In a perfect world, Pet Pals: Animal Doctor would have been a great game. The game sounds promising on paper, taking the hands-on surgery mechanics of the Trauma Center series and replacing the ailing human patients with distressed animals. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world and Pet Pals is most definitely not a great game. Try as it might, the game is ultimately dragged down by horrible voice acting, rigid and inconsistent mechanics, and one of the worst graphical engines to ever grace Nintendo's home console.
Though undeniably aimed at young girls, Pet Pals: Animal Doctor isn't the typical money-spinning software you may be expecting. Taking it's mark directly from the Trauma Center titles, the game is a complex mix of memory and speed challenges.
Pet Pals: Animal Doctor for Wii puts the player into the responsible role of a young, warm-hearted and ambitious veterinarian. For the first time, players of all ages can bring the operating table right into their living room and enjoy a unique gaming experience. The Wii Remote simulates real veterinary tools as you use them to treat thirty different cases, ranging from minor ailments such as sunburn to severe injuries like broken limbs. Gamers will playfully learn to deal with responsibility, as they interact with animals in a virtual environment. Step in and have fun healing your favourite pets!
Mygamer writes: "Pet Pals: Animal Doctor sets the player in the role of a newly arrived Vet to a short staffed animal clinic. From this moment on, the player is expected to cure every single sick animal that comes into the clinic, regardless of the pet or case. While this sounds like a solid enough idea, the game loses entertaining qualities with long load times, poor learning curve, dated graphics, and poor controls."
