They heard everyone loud and clear, smart move ms

Shiken141d ago

I am just glad people were loud enough to be heard. Good on MS for listening to fan feedback.

AnotherGamer141d ago

Just the fact that they were trying in the first place still puzzles me.

UltraNova141d ago

We the gamers won this battle.

fr0sty141d ago

"We tried to rip you off... sorry it didn't work. We'll be more sneaky about nickel and diming you next time."

Gazondaily141d ago

Well done on the Xbox community for rallying together on this. Now if the PlayStation community can do the same to get the increased price of games lowered that would be great.

RauLeCreuset141d ago

Gazondaily, F.K.A. Septic (check the comment history), just had to turn it into a shot at Playstation fans. SMH.

Xbox has really shown their behinds on a few occasions for the one major console manufacturer that has never won a gen, and has, in fact, never managed to sell more home consoles than Playstation's lowest selling. Imagine how they would act if they ever had the success of a PS2, a Wii, a PS4, a Switch. Or if they captured the market with a business model that replaces owning games with paying them a subscription fee to play games.

RazzerRedux141d ago

@Gazondaily

Why are you pretending you were here criticizing MS at all? The only posts you made on this were after they reversed their decision. Suddenly, you are trying to make this narrative into a pro-Xbox community event and trying to shame the PlayStation community at the same time? What a joke. You and that shill of a website.

Gazondaily141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

@razzer

"Why are you pretending you were here criticizing MS at all?"

Lol I dont just frequent this site- I was very vocal on social media and immediately called it out in the strongest terms. its very easy to find that but you're not exactly known for thinking before posting are you?

"What a joke. You and that shill of a website."

LOL says someone who has achieved nothing comparable and just frequents forums. Carry on being a keyboard warrior. Tell me, how is it that you keep getting slapped around even on this site which is Sony fanboy haven?

RazzerRedux141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

You think your silly little wordpress site impresses me? lol....stop pretending you know me or what I've accomplished. You don't.

And no, I'm also not impressed that you waltz in here after the reversal to immediately turn this on PlayStation. You joined the chorus of MS critics for once? About damn time. You are a known quantity on n4g. Rebranding yourself as gazondaily doesn't change that, Septic.

Gazondaily141d ago

"You think your silly little wordpress site impresses me? lol....stop pretending you know me or what I've accomplished. You don't."

LOL! You have accomplished nothing. Either show us or sit there and be quiet (or you know...do what you're good at doing which is to just carry on posting like your opinion matters with naught to show).

Kilua141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

GazOndaily

"LOL says someone who has achieved nothing comparable and just frequents forums. Carry on being a keyboard warrior."

"LOL! You have accomplished nothing."

Harry Potter and the audacity of this bitch.

You think having a website makes you better than other people. Jesus Christ, Gameondaily is a skid mark in the realm of gaming journalism - since you wanted to get cocky here - Im calling it as it is. Look at you trying to act like a big shot after making a completely disingenuous comment. You were rightly called out for your rubbish comment trying to drag Sony down with this. Who the hell do you think you are?

2) If you're the owner of that site coming here acting like you're an elite/better than other people then Im sorry, YOU should bloody well know your Goddamn place. No one here likes you.

Gazondaily141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

@Kilua

Lol now the alts are out to play! Stalking me via DM's wasnt enough eh? The irony that you're talking about journalism. Sit down little kid.

"YOU should bloody well know your Goddamn place with your no name brand."

LOL! 🤡 Who are you?? Haha a bloody alt and cant even show ur main acc? How are you piping up so much?

RazzerRedux141d ago

lol...Septic's triggered. Well, at least his idiotic "I'm a Xbox fanboy/let's make this about PlayStation" agenda was derailed.

Kilua141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

"Lol now the alts are out to play! Stalking me via DM's wasnt enough eh? The irony that you're talking about journalism. Sit down little kid."

Why does it matter if my account is an alt? How do you know if my account is an alt, Who am i? What is my alt account seeing as you know so much? How ironic, because i know your alt account, Septic. And that guy was downright toss.

O, and if anyone wants to know what i sent to him, i just said that i could see through his bullshit after typing this:

"Well done on the Xbox community for rallying together on this. Now if the PlayStation community can do the same to get the increased price of games lowered that would be great.

Im a kid, apparently, but here you are bragging about your piece of garbage website, trying to condescend towards others by acting as if you're better than someone else because of it. Cant stand the likes of you, or your rubbish attitude.

Gazondaily141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

Lol let me get this right. You all got triggered because I gave props to the Xbox community (that alone is a sin on here) for calling this out and said PS should do the same re: pricing.

- Razzer insults me and the site (and apparently im the one who is triggered)
- Razzers is wrong (AGAIN! This is some kind of record surely) about my critique of this
- Razzer cannot point to a single achievement in his life or even something that's comparable. Still waiting on that answer btw (you did exactly what I said you would lol)
- This alt Kilua who made an account 2 weeks ago private messages me with this https://imgur.com/a/YiWEhJi

All this because I made this comment: "Well done on the Xbox community for rallying together on this. Now if the PlayStation community can do the same to get the increased price of games lowered that would be great."

and on a site notoriously staunchly anti-Xbox ?

And Kilua is so blind to his own behaviour he says this:

" a kid, apparently, but here you are bragging about your piece of garbage website, trying to condescend towards others by acting as if you're better than someone else because of it. Cant stand the likes of you, or your rubbish attitude."

My attitude is rubbish? You're quick to chuck insults but when someone slaps you back you take offence?

How about this- how about you lot come debate this with me on camera for everyone to see? Or voice chat if you're shy to show your faces. Your facade will fall away very quickly because its easy type BS on a forum. You up for that? Or you going to recede back to making other excuses?

Donnie81141d ago

Be nice if other companies cared enough to listen about raising the price of games 10$ during a pandemic. Companies that try and charge extra for next gen games are complete trash

RauLeCreuset141d ago

"How ironic, because i know your alt account, Septic."

That's not an alt account. It's the Septic account rebranded. You can see the comment history is Septic's.

DarXyde141d ago

Gazondaily,

Take a chill pill, lad. It's not that serious. You can praise Microsoft, I just don't think they deserve it. You are more than welcome to disagree. Apparently, that's why we have these message boards - to share our thoughts.

To your point about game pricing from Sony...I'm on the fence about that. I think it is clearly a modest increase compared to a 100% increase in annual subscriptions. The thing is that Microsoft was planning to do this without any changes/improvements to the service: pay twice as much, and nothing fundamentally improves. And if it would improve, it sure wasn't mentioned, which leads me to believe it will not because that would have been made clear from the moment it was announced.

Would I like to see game prices come down, especially given the current global economic climate? Sure. I wouldn't even mind people raising this point. From my perspective though, games being next generation and the associated budget increases and hardware-based features (e.g., haptics) at least makes sense for why the cost goes up. Gamers are more than welcome to decide if they're okay with that (hence, voting with your wallet).

Gazondaily141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

@darxyde

"Take a chill pill, lad. It's not that serious."

Lol mate you're directing this at the wrong person. Look at the people who I am replying to.

"You can praise Microsoft, I just don't think they deserve it."

I didn't praise MS. I praised the Xbox community.

"To your point about game pricing from Sony...I'm on the fence about that. I think it is clearly a modest increase compared to a 100% increase in annual subscriptions. "

Agreed when drawn comparatively but on its own its still a matter that needs addressing. I do agree though that MS' infraction is even more inexcusable particularly considering the notion of paying to play online is just outdated now (and compounded with the fact that PC counterparts dont pay for it)- i said as much and more in other places.

I take your point on board that increased prices for games can possibly be justified but if the competition hasn't caved in and esp during times like these, I cannot see any real strong justifications yet. But, Sony has traditionally shown better quality output for its 1P titles than MS so there's that. This whole fiasco does show that if people are vocal enough, things can change. Yesterday I even had some people trying to downplay this or attack people for calling it out as if it was pointless- they can now see how quickly things can change.

RazzerRedux141d ago

"- Razzer cannot point to a single achievement in his life or even something that's comparable. Still waiting on that answer btw (you did exactly what I said you would lol)"

Because I don't have to. I'm not the one parading my website or my profession on n4g for all to see. And no, I'm not about to post my personal history on this or any other website and you know damn well why.

You obviously tried rebranding your tired old Xbox fanboy Septic account into something different, but if nothing else I think we have established that is simply just a farce. The same old Septic as always. For all your pretentious bullshit, you are still down here getting all dirty on n4g.

I think my work here is done.

Zhipp141d ago

@fr0sty
I can live with nickel and diming, but what they just tried to pull was basically price gouging. It was such a stupid move I'm almost convinced it was just for show. Either that or they were finally trying to kill the Xbox once and for all in one fell swoop.

Seriously, who in a competitive market would be dumb enough to double their prices suddenly like that? It boggles the mind

Gazondaily141d ago

@Razzer

No rebuttal to anything just mouthed off as usual. Cant withstand any scrutiny and did exactly what I said

" (or you know...do what you're good at doing which is to just carry on posting like your opinion matters with naught to show)."

So easy for you to mouth off with nothing to show. Amazing.

"I think my work here is done." Lol yes it is.

RgR140d ago

I wouldnt call it feedback. It's not lile they asked first.

All they had to do was ask anyone outside of the board room what they thought and they would've gotten the same response.

It made absolutely no sense.
I think they hoped that it wouldn't garner much attention and be able to slip it through.

Thankfully there was enough backlash to revert it.

Kilua140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

"How about this- how about you lot come debate this with me on camera for everyone to see? Or voice chat if you're shy to show your faces. Your facade will fall away very quickly You up for that? Or you going to recede back to making other excuses?"

You've got one heck of a superiority complex dude. You see, i dont have to do that. And why would i or anyone else want to do that? Why does it matter? I've laid out everything i wanted to say right here and now and i dont owe it to you or anyone to "Reveal" myself or debate with anyone on video. Heeeeeellllllo, this is an anonymous site. Your choice to come here and wear your website/name on your sleeve and parade your name to everyone is your choice. Note: The fact that you have a website and have the name in your website doesnt make your opinion superior, nor does it invalidate mine or anyone else's. It doesnt make you smarter or more able. You arent above anyone else here. Whether someone is new, old, has alt account or not. it makes no difference.

My issue here is simple:

1) Sony has nothing to do with issue yet you felt the liberty to bring it up, for no reason, even though other publishers are charging $70 as well. Dont come here acting like a proposed $60 increase for a year subscription to play MP games was comparable to a 10 dollar increase to retail. It's not the same. the fact that you tried to Drag Sony down into this and make it part of the conversation was disingenuous and you were rightly called out.

2) Coming in here acting like you are a big shot youtuber/website owner and telling other people that they've achieved nothing in life compared to you is 1) Pathetic 2) An ad-Hominen attack fallacy + a straw man fallacy + Begging the question (Assuming others have achieved nothing). It makes my fucking blood boil.

140d ago
Outside_ofthe_Box140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

@Septic

"Well done on the Xbox community for rallying together on this. Now if the PlayStation community can do the same to get the increased price of games lowered that would be great."

So instead of simply being glad about this news you had to take a shot at the PlayStation community. I know this gen has been a rough start for you with power and exclusive games narratives not going the way you would have liked, so you'll take shots where you can get 'em, but if a $10 price increase in game prices is the only blemish Sony(They're not even the only publisher to do so) has made this gen I think they're in good shape. MS on the other hand could not afford to continue with this price hike because they have been nosediving ever since the Infinite gameplay reveal and this would have been another major fault after fumbling on the games and not demonstrating the power gap to start the gen off. The acquisition of zenimax hasn't been enough to starve off criticism.

IRetrouk140d ago

@ septic, I agree, for once the xbox fans called ms out on their bullshit and got a result, good on them,👏 not sure what sonys game prices have to do with this but are we going to go after the other companies that changed their game prices too, or just sony🤔Why not mention them in your comment too....I think we know why🤣🤡

darthv72140d ago

I guess I missed all the brouhaha. I didnt know gold was changing price and now it isnt. And now F2P games are emerging from behind the paywall. Thats great news.

I been a Gold member for over 15 years and am now a GPU member. With the recent announcement I can get PS+ for 2 years for $60, I will be able to sign back up. I havent been a + member since the PS3. 2021 is going to be good for me with PS+ and GPU.

Teflon02140d ago

Naw not good on them. That was a horrible move and even at the idea stage the only way they'd approve such stupidity is if they believed they could take advantage of fools. Luckily this is one of those cases no one can defend. Because whether Sony, MS or Nintendo such a bold move would never be okay. Sony caught crazy backlash when they raised like $10. That was okay and I thought that was what ms was originally doing. I actually thought before seeing the price difference, cool beans. Not that surprised. But then I saw it was double lmao.

Can't commend them when they made a choice so unbelievably bad initially it's damn near hard to believe they thought that was remotely an okay decision.

Unless it was an attention ploy. To act like they listen to the community, so they make a decision people will never be okay with. To try make it up by removing paying for f2p.lol. that would be genius and I'd commend that though. Think who ever thought it up in that case deserves a raise lol

anubusgold140d ago

They tried this with games for windows they tried to get PC players to pay for online play and we laughed in their face lol. Guys were running games with dedicated servers for games in their house at the time.

The point is that they tried to pull this sh*t in the first place. Who knows what they’ll do next.

Still good news they reversed their actions and removed their stupid paywall for f2p games.

IRetrouk141d ago

I agree, it was a stupid, gready move, but more likely to get gamepass subs, like I say, it was smart of them to reverse this, the fallout would have been huge.

Tacoboto141d ago

It was a resoundingly short-sighted decision. And they knew it was going to go badly - bad news is always shoved to a Friday when people are focused on the weekend or talking about everything else from the week (heeey RE Village + surprise demo drop).

Totally agree that it was a move to cannibalize Gold in favor of GPU. At the least, there's a net-positive policy change overall, and it sends a message to Sony not to mess with pricing anytime soon either

Nd1vhu141d ago

The point is gamers made their voices heard and threatened to vote with their wallets and MS listened.

Make no mistake, nobody is in this to be your buddy. All companies will take an arm if you let them. The onus is on us to push back whenever companies try go beyond what is reasonable.
Xbox gamers made a stink at this predatory move and held it off and got a long requested change to boot.
Maybe if another company's consumers didn't go along with every predatory greedy move we wouldn't be looking down the barrel of phones coming without chargers, headphone jacks and headphones!

RauLeCreuset141d ago

They tested the waters. The brute force approach didn't work. This time. The same way the brute force approach didn't work for their pre-launch Xbox One intentions. All that means to them is they have to fine tune their messaging and do it the trojan horse way.

arkard140d ago

It's easy to know what they will do next. 5$ yearly increases until they are where they wanted to be

iplay1up2140d ago

It cost $69 dollars for a new PS5 game. All first party games come to Game Pass day 1. Enjoy paying $69 for the next Bethesda game. That money you spend, would pay for Game Pass for more than 6 months.

MrBeatdown140d ago

Exactly.

If it wasn't painfully obvious what their intentions were in hiking the price up, it sure is now. This just goes to show it had nothing to do with the actual costs of running the service.

Outside_ofthe_Box140d ago

"This just goes to show it had nothing to do with the actual costs of running the service."

I honestly think that paying for online in general has nothing to do with the cost of running the actual *online* portion of it seeing how it's free on PC. Obviously now the the costs are being used for GWG and PS+ free monthly games, but prior to that I've always felt that online multiplayer should have been free.

“It cost $69 dollars for a new PS5 game. All first party games come to Game Pass day 1. Enjoy paying $69 for the next Bethesda game. That money you spend, would pay for Game Pass for more than 6 months.”

I’ll enjoy supporting the developers.

monkey602141d ago

Good! This is why you speak out about these things! What did they think was going to happen here?!

RazzerRedux141d ago

Yeah....they had no choice. This was incredibly stupid. I said it in an opinion piece that this was "Don Mattrick-ish" and it was. And like Mattrick, Spencer is going to have egg on his face for a while, but this isn't permanently damaging like it would be if they stuck with the price hike.

monkey602141d ago

Have you seen this months Games with Gold? There's an extra game and 1 is Gears 5. You just know Spencer is lining up about 40 interviews as we speak. where he's going to tell us the jump in price was to increase the quality of games on the service and somehow turn it around on the people now that they can't do that.

Artemidorus141d ago

Only because of the outrage of people finally standing up.

Should of happened many years ago.

DarXyde141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

They don't get credit for reversing a bad decision like this, which really means they did nothing. This is zero sum.

Now, it sounds like they were never planning to do it and wanted to shore up some good. They've created this situation and now they're the heroes...?

I don't get it. You best believe that if Sony or Nintendo tried to pull this, you have an obligation to raise hell about it.

But thanks for standing up for yourselves, Xbox gamers. Thanks to you, Sony and Nintendo are now far less likely to feel emboldened to do something like this. YOU deserve the credit, not Microsoft.

343_Guilty_Spark140d ago

Sony is going to have to raise something to keep up with the cost of its Uber-exclusives.

IRetrouk140d ago

They already have, they now charge what some of the other big publishers do for their games, plus they normaly sell really, really well, that always helps👍

DarXyde140d ago

343_Guilty_Spark,

Good grief, you're insecure. 🙄

"Oh yeah?! Well...Sony is gonna do it too! Eventually! For something!"

That's what you sound like. Sony has screwed up royally with PS3 and we held them accountable. They've come correct since. It's fascinating to see you mention Sony will do something similar without any real evidence—just a hunch because Microsoft did it, and frankly, it's embarrassing to read that from you because it sounds an awful lot like you would have accepted and acquiesced to Microsoft's proposed standards. That is troubling and is exactly why Microsoft is allowed to underwhelm with their first party offerings and pull stunts like this: because a lot of you capitulate to mediocrity. You have often accepted Microsoft's vision for the future, progressively giving up on quality and allowing yourselves to become dependent via services like Game Pass. Luckily, people raised hell and they backed off the Gold increase quickly. It's a great first step, and hopefully Xbox gamers will really push to get more out of Xbox. It genuinely feels like I care more about the well-being of Xbox than the people who see shit like this and make straw man arguments about the competition doing the same before they've even done it. Try to pay attention to what has actually come to pass in this moment.

To entertain your insecurity, Sony may well try, but rest assured, they would suffer some serious consequences for that. They have increased the price of games, which I can understand people arguing against, but it's difficult to be too upset because a) the increase was expected thanks to the ballooning budget of games and b) it's a one time cost versus Microsoft who thought it was a good idea to gouge you on a recurring basis where XBL Gold would get 10 years' worth of subscriptions from consumers over 5 years.

Don't make excuses and accuse the competition when it hasn't happened yet. Granted, if Microsoft was successful, I feel quite certain Sony would try something and I'll give you that. The difference is PlayStation gamers have shown that their "loyalty" is very conditional—that is, not so loyal.

Darkborn141d ago

No it was them damage controlling like usual after a bad move.

Rude-ro141d ago

Or the whole was publicity stunt to say such things... 🤷🏻‍♀️
Smells like one. 😂😂
There is absolutely no way Microsoft, while already trying hard to climb their way up, said let’s charge more.
And then came in with the right fixes that were needed last gen like the free to play games.
They do not lead the market.
But, who knows.

TheProblem141d ago

Man MS are still pulling those desperate 180’s. This one was faster than ever

I think they can see how low demand is for the new Xbox consoles

iain04139d ago

LOGICWINS141d ago

Not good enough IMO. What Microsoft did today reeked of greed/incompetence. Did they just assume that gamers were going to be silent about this? At minimum, the paywall for online play should be removed permanently as an apology.

majiebeast141d ago

Now you know whats gonna happen when gamepass kills the industry they are gonna triple that price real fast.

Godmars290141d ago

How is Gamepass going to kill anything when this price increase nearly killed it?

Jin_Sakai141d ago

“How is Gamepass going to kill anything when this price increase nearly killed it?”

Because there’s options out there. If Gamepass was the industry standard you’d have no choice.

Darkborn141d ago

Exactly game pass is a cancer and no one realizes it.

Zhipp141d ago

@Jin
Gamepass will never be the industry standard because there are too many competitors + potential competitors. Even if it were the undisputed king, its thrown would always be in jeopardy a la Netflix and, historically, Sony and Nintendo for physical sales.

NotoriousWhiz140d ago

So much paranoia, game pass will never kill the industry because people will always want to own their games. That's like saying that gamefly killed the industry. Hint: it didn't.

What a suprise, MS listens to feedback and QUICKLY reverses the decision and changed a policy that needed changed...and N4G somehow sees it as negative.

EverydayJoe141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

Feedback or outrage? They had to, other wise it would have been business suicide! Be honest with yourself. This was on par with Xbox One DRM BS or worse, even that decision wasn't reversed in a day.

LOGICWINS141d ago

I’m glad the decision was reversed, but this is becoming a pattern that we can no longer ignore.

Why did we have to “let them know” the Halo Infinite demo was subpar?
Why did we have to “let them know” that free-to-play games should actually be free?
Why did we have to “let them know” that doubling the price of XBL Gold would be a bad idea?

Complete and utter stupidity.

Jin_Sakai141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

“What a suprise, MS listens to feedback and QUICKLY reverses the decision and changed a policy that needed changed”

As if they had a choice. They tried to pull a fast one and the backlash got the best of them.

Kilua141d ago

This was due to community backlash. You should thank the COMMUNITY, not MS for trying to enforce that BS in the first place.

ApocalypseShadow141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

Dude, they just tried to rip Xbox gamers off again like some of us knew they would eventually try. And you want us to give them a cookie for a 180?

F that. How many times does this company have to do these things before Xbox gamers wake up? There's no Don Mattrick to blame. This will be all Phil and company's stupidity going forward. No more excuses. They don't get a gold star or cookie for this turn about. They're just testing gamer's stupidity levels every time.

And free to play is still free to "pay" until they update it. After they have made all that money off of suckers.

potatoseal141d ago

You should be angry that they even tried to do it in the first place.

Shiken141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

@LOGICWINS

Why did MS have to let Sony know crossplay was pro consumer?

Why did we have to let Sony know consumers don't want to pay 700 bucks for a console with the PS3?

Bottom line is corporations are greedy and make stupid decisions. The important part is that when outrage or feedback is present, they listen. All three of them fk up because at the end of the day they are out for themselves and need to be set straight, so drop your bias. It is exhausting.

IRetrouk141d ago

@Shiken
