If you own the game on PS4, you'll probably be disappointed by the lack of improvements for Milestone's RIDE 4 on the PlayStation 5.
Digital Foundry : Is this truly "4 real" as the tagline says? Last week, a video of motorbiking sim Ride 4 went viral - with many millions of Twitter and YouTube views on an upload by YouTuber Joy of Gaming. On the face of it, it's easy to see why, when you consider the beautiful, dynamic, near photo-realistic footage playing out in first-person 'helmet' view. Based on Unreal Engine 4, the combination of the camera, physics, motion blur, lighting and materials all impress - but to what extent does it push back the boundaries or rendering technology. Does the game live up to the hype, or have we seen it all before with DriveClub Bikes?
the only reason this game got any attention was because of Joy Of Gaming's first person replay video
The developers of the PS5 motorcycle racing that became a viral sensation for being freaky realistic are happy for the recognition – but they aren't done yet.
Sales increase because of that one video and articles about it. Only if other games can get a spotlight like that.
And then you hear or see the millionth comment saying "Graphics don't matter."
Game has already been out for PC and isn't as good as the video makes it out to be.
totally sick. i wonder if they'll also support the PSVR2 when it's available, cause this would be perfect for it.
Can anyone verify if it's legit? I mean the game is out and has been for a while does it really look that good?
I have it and confirm it looks the same in the same track and weather conditions on my lg oled
Whoever downvoted my question.

Go there and select which platform you want it on. I only ask because its being presented as a PS5 only game.
If they were smart, they’d enable that replay view during real gameplay. The bouncing would have little to no negative effect on people wanting to experience those graphics while actually playing.
I concur. The camera movement actually sells whole video for me. I would love to play like this as it's very close to the real thing. Ultimate immersion. They definitely should do it, and I think they will actually. This video has a lot of traction and people seem disappointed when they hear it's just replay camera.
The amount of rubbish to go through before finding the damn clip.... And it doesn't look realistic at all, just looks like a normal PS4 game. Clickbait!
Looks good but ain't nothing special. Been seen these visuals on PC for years, with ray tracing as well.
https://www.youtube.com/wat... Ride 4
https://www.youtube.com/wat... RDR2 8K + ray tracing. Doesn't get any better than this at the moment.
Went back and watched other videos of the game. Meh! It looks good, but that video is slightly deceiving
I have NEVER seen a game look THAT real! Definitely picking this game up eventhough I am not a racing fan :D
If you've been looking for a game to show off the graphical power of the PS5, Ride 4 looks amazing.
Could be mind-blowing in VR. Sony have said they're doing a massive push on 'hybrid' games (flat and VR), like Hitman 3, GT Sport and Resident Evil 7.
I wouldn't bet against something like Ride 4 getting a day one patch at PSVR2 launch.
Looks decent. Racing games with fixed tracks always should look the best, and historically have represented the best graphics of each generation. Although lately they have fallen out of favor.
Looks really good but game also coming to PC Xbox series The title make it sound like game is exclusive to ps5 even in the tags he mention only one system ps5 lol
Yea, true ... saw few PC 4K videos after this one. Actually it looks more convincing when the rain effects get turned on during the race. On a bright daylight setting it looks just ok.
From that screencap not so much. TLOU2 looks more realistic. So does Watch Dogs Legion.
Neither of those games are even trying to look realistic. They have heavy art focus. High quality visuals isn't necessarily tantamount to realism.
I think they both were going for realism. It's just that it's harder with people not in helmets. 🙄
The best looking, most detailed AAA games out there like TLOU2 and RDR2, while incredible looking, don't literally look real. They can't fool your mind.
I have to say, this footage is insane. Very convincing. I wonder if the illusion is maintained when you crash.
EDIT: at 3:47, it still looks mostly real when he crashes besides the human ragdoll clipping the bike.
The lack of any sort of motion blur makes this look very video gamey and thus very fake.
@Magog, because nothing screams real life like motion blur.
“makes this look very gamey” you don’t say!
Find it hard to believe you truly believe that. The lighting and weather effects alone in this vid are insane. Don’t get me wrong tlou looks great, super rich detailed environments that are pretty much unmatched anywhere, but it still has a somewhat cg style (I don’t know how to describe it). But this looks so real. At least it does on my phone screen, I’ll be hunting for this in 4K on you tube to watch on the tv later
When paused it doesn't look that impressive. In motion it looks very realistic(excluding the bike).
Granted I’m looking off my phone but if you didn’t tell me that was a game I’d think I’m looking at go-pro footage.
Looks great! It is also coming to Series S/X though. The new Gen update drops January 21st.
Good to know. Gonna pick this up on series x. Looks great. Ps5 is gonna have some great looking games this gen!
"try dropping the quality down to 144P and try to tell me it doesn’t look like real-life"
What?
It means that the lighting, reflections and other details are so good that at lower resolutions it is indistinguishable from actual video footage.
That actually does count for something.
I saw this on YouTube 2 days ago and I'm fucking impress. You can feel the velocity on your skin.
Even if you don't play racing games, you have to appreciate how well some of them nail the graphics.
Man imagine this with the psvr! Would be freaking wicked. Especially with the duelsense to where you feel every switch of the gear and feel how the bike slips in the rain would be epic
Already been confirmed as not gameplay. Like the upcoming GT. These graphics and animations are only available in the replays. Lighting effects and reflections etc will not be present in actual gameplay.
Looks quite good, but the fact that I went into this looking for flaws (thanks, headline!) cheapens it a bit for me.
If we're talking about realism, there are three things that bother me: the look of the bike itself, the windshield, and the mirrors.
The bike display looks pretty flat and remains miraculously dry. I don't care personally, but we've literally gone into this talking about realism... So yeah.
The windshield doesn't seem to warp imagery at all compared to the road itself. Usually, looking into a windshield distorts the outside world in some way (e.g., tint or the road appears to be zoomed in a little. It was a 1:1 portrayal which is odd on a motorcycle.
The side mirrors appear to show other bikers accurately, but where's the rain collecting on them?
I only mention these things because realism is about more than graphics. It LOOKS better than a game like, say, Uncharted 4, but the world in Uncharted 4 reacts more realistically. Good examples are the muscle strain when Nate hangs with one hand and points with the other or the slash marks in the sword fight.
So for me, I would say... Define "most realistic looking".
I think the visual fidelity is excellent, but I'm still not convinced that it appropriately meets expectations for realism.
But that's just me.
For me, it's the screen itself. There's light droplet effects build up on the bike/visor but not on screen??? Player is wearing a helmet like the other bikers, right? Like other racers, maybe there's an option which this demo isn't using. Everything else is great especially the sound effects of the wind and hearing the slippery road when breaking.
There's always the person that can't just give credit where it's due. Willing to tear down yet has built nothing. Calm it down, champ, wouldn't want the community to go thinking that you could do better.
"There's always the person that can't just give credit where it's due."
Except I did. I pointed out it looks great already. That was, quite literally, me giving credit where it is due: on its visual fidelity. This is an article talking very particularly about the game's realism. I made no comments about gameplay, and focused specifically on realism, which is beyond graphics.
"Willing to tear down yet has built nothing."
What are you going on about? Tearing it down would be me not saying anything constructive. I'm pointing out where it can improve. Very constructive, actually. Side note: don't assume I've built nothing. In my life, I've never built a game, but I would argue that the work I've done in my life is far more important than a game. 😉
"Calm it down, champ, wouldn't want the community to go thinking that you could do better."
Never said I could. And I don't think there's a soul on this site who would believe that I thought so. If you did, you've got bigger problems than a fair comment about the level of realism.
Just because I'm not giving fawning praise doesn't mean I don't think it looks great. My comment is a critique, not a criticism. It's quite constructive where I am identifying exactly what could improve realism. If I just said, "it looks terrible! Trash! Have fun with your terrible game that looks bad lololol" you would have a point. I didn't.
If you disagree, fine. But know that you're wrong in your evaluation of my comment.
And if you don't understand any part of this...I don't care enough to reply again, mate. 🙂
It looks pretty great, at a glance you wouldn't realize it was a game, but if I look for at least a few seconds or more, you start to see the less realistic parts. The environment looks like a photo/video, but I agree the bike itself doesn't look as convincing, I still think this is fantastic though.
The roads and water effect is really good, the other racer models aren't quite on the same level, but still look quite good.
Saw this yesterday. Not to start a war but how PC players can laugh at PS5 graphics when it's capable of this. This is probably the most lifelike game I've ever seen.. if you turn the video quality down it's indistinguishable from real life
This game would benefit with VR. I ride a cruiser and a sports bike and this looks awesome. Can't say about the physics though. Moving so fast at high speed like that isn't that realistic unless you can overcome the g force and wind.
Otherwise, this game looks stunning.
It's not more real looking than flight simulator. Sorry. It may be more fun or a better game, but it doesn't look better.
While racing games are among the easiest games to make look real, flight simulators are even easier
I am kind of blown away to be honest, sure the bike stands out but the environments look so good it makes the bike stand out.. the environments have such a realistic art style to them, they look pre rendered
It's not an "art style". Those environments are real, as in, it actually exists as a real place in real life. This is not a made up track or road.
to the ppl disagreeing w/ my comment:
go to the Ride website. It spells it out "Ride 4 is now available for next gen consoles" and specifically lists not only all of the next gen consoles but also has a list of all the platforms the regular version is available for...
in 2021, people hate facts.
Nice graphics but boring game.. now if this were Road Rash or a new ESPN Extreme Games then we're talkin'
If someone told me this was just GoPro footage of a motorcycle race, I would believe them.
Wouldn't quite go that far as the form of the other riders while turning is way off. Just a little too stiff. This is definitely a good looking game though.
I'm not a fanboy, I just have PC and play games only on PC. I'm a gamer over 25 years, and this is the first time that I thought the a video was fake (first impression), it was looking too realistic.
This gameplay video is not real. It's graphics looks too damn convincing to be real actual gameplay. I don't believe it's gameplay at all.
You never seen and PC games with reshade + ray tracing? 😮 YouTube GTA V ultra realistic PC mod is one example 😁
When you say ever your including everything, console, PC etc. On PS5 probably, just don't include the PC , here reshade + ray tracing mod https://youtu.be/U4cJfxs5xW... This looks really damn good.
Welcome to PC 2020. Yeah, that game came out on PC a year ago and looked just as good. Same stage, same rainy conditions.
https://www.youtube.com/wat...
I recognised that road straight away having been on it in real life many times. It's the north coast road in Portrush in Ireland at the North West 200 race. Can't believe that looks this good and that its actually in a game.
I don’t think it looks as great and realistic as Driveclub Bikes. There’s a 1080p clip of that game on youtube, in the rain (similar conditions as the video here, bit more stormy), and the raindroplets/effects are just more imoressive, as is the general track/level design. Again, IMO.
That game was so far ahead of its time, TBH.
They nailed the lighting on this game and this environment. When I'm watching the video in 360p resolution and immediately it looks real, they accomplished it. It doesn't matter as much if the game has a ton of polygon counts in 4k, if the lighting, shadows, and colors are off, it won't look real
Wow, I'm always impressed by how far video games graphics have evolved since the Atari 2600.
Like many said I can only dream about playing this in VR (and until then well I still have Wipeout).
Quick question Am I the only one who loves looking at these evolution videos on youtube or historical documentaries?
https://youtu.be/IsPPWWlV-T...
Honestly, this should not have been approved, without Series S/X in its title! This is not a PS5 exclusive!
Damn they even took the time to make the brake fluid move around.
Looks good - this and Flight Sim are the best looking things I've seen on next-gen so far.
Hearing this has been on PC for some time now and is not a PS5 exclusive game. And this is PC video too?
The track and background looks great, we are getting close to photorealism now for sure BUT the bike itself still looks very videogame-y. It just feels out of place, almost cartoonish in comparison to the surroundings.
Sheesh, it is the t!ts, you aint lyin.....
My mind immediately started thinking about psvr2 and hoping this gets a patch
Wait, but this game is on multiple platforms, and it should look as good as possible as it is not open world. They should get the most out of the visuals on fixed tracks. I rented some months ago. Thought it was okay, but not a keeper for me.
