Control: UE On PS5 Features A Much Newer Engine And You Won't Be Able To Use Your PS4 Save Data

Control Ultimate Edition PS5 won't be able to use your PS4 save data as the game is utilising a much newer version of the Northlight Engine.

isarai1603d ago

I loved the quickly loathed playing it on PS4. The checkpoints, loading screens, and map are all just so damn frustrating to deal with. If this can at least get loading screens comparable to other PS5 titles, i think i'll fall back in love with this game. Here's hoping 🤞

darthv721603d ago

I play it on the One X, it isnt that bad. I quite enjoy this game. Very creepy at times. I understand the newer engine wont allow for save transfers so Im good with using my existing copy.

Concertoine1602d ago

One X was the only last gen console that was acceptable.

The map was confusing, but I enjoyed getting lost in a game for once.

SullysCigar1603d ago

"I think i'll fall back in love with this game"

Hope so - if all those factors don't do it, the DualSense features just might!

Neonridr1603d ago

what features do we get for the dualsense on this title? Is there a list somewhere?

SullysCigar1602d ago

^ @Neonridr, there's a separate article I saw earlier.

UnSelf1603d ago

Guess I’m platinuming this bad boy again

P_Bomb1603d ago

That’s too bad. Not going through it again any time soon.

Rocketisleague1602d ago

Once is enough for now..few years mayBe worth a revisit. Before control 2 comes out

talocaca1603d ago

After all the drama about next gen upgrades, this game is available for free on PS Plus this month?!?

I'm here for it since I never bought it, but it seems like a controversy that could have been avoided 🙄

senorfartcushion1603d ago (Edited 1603d ago )

Pre-orders are going to create a new controversy. A lot of ps5 owners have already ordered this edition, and though I don’t personally pre-order, it’s not the customers’ fault that they’ve been screwed over in this way.

northpaws1602d ago

I just bought it 2 weeks ago digitally because of the sale $26 CAD... will see if Sony refund like they did for meneater, Ihaven't downloaded the game yet

Double_O_Revan1602d ago

Seriously. I was annoyed when they announced the only way to get the next gen upgrade was to buy the Ultimate Edition. I had bought the regular version like a week prior to that announcement on sale. Even after they got caught in their own lie of it not being possible to upgrade original versions, I accepted it for what it was. I actually played it via BC on my PS5 and got Plat. It was a great game.

But to find out now that the UE will be on PS+ and has the Dual Sense updates too, that makes me mad. The whole thing just feels like some ploy by execs to squeeze out a few extra bucks from people forcing them to buy the Ultimate Edition. I would've gladly paid like $10 for an upgrade or something at the time. But now I've beaten the game and moved on. I didn't play the DLC. I'd like to go back and do that. But if my PS4 game save cant transfer, then I'm not going to bother. It's a shame a few poor decisions and bad timing on my part really complicated this game.

senorfartcushion1602d ago

It’s been as bad as most terrible controversies, I just wish 505 would get called out on their nonsense.

Watch my dislikes pile up for these comments because it’s related to ps+

LiViNgLeGaCY1603d ago

Oh wow, is it that big of a difference?

rdgneoz31603d ago

You can check it out in under a week, as it's one of the PS+ games for February.

MetroidFREAK211603d ago

I'm waiting until March to get the physical PS5 version of this game. Will be my first time playing it

eh?
They better not mess much with the Max Payne Remake(s)

Yui_Suzumiya210d ago

Yeah but this was announced before the Max Payne Remake after all

LucasRuinedChildhood210d ago (Edited 210d ago )

What does "unlocking some previously released content" actually mean though? I would imagine it should be "previously unreleased content". Bit odd.

DaReapa210d ago

Right. Especially since the Ultimate Edition supposedly contained everything.

raWfodog210d ago

I only played about an hour of Control when I added it to my library back when it was one of the PS+ ‘free’ games. I’ll start it over again after the early 2025 update is dropped. I keep hearing that it’s a good game.

jznrpg210d ago

You can make that statement for any game. It’s called gameplay loop. Not everyone is going to enjoy the same loops but all games are repetitive by nature

RedDevils210d ago

Agree it was very boring game. Could not get into it. Remember me the game I played on PS3 is still better than this.

Chocoburger210d ago

These days "RPG" translates to constantly grinding for experience points, wasting time upgrading gear, and repeatedly collecting resources off the ground.

Please don't be an Ubishit style filler game.

Yui_Suzumiya210d ago

Hopefully it'll be more like Mass Effect

Amplitude210d ago (Edited 210d ago )

Remedy doesn't really make mistakes. It'll be good, I'm sure.

Inverno210d ago

So in other words it's an action game needlessly fluffed out with RPG mechanics and a pointless leveling system. I really enjoy RPGs when they're actually RPGs but modern action games really tire me out when they shoehorn in mechanics they don't need. All this does is make a 20 hour game into a 40 hour game because missions become locked behind level requirements, and enemies become damage sponges. It's not fun, it's tedious.

Remedy is leaving Epic in the dark place to self-publish Control 2

Remedy will self-publish Control 2 as part of a new "strategic cooperation agreement" with Annapurna. A press release accompanying the announcement says Annapurna will provide half of Control 2's development budget, and in return gains the rights to adapt Control and Alan Wake for film and television.

TheNamelessOne292d ago

Devs backing EPIC didn't last long. I just can't understand why ... /s

porkChop292d ago (Edited 292d ago )

This isn't about the store. Epic published the game on all platforms. They want to self publish because they couldn't recoup Alan Wake 2's budget.

Killer2020UK292d ago

...because Epic chose to restrict its PC release to the Epic store and completely restrict it's physical release until later this year.

Vits292d ago

It’s connected, though. They couldn’t recoup the costs because Epic restricted the places and formats where the game could be released, literally removing the biggest PC distribution channels from the equation. And they also sold the game cheaper than a traditional full release, solely to support their statements at the launch of the Epic Games Store that PC games would be cheaper if it weren’t for Steam.

RaidenBlack292d ago

Dang, nice ... Alan Wake II is an amazing game
Can't wait for Control 2 and Max Payne Remakes

DustMan292d ago

Not sure why your getting down voted because you found Alan Wake 2 amazing. I'm in the same boat as you. Can't wait for Control 2 & the Max Payne remakes. Max Payne 1 & 2 were some of my favorite pc games from my early teens lol.

RaidenBlack292d ago

Coz N4G logic.
You cant praise a game if its got no physical release, not releasing on PS etc

isarai292d ago

Maybe this time we'll actually get a day 1 physical release

JEECE292d ago

And hopefully Steam/GOG options on PC.

PS5 Non-Exclusives That Feature Fantastic Haptic Feedback

Sifu, Control, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and others, despite being third-party games, offer best-in-class haptic feedback on the PS5.

CrimsonWing69338d ago

I think the GTA V PS5 upgrade has some impressive haptic feedback and other utilization of the dual sense features.

Like, rain hitting you has a distinct feel, parts of the road do as well, fun fire feels crunchy and different depending on the gun (SMG vs Shotgun, for ex.), but I always get a kick out of the phone conversations coming out of the controller and if you have the lights off in the room and the fuzz is chasing you the controller does a good job of doing the red and blue lights that kind of light up the room and just add to the fun.

LucasRuinedChildhood338d ago

Borderlands 3 makes very good use of the triggers. Each gun feels unique.

chicken_in_the_corn337d ago

One of the best features of the ps5
