They look great, but why would anyone continue to buy joycons? They have to fix the drift or a lot of us will keep buying third party.

Exactly. My left and my right both went out this week.

Thats the equivalent of saying why buy any control from any console manufacturer.

I’m not sure if you are aware, but Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony all use the exact same part from the same supplier in their controller.

And if I had to guess, a lot of third party controllers probably are using it too.

There is a good recent video from iFixIt that explains a lot about the issue

Nintendo used the same part in its pro controller according to iFixIt.

Just read the article to make sure. They don't mention joycons using that same part.

Well, the joy cons are definitely using a smaller part because they dont have the depth of a standard controller.

Still, the point is the same, all controllers are prone to drift because they are all using the same of the shelf joystick components for which these issues is a known and expected situation.

The probability of a third party controller (which are usually cheaper) using a more sophisticated and therefore more expensive part cant be that high, though I guess replacing a cheaper controller is still better overall.

The best course of action in this case is this kind of lawsuits, which will show that these companies are including parts in their controllers that have a known life expectancy that is lower than the console lifecycle

The official product costs $100CAD too, which is ridiculous. Plus, there are some great custom controllers out there, and even more options for skins and shells if you just want to change up the aesthetics of ones you already own. If you want Skyward Sword themed Joycons, there are probably much more affordable alternatives.

Mine are still good since 2018 but I bought the pro controller so using that instead, it's so much better.

The pro controller is excellent it has to be said. I much preferred using that over the JoyCons

Indeed I love it. Feels so much better in the hand. I also use it for my Raspberry Pi emulation console I put together 😁

I had just bought the Pro controller yesterday and I have to say it is one of the best controllers out there. However, the back of the controller feels and looks plasticky compared to the Dualsense and Xbox controller.

Both sets of joycons I have had since launch still work great. They started to drift once last year, but I cleaned them with 99% isopropyl alcohol and they have been like new ever since.
