how do they differ if you don't mind me asking? Are the differences arbitrary, or is one harder than the other or something? I'd prefer the more difficult version if that is the case. Changing the number of waves, placing of waves, and enemy types seems like a small change unless there is a significant change in difficulty or length of play-through caused by it, or if they somehow left out enemies that are fun to encounter or something. All I'm saying is that telling me the enemy waves change, tells me nothing. Did they make it easier? Why were they changed and what were they changed too I wonder, what was the reasoning and result?

Thanks, I'll check it out. Upvote for you!
Holy crap!!! I completely forgot how intense that action was in NG2. Gonna have to fire this up in the X1X. To this day I still hate that the roll from NG1 was replaced with the dash in NG2. Did they ever say why that was done?
"At the end of the day, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 are pretty much different games instead of an original and its port. Fans are unhappy and sad that even with these new remasters, the only way to play the original Ninja Gaiden 2 is still having access to an Xbox 360." - this statement is true that NG2 and Sigma 2 feel like two completely different NG games. However the last statement of the article-"the only way to play the original Ninia Gaiden 2 is still having access to Xbox 360" - is false information. You can play Ninja Gaiden 2 on a Xbox One and you can play NG2 Enhanced on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X in stunning Near 4k resolution and full 60fps. The only way to play the original Ninia Gaiden 2 is still having access to Xbox 360, Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles
What about 120 fps?
The microsoft backwards compatibility team can update both Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2 to play at 120fps on Xbox Series X consoles if enough xbox players demand it. The Ninja Gaiden Master collection all three remastered Sigma and razors edge games can play at 120fps only if Tecmo includes Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X Enhanced support. The ball is fully in Tecmo's court if they want to add 120fps gameplay for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles.
Because they are the inferior Sigma versions not the far superior original ones.
Because they’d didn’t include Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z 😂
And Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword
Seriously though, they need to have the original 3 NES games on there somewhere. I know they're on the og NG1/black, don't know about sigma.
It always irked me how they censored blood and dismemberment in Sigma 2. I’m a NG fan so I’m still picking this up, but yea there’s some disappointment for me, personally.
I'm a huge Ninja Gaiden (Black) fan, and definitely won't be picking this up. Sadly. I have zero interest in the Sigma games. The Itagaki games were easily better than what the studio did to this series without him.
Here is a major difference comparison between NG2 and Sigma 2 on one stage from a youtube video: https://youtu.be/VDAiYc_sy8...
Since when does changing some content qualify as a “remaster”? These are not upgraded visually.
Every remaster and collection are stupid, release new games and stop focusing on old games.
There are lots of good remasters/collections. For example, lots of people had a 360/didn’t have a PS3 but switched to PS4 for gen 8 so having the uncharted collection and updated TLOU was a great idea. MGS collection is great too.
In many cases a new entry in a franchise is under development at the same a remaster is being worked on. In fact, sometimes the main developer isn't even the one working on the remaster and its being handled by a 3rd party. So your argument doesn't really hold up.
NG1/Black and og NG2 are some of the the best games ever made, not to mention the original NES game. Its very unlikely they'd be outdone by sequels. They'd still be worthy ports for modern consoles even if they could be outdone.
More Ninja Gaiden is a good thing.
True, but Team Ninja should bring it back the right way - respect the legacy of the original games as well as their fans.
So make it 2D...
@Z501 That's actually a good idea. I guess the difficulty level could be turnoff for some people but hardcore fans would be excited.
They butchered the New York City chapter and the Return to Hayabusa Village chapter in Sigma 2. There are other things but I believe those two are the worst changes from NG2 to Sigma 2. You can watch YouTube videos to see yourselves. Sigma 2 changed the enemy placements for the worst from fighting and hundreds hundreds of ninjas at the beginning of Return to Hayabusa village on xbox to fighting just about few boring demon dogs on Playstation version. And the beginning of the New York chapter enemy placements was also changed for the worst on Sigma 2
Maybe one day they will release some kind of "Ninja Gaiden Omega Collection" taking the best aspects of both Black and Sigma versions. Merge NGB masterful gameplay and "feel" with Sigma's graphics, dlc content and hot girls (Ayane, Rachel, Momiji, Kasumi) and make this legendary series great once again!
Why are they mad you get to continue playing the game on new consoles and for those who haven’t played them can get them all at once yes it’s a remaster sure this is getting old but hey hopefully this has some secret stuff within teasing the next project but who knows lol
Maybe you should read the article if you don't understand why people are mad. I'll help you out. There were two versions of Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden 2. There were the original versions that were on Xbox and Xbox 360, then there were different versions called Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. The sigma versions were censored to have far less blood, gore, and no dismemberment. In Sigma 2, stages, enemies, enemy placement, and bosses were also heavily changed. Its basically a different gameplay experience that many consider to be much weaker than the original versions.
*3 versions of Ninja Gaiden. Don't forget Black.
Thanks for you’re input but if that’s a make or break for a game that’s getting a packaged deal here then don’t buy it all because enemy placement is changed or the enemies are weaker shouldn’t ruin the game honestly
But thats really up to people to decide on their own, isn't it? The first two Ninja Gaiden games were very challenging. For some people, changing enemy locations and making big changes to them, including difficiulty, as well as removing the blood and dismemberment is a big change and effects gameplay. Can't fault people for not being happy about that.
The Sigma versions have overall more content. More weapons, Bosses and enemies. The only one of the three that could be considered different is Ninja Gaiden 2 which the difference is literally enemy placement, blood and that’s it. The original version of ninja gaiden 2 also had very bad camera tracking that boosted the games difficulty feel with poor performance. The best way to play that version is on Xbox one X and above hardware and yet it still doesn’t fix the core mechanics missing from sigma or tracking camera issue. Yet still at the end of the day if you want to get that version you can download it with ease on Xbox family. Sigma series is locked behind two running on extinct platforms. I would fully want sigma over base ninja gaiden. And the trades sigma 2 had were perfectly fine to me. Razors edge was just a mess though, I don’t think any amount of remastering will help that game.
I never knew there was this great of a difference between the two game. I thought it was a pure port. I feel like I wasted my money on the Sigma games. I think that the developers should make both versions available. Disc space shouldn't be an issue, or just do two collections.
no bothered but i would like a new NG instead of this same stuff i already beaten. And plus those same games are on the ps Now.
I have always been a multi-console gamer so I own every edition of the NG games, on multiple platforms. My all-time favorite is NG Black, and NG2. I am fine with the 360 and OG Xbox versions of the games which are back compat and enhanced for the XB and Series consoles, except the 3rd game, but I am excited and will buy the Collection for the Switch as it is awesome to have these games now portable outside of the PSVita.
Will check this out on Xbox BacKcompat
I have Ninja Gaiden 2 for the XB360 I need to play it but I can't wait for this collection to drop I just wish Koei would have thrown the NES games into the mix as well. And made this an ultimate edition with six games instead of three games either way I am still stoked,
I never played any of these games. As long as a physical Switch version is released, I'm getting them for the first time. If no physical Switch version, then PS4 and I'll play em on my PS5
I dunno, i'm a fan, and excited 🤷♂️
