Great I will ignore all overwatch and diablo this year.

senorfartcushion1590d ago

Good cba with the $60 free-to-play games

Or $70 after the unjustified AAA price-hike.

TechnoGoat1589d ago

A... who ever said OW was F2P you want it to be, but it isn't..

B.. 70 for a game is fine, the cost of development gets higher all the time..

senorfartcushion1589d ago (Edited 1589d ago )

Then lower the cost of the development. This excuse has been debunked by outlets all over the world.

The example I like to use is the Control Vs Ant-Man example.

Control has a budget of around 50 million dollars. That was enough to pump out a triple-A action game with things like mocap, live action footage, experimental game design tech, that type of thing. Control has sold upwards of two million copies, thus earning the right to produce “another “ version of the game, this time with the dlc included. Two million x $60 minus what you’d pay to all the companies taking their cuts = a lot of money.

Now in the film world things are different: Ant-Man cost around 140 million to produce with around 50% of that budget being used for marketing on top of this. The film cost nearly 3x more than Control did to make and only grossed north of 600 million dollars worldwide, and this is before the cinema chains took their shares of the profits (around 1/3rd of the overall gross)

Now that is a significantly lower amount of money.

Now how come triple-A games have to act this way when blockbuster movies don’t?

Don’t listen to the lies being blurted out to you by companies who only profit from your complacency. Triple-A games are overly expensive and this is excluding how many free marketing opportunities other companies are starting to provide (Fortnite being one of those companies)

Developers themselves know dev time can be cut down massively with AI and machine learning, neural networks in all that jazz. Check out the GDC youtube, there are tons of talks on development and in particular how to improve it overall. The talk on how Insomniac made Spider-Man shows this stuff is just the tip of the iceberg. ND really might not have needed 2500 people to work on TLOU2. And hopefully in he future devs will have the tools to make the things they want to make, not just outsource their work constantly.

Overwatch is not even close to f2p, that you are used to the likes of Evolve etc doesnt mean every mp shooter has to go f2p. You can say what you want but overwatch is objectively a solid, polished game. It has character, free updates (although I kind of expected more maps/modes out of it), constant balancing, new characters, a great lead dev whos actually involved in the community.

Its also easy to get the skins you want, once you played for a while you can just choose which skin to get with the points you get. I haven't spend any money and got all the skins besides for a couple event related ones when i wasnt playing.

I think i bought it for 30-40 for pc and its one of the best purchases I ever made, ive gotten so much fun out of it and OW is quickly becoming my favorite blizz game.

senorfartcushion1589d ago

Free to play games can also be solid and polished.

Also don’t say objectively solid, it doesn’t make sense, you can’t just throw objectively in there, expect to fatten your sentences up and get away with it. Solid = opinion, therefore objectivity is absent.

Smellsforfree1589d ago

Most mp games have to be free because the games need to have players in them to function correctly. Blizzard knew they would have the players, regardless. I'm fine with paying devs and I'm also fine with f2p games so long as it isn't pay-to-win.

Michiel19891589d ago

i think how the game plays and how polished it is, that we can say its objectively solid. That doesnt mean you have to like it, or how they handle skins or what have you. Thats a different subject.

There is a lot of games which i dont play or dont like from which I can say they are good solid games regardless of how much I enjoy them. Also i never said f2p games cant be polished or solid, i play a lot of dota2 and thats also f2p.

Overwatch 1 has been tremendous value for around 40€ for me. I've spent more quality time with that game than with any other last gen game. I'm happy to pay full price of the sequel.

senorfartcushion1589d ago

I don’t care about what one person values lol

Elda1589d ago

6 years until Overwatch 2.

ARESWARLORD1589d ago

They're definitely taking their sweet time with this one

Michiel19891589d ago

Overwatch 1 was in development for wayyy longer, it was originally an MMO named Project Titan and it evolved into overwatch. The long development paid off though, I think OW was their most succesful launch ever?
