Edge of Eternity is the closest thing to a new Final Fantasy you’ll play this year (TheSixthAxis)

Having been in Early Access for over two years now, and been declared a beta since August, its final pre-launch content update has dropped ahead of a release in 2021. I recently dropped in to check out how it’s progressing.

Last time I played on pc the game was a little janky. They'll probably improve it for console release though. Otherwise I had fun with it. Hopefully the team is rewarded with sales for being as ambitious as they were.

I got it when it FIRST launched in EA a couple of years ago. Before any content updates and really enjoyed it. I haven't gone back to it yet, but from my understanding it has received so much extra content that it's basically 4x as big than it was then. And everything I've read about it praises it.

It wasn't perfect then and was a little rough around the edges when it came to some animations, but it was still a solid RPG. I think it will be worth it for sure.

Actually I do. My backlog goes back to ps2. I bounce around quite a bit with what I play.

Which means you'll never run out of games to play, no? Jrpgs are my favorite genre of game, and even though there are a ton out there, and most of them are dozens of hours long, the genre seems to be dying, compared to previous gens at least. Hopefully Persona 5 inspired some publishers to take the plunge.

Its pretty good but is missing some quality of life things in newer games. It also has a very annoying stamina system that makes you need to rest at inns or you run out of energy. I greatly dislike that "feature". Also the combat is annoying imo. Turn based combat is slow by nature but this game has a hexagon thing that was created by wild arms and you have to move to different areas and you can gain advantages and buffs or even activate traps to hurt the enemy depend on where you are standing. It just takes soooooo long. Eventually I just had no desire to keep playing because of the combat system. I support FFs choice to go action over turn based. This game is the opposite in every way because its turn based with extra long turns. It is not quite a tactics game but its not simply turn based either. I will probably go back to it once its finished and play through it. If I save my desire for a good turn base game long enough eventually I can play through one entirely. I think Persona is the best evolution of turn based combat we will get.
