Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Review - IGN

Two solid platformers in one; neither of which approaches the franchise's most dizzying heights.

BattleCat1583d ago (Edited 1583d ago )

Yes on the Wiiu, here again the same not.

_SilverHawk_1583d ago

What's the price for this game?

bouzebbal1583d ago

Silver

Full price 👌🏽

-Foxtrot1583d ago

Why? Because it’s Nintendo?

Got to love that mindset

DefaultComment1583d ago

You STFU, you are not exactly one to talk sconsidering how toxic you are to this website. But ya know what, I do believe a 7 is an apropiate score, I don't brown nose nintendo, a good game gets the praise it gets and a average gets what it gets. The same goes for garbage games.

-Foxtrot1583d ago

Awwww did I upset you?

Toxic? Lol because you don’t agree with my opinions

That’s not toxic, that’s you can’t handle any other opinion other than your own.

phoenixwing1583d ago (Edited 1583d ago )

Have to agree with foxtrot that he's just opinionated (don't see eye to eye on his resident evil rants lol). Default is defense force material though.

If I had to choose who's more toxic it's easily default

1583d ago
-Foxtrot1583d ago

@phoenixwing

Exactly...and you might not agree with me BUT I wouldn't hold it against you unless you were being immature, going off topic or speaking to me like shit.

I know people have this thing on here where they hold onto grudges and have to target every post made by that user even when it wasn't provoked but each article is a complete refresh from the previous one.

Neonridr1582d ago

how about because it's a good game? Re-releasing something shouldn't change it's score unless it's a worse off game as a result. Considering the visual improvements along with the added online multiplayer and Bowser's Fury, I'd love someone to explain why it's now getting a lower score than when it first came along.

I agree, definitely an 8 or 9 if it is exactly like the original. Disappointed in you IGN, this is one of Mario's finest and very fun with friends.

Teflon021582d ago

Same game full price and a Bowser mode that's repetitive and tedious? Sounds like that mode and the price automatically hurt that score. After how other games get rated sometimes i don't mind seeing IGN actually rating a Nintendo mario platformer like any other game

Neonridr1582d ago

@Teflon02 - spoken like someone who has never even played the new mode to actually judge for themselves.

roadkillers1580d ago

That's fair, but I'm willing to pay full price for a great split screen co-op game.

I have had this preorderd since christmas. My 6 year old LOVES mario 3d world and won't stop talking about this game. He often says. "Hey Daddy, let's talk about Mario 3D world Bower's Fury." I am pretty sick of it lol. He is so excited for this release. He played through 3D world on the Wii U again since christmas. He can't wait for this game. That said I am not as excited. I have been watching a few reviews and it keeps being touted as not as good as it was. It's not the game but our taste for Mario that has changed since this initial release. That said I really don't like the idea of bowser coming to life like a possessed monster every few minutes to interrupt the gameplay. Just sounds annoying. I don't have to worry though because my kid will just play the entire thing without me anyway. Still, I was looking forward to that part of the game at least so I am hoping it will be fun.

Is it possible for a second player to play bowser jr during gameplay or just mario?

No 2p support on pretty much the best multiplayer mario ever put out would be kinda sad. I have replayed all the wii and wii U Marios in the last year. I play Mario Maker 2 with him multiplayering the levels all the time. It is horrible most of the time and I really find player created levels are not very good at all. IMO Mario Maker has been a disappointment. Though I enjoy Mario 35. My 6 year old has collected over 600 moons in Mario Odyssey now which is higher than I did when I played through it. I found most of the moons to be uninspired to collect after a certain point in the game it just felt like I was done. He plays it every single morning happy to collect 1 or 2 moons a day.

I guess for myself I am not buying this game for me to play but to watch my son enjoy Mario now the same way I did when I was 4 and got to the first flag in SMB on the NES.

Agent751583d ago

Super Mario All Stars on the Super Nintendo and Wii is a bit of a forgotten classic.

Nebaku1583d ago

Does your six year old format your posts too?

Zeldafan641583d ago

Most player created levels aren't that great but about 2-3% are amazing. With 10s of millions of levels created that equates to hundreds of thousands of genius levels.

Agent751583d ago

It’s yet another Wii U port with a bit extra to justify the £50 launch price. The Switch has been out long enough to warrant a new Mario 3D World, more so a new Mario Kart, the current being another Wii U port. No Wave Race, Pilotwings or F-Zero either. But Nintendo fans always take the bait.

Nyxus1583d ago

I still find it a bit crazy that these Wii U ports release at a higher price than the originals when they first came out. I know they added some extras, but still. I mean, this is an 8 year old game at this point, why is it full price?

ecchiless1583d ago

mostly cause they can ask for that price and their fans gonna pay.... but you gonna see those same fans crying and saying that is anti consumer if other game company/console do the same.

Neonridr1583d ago

why was The Last of Us full price when it re-released for PS4? Because they can charge what they want.

badz1491582d ago

@Neon

You are wrong on TLoU. They did try to charge $60 seeing as it was just under a year old at the time of release but there was quite a backlash and they reduced the price to $50 and refunded the extra $10 for those already paid the full price.

So...have Nintendo done that yet for ALL or any of its remasters that they sell for higher price than when they launched them on Wii U?

You Nintendo fanboys should just shut up and continue to bend over for your lord Nintendo when the adults are talking about these ridiculous Nintendo tax. Nintendo is a huge scumbag when it comes to pricing and no amount of deflection can convince people otherwise.

Neonridr1582d ago

@badz149 - I never got a refund. I paid full price for this game when it came out for the PS4.

I've stopped being suckered in. I am burnt out from Mario series in general right now... Some Wave Race and F-Zero would get me interested again. But I am all plumbered out.

ScootaKuH1583d ago

All looks a bit.. meh.

Getting really bored of Nintendo games now

Adnanilyas211583d ago

Good for you. Not sure the need of your comment.

ScootaKuH1583d ago (Edited 1583d ago )

It's a free world, therefore I'll comment. At least mine was relevant to the actual topic, unlike yours.

That's ok, they aren't for everyone. I play them because they are fun. Not because they look flashy. But I grew up on a Colecovision where you had to use your imagination half the time to play a game and understand what was going on.

To each their own.

Super Mario Odyssey Turns Seven - Ranking the 3D Mario Games

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "With the Switch getting on in years and the prospect of a new Nintendo console growing closer, now seems like an excellent time to take a look back at one of its mascot’s two big evolutionary lines, particularly since we now find ourselves in the longest wait ever between 3D Mario games. Today marks the seven year anniversary for the release of Super Mario Odyssey, and with no full new entry in sight, it comfortably beats the roughly six year wait between Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, which should also be good news to anybody who broke a mirror that day.

3D Mario has delighted fans since 1996, maintaining an astonishing level of quality and bringing innovations not just to the 3D platformer genre, but gaming as a whole. Needless to say, it’s a hard task to rank a series where every entry is beloved, but I shall nevertheless undertake this risky venture with my head held high. Wish me luck."

has it rly been 7 years already?

fk me.

Cacabunga227d ago (Edited 227d ago )

One of the worst marios.. i hated the fact it was only about finding the moons and very repetitive with the same bosses. There is no exploration in this one.
Galaxy 2 is still unmatched

TiredGamer227d ago

I played, completed, and enjoyed Mario Odyssey, but I tend to agree that I don't think it's the best 3D Mario. There was sense of sameness that prevailed after the first couple of worlds... not in the levels, environments, or aesthetics, but in the routine of each world. It just felt like each new environment was just the beginning of another checklist of moons to acquire, and the sheer number of them took away the sense of accomplishment I got from the stars in Mario 64 and the like. I can't exactly put my finger on why that is. Galaxy gets my nod as the best one.

Cacabunga227d ago

I enjoyed it too but i won’t even place it in my top10 mario games.. as you said you are just looking for stars and that irritating music everytime you find one.
Also the bosses are pretty much the same from begging to end. I would have have like some koopalings instead of these dumb useless rabbits

Chocoburger227d ago

I played a little of this game and freakin' LOVED it! But I forced myself to stop because I hadn't played Galaxy 2, which I've been playing every day for the past week. Cripes, Galaxy 2 is way better than I expected it to be! Even though I dislike the Wiimote and nunchuck controls, and it annoyed me a lot with Galaxy 1, part 2 just feels better and slightly less gimmicky when it comes to the controls.

Profchaos227d ago

Sunshine at number 7 no way. I get it's not perfect but it deserves better to date there has not been another 3d Mario that's managed to capture that same movement it's the most acrobatic feeling Mario to date.

It's by and large better than 3d land/world and I'd argue that galaxy 2 didn't offer any trie innovation it was essentially a DLC pack to 1

Personally it's
1) Mario 64
2) Mario Sunshine
3) Mario galaxy
4) Mario Odyssey
5) galaxy 2
6) Bowser fury
7) 3d land/ world.
