We've got detailed coverage of both Nioh and Nioh 2 here, including a breakdown of how the 4K, PS5 'quality' and 120Hz modes work on both titles - plus of course, we stack it all up against the same games running on PlayStation 4 Pro."

Love the part where John says they’re going to keep raising this VRR point until it’s patched into PS5.

Sony needs to patch VRR support and announce compatible internal SSDs.

Destiny10801174d ago

there's a big update in march as far as i know

Pricey1174d ago

Are they that arrogant that they think Sony jump every time they ask for something. It's been mentioned it's coming in a patch, it also been mentioned that it's not a trivial addition. Patience is all that's required, it's not like they've had to wait a year or more.

Keep highlighting it but it won't make them rush it out of the door.

Jin_Sakai1174d ago

The point is that not having VRR is ridiculous. Especially considering we have 120fps games with drops. Series X has it and there’s no reason PS5 shouldn’t.

Pricey1174d ago

And it will have it. It's not ridiculous, few games offer 120fps and the percentage of users that have TVs that support it is relatively small.

I'm not arguing that it's not a great feature. I look forward to the patch for sure. The point I am making is that given it's been promised in a patch, mentioning it constantly isn't going to make the Devs work any faster to get it out. Pretending they're some crusader fighting for consumers doesn't wash with me on this. It just looks like virtue signaling.

Army_of_Darkness1174d ago

@Jin "Series X has it and there’s no reason PS5 shouldn’t."

Ps5 is already getting plenty of exclusive games this year, so there's no reason why the series X shouldn't... Did I use your statement correct?....

PersonMan1174d ago

I really really really really really really hope VRR will work on FreeSync compatible displays and TV's but I not going to hold my breath. They'll probably only support HDMI 2.1 TVs sadly. I know XBox can use FreeSync displays, but Sony rarely does anything like Microsoft.

KingofBandits1174d ago

XSX may have VRR at launch but it also has a fixed 1080p interface and non native HDR. Both consoles have a few tech omissions but I'm sure the fix is coming. Again this feature while important is for an extremely small user base. Only ultra high end TV's really support VRR (that I have seen) and while there are more affordable ones now I'd bet a decent chunk of PS5's are still connected to non 60hz 1080p TV's let alone 4K 120hz ones.

blackblades1173d ago

He must said that after I went to the channel last video and said "These guys are so penetrated by MS that they have once again bring up VRR and MS. How many time they gonna have to mention VRR"

It's a shame this game isn't on Xbox.

I'd love to hear Digital Foundry's fawning coverage of the higher frame rate specifically during stance switches.

DarXyde1174d ago

Just in case it isn't painfully obvious (this being the internet and people being thoroughbred muppets and all), this is a joke where I'm taking shots at Digital Foundry's weird fawning praise of the Series X's handling of Control Ultimate Edition's photo mode.

At the time of me writing this, someone downvoted me and I want to be sure that if you did, you're not misunderstanding what I said. It may be the case that I need to put training wheels on my most obvious instances of sarcasm.

Mr_Luke1174d ago

Someone didn't understand you were joking :D
Sense of humor doesn't live on N4G :(

Kornholic1174d ago (Edited 1174d ago )

Yes, it's quite clear that DF has a weird XSX bias. When it's doing better than PS5, it's highlighted in the video title, for example.

Bnet3431173d ago

LMAO uh huh. OKay... Who cares Go work on Ninja Gaiden 4 which is more important ;)

bunt-custardly468d ago

Nioh games definitely up there at the top alongside Ninja Gaiden BLK.

LoveSpuds467d ago

There is a decent fan base for the Nioh games, but still think they are criminally overlooked and under appreciated.

I just bought the PS5 collection to replay them again with all their DLC, a sweet collection for my games shelf for sure.

Yea, those gardens haven't been plowed in over 10 years now though. Imagine if they cultivated it, let it grow again.

Starman69467d ago

Amazing what ya can do with a samurai sword lol 🤣

tehpees3468d ago

The honourable mention though.

TheSenorCheese468d ago

originally it wasn't going to be included because of their take on Samus' character. But the gameplay's actually not bad.

Vits467d ago

Honestly, I don't know if we can even blame them for that take. Nintendo's Sakamoto was credited as the writer and from what we learned later with the Retro Studios interviews for the Prime series, Nintendo apparently never saw Samus as this stoic badass that most of the west imagined her as. Going as far as describing her as "motherly".

shinoff2183468d ago

Ninja Gaiden was dope but I don't really care for alot of their games.

I had a great time in both and I hope in the next couple years we see a Nioh 3.

Thundercat771094d ago

I'm so happy to hear that because that means they will continue developing amazing games like that.

Nioh is such a great game. I love the series.

The Nioh Collection Review - Not-at-All Impressive Graphics, But an Impressive Collection | Zyro-EG

Jason says, "This was my first venture into the Nioh series. And it wasn’t hard for me to quickly surmise that Nioh is essentially a hybridization between the hyper-active speed of Ninja Gaiden with the difficulty of Souls. But of course, the core question is if this actually pans out."

fonduktoe1149d ago

I disagree completely. Game is gorgeous in addition to being packed with content and snare drum tight gameplay. Amazing series.

ZyroXZ21149d ago

Considering I showed the 10ft shadow draw distance, 240p shadows, poor lighting engine at work, and low level of detail (moreso in Nioh 1), I'm not entirely sure what game you were looking at lol... I didn't have enough time to even show the object pop-in in Nioh 2, favoring the time towards talking about the story!
