Perfect. DAI is on GP so will give me a good reason to play through again. Got the Plat on PS4 back in the day and this will allow me to continue my "evil" playthrough from the Keep.
Sorry to start a flame war (almost) intentionally! But doesn't ps5 increase frame rates on older games even without patching and updates.
On games with patches and updates from developer then the results can be even better with added effects and/or textures etc.
Some games with unlocked frame rates or ones optimised for ps4 pro will benefit. With or without developer patch.
Some games were programmed to begin with locked to 30fps some at 60fps. If the game was programmed in this manner the ps5 extra horsepower has no effect (except for the following 1.improved loading times, 2. improved wifi, 3. Improved controller HD rumble.)
That last article highlights the mess that is Sony's marketing on this matter. While xbox has gone Ott totally over the top on back compatible advertising sony has glanced it over, done a few good things, left others for later and ignored the public in terms of making it easy to find info on the matter. Yes they have said which games have next gen patches but we're talking about the whole catalogue of ps4 games. Where some get boost mode and some don't. And there's no clear way to find which ones benefit from fps boosting. They have not done themselves any favours with leaving this feature in a confusing and ambiguous state.
I also hear the next gen dashboard is great, bringing many improvements, but has features missing even from ps4, that are much needed.
All in all I think sony are a bit behind in software development of the operating system for users. I imagine it's a mammoth task... And there working really hard .
It took MS 20years to get to windows 10 which is finally a good operating system experience. (Anyone remember windows 7, or dare I say it, the nightmare that was vista)
So much looking forward to getting one on one hand. I've almost saved the £449 it is in the uk. On the other hand I'm not to upset about not being able to obtain one due to shortages because these features do need ironing out.
Hopefully by the time Returnal comes out, April 30th they will be a flood of them hitting markets. ----------------------------- ------------------------------- ------ Good news for xbox about the fps. But the boat sailed on there console years back. While there sales and players is going up slowly, there market value (of xbox brand name) is finished. Not even devalued.. it's not a object of desire. At least here in UK, I know gangs and gangs of people who are not interested it and are switching to ps5. That is, if they haven't already brought a PS4 to play god of war, spiderman, ratchet & clank, wipeout, gtsport, horizon, uncharted or The last of us. Many more smaller games such as detroit become human, days gone, death stranding, Ghost of Tushima and Dreams. etc.
The difference here is that a game on the PS5 that has better FPS than last gen was patched for that or already had uncapped FPS as an option. god of War for example had to be patched to get better performance, and if say the game was multiplat then it would have the same benefits on Xbox that the PS5 got from the patch. Basically the PS5 BC games are as limited as they are on the Pro, just it can hold the performance way better. A game on the pro running between 35-45fps will probably see a lock of 60fps on PS5 since the FPS is already unlocked. But if the game is locked on 30FPS on the Pro with the developers not allowing it to go up, then the PS5 will play those at 30FPS until they are patched otherwise.
This FPS Boost is on a console level, meaning developers don't need to patch a game to see the benefit, unless of course its a game that is having issues working with the feature. So the first batch of games are capped at 30FPS and always will be on PS5 unless they go back in and patch them, The FPS Boost tries to work around that limitation. IDK how exactly, but it does.
I know people don't care much about BC here, but I do think this is a really cool feature nonetheless from MS. I wouldn't mind if Sony looked into adding a similar mode. Just give me Bloodborne at 60FPS already!!
I would like to know which locked game is being “boosted” without developer’s patching it, because its possible that this is just another PR phrase invented by MS. If memory serves MS’s PR arm is not a stranger to such techniques like when they implied that the AI in MS games were doing something different from what others were also doing, among other examples that I dont recall right now.
@S2Killinit literally the first batch of supported titles. they may be patching something on their end (MS) but thats implements on a system level still
The games you are referring to were games that were uncapped on last gen or couldn’t hit their target frame rate consistently - these games benefit from the improved power of the PS5.
Games that were capped at 30 will not magically start working at 60 without a patch from the developer or some emulation magic like MS has done.
“ While there sales and players is going up slowly, there market value (of xbox brand name) is finished. Not even devalued.. it's not a object of desire.”
You kinda contradict yourself here - if the sales and player count are going up, then the market value is too and the item is an object of desire. The fact they’ve sold millions and are sold out confirms the desire part.
Unlocked framerates being able to now run locked 60 because of new hardware and locked 30 framerate games running at 60 or 120 on new hardware without dev input are 2 different things.
And nobody will use this. Who cares about old games running at higher frames, beside some great titles? A masterpiece like gow! Yes. Now crappy platforms? And other stuff? Really. Microsoft is wasting resources on this. Bc is cool, having more frames is nice, but Just in a small number of amazing games. That You May want to play again. And the number is small. What gamers want are new experiences that show the power of the New consoles.
I'm a PC gamer who almost always keeps a fairly up to date system. I'm always moving between both new and classic games. I'm currently playing through both the original Deus Ex and Quake 4 right now.
Are they making full use of the power of my PC? Hell no. Am I still having a lot of fun playing these games? Yes, I am.
So do you think MS and Sony should just scrap back compat? Personally I like being able to replay classics like MGS 2/3, silent hill games etc without having to set up the old consoles and hoping they never die etc.
Why wouldn't you want Microsoft or any game publisher to give you a FREE upgrade, if you own the game? I am playing Far Cry 4, and it is great locked at 60fps. It isn't like I had to pay for the upgrade. I already own the game.
there's nothing wrong with an effort to make ur library more playable and timeless ... rather than push people to constantly buy remasters. Sony are doing the same with select titles i don't see you critizing their effort into making GOW or Ghost Of Tsushima run at 60fps... I own both systems and i dont there's any reasons to dislike the effort of the opposing platform if anything it should push sony to try to offer similar value
nice play from Microsoft compensating lazy developers. Because let's be clear, unlocking fps and higher resolution is not a difficult task for the vast majority of games out there.
They are announcing new titles monthly. Also they are free patches. Upgrading games I have owned for years, and for free? Yes please! Playing Far Cry 4 again, but now at 60fps. So much better!
Playing Far Cry 4, Valhalla, and Legion, and COD. I can switch between 3 games in just a few seconds. COD doesn't usually 'quick resume'. Microsoft is offering a lot with Series X.
I like Far Cry 4, and now am revisiting it, because it runs at 60fps. They don't have to update older games, but doing it for free?!? I will take it. My backlog of last gen games is pretty large. Including Far Cry 4.
Of course I want new games, but I am not going to complain if my last gen games get a current gen boost free!

Are they really listening to individuals? Cause It seems like every request I wrote in the survey becomes reality.
