It's a really great game. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Tech51600d ago

game runs a horribly optimized engine. just saying.
for what you see onscreen you should be getting a whole lot more in performance at 4k.
situation's also the same on pc. better middleware tools could have brought this game to life.

LOGICWINS1600d ago

Thanks man I will! I really hope Microsoft still allows this franchise on Playstation if they end up acquiring Sega. The more exposure Yakuza gets, the better IMO.

1600d ago
DarkZane1600d ago

@LOGICWINS I wouldn't worry about that, Microsoft is definitely never going to acquire SEGA or any japanese developers.

Army_of_Darkness1599d ago

Sega and ms would never work out well together cause their direction in gaming is very different from Ms stuff(online+fps) .. Sega +Nintendo, or Sega+Sony would be a much better team cause they all usually focus on new ips, single player and third person action games.

My favorite Yakuza game so far.

KeenBean3451600d ago

Having never played a yakuza game before this game is fantastic, hope you enjoy it as much as I did

Nyxus1600d ago

Nice, this is the version I'll be getting.

BLizardXD1600d ago (Edited 1600d ago )

"Yakuza Like a Dragon Runs at 4K/30 and 1440/60 On Series X"

Nyxus - "game is terrible on the console."

"Yakuza Like a Dragon Runs at 4K/30 and 1440/60 On PS5"

Nyxus - "Nice, this is the version I'll be getting."

Nyxus1600d ago

Can you link me to that comment I apparently made about the Xbox Series X? Because I don't seem to remember it...

But that explains the downvotes, a horde of salty Xbox fanboys, for some reason.

Genkins1600d ago (Edited 1600d ago )

fact of the matter is Series S also offers a 1440p mode and now so does PS5.
https://n4g.com/news/237854...
you can definitely spot the critics in this thread over it's two modes on xbox. and now PS5 has the same two modes so that puts the argument to rest. as it was developer issue with their engine.

gravedigger1600d ago (Edited 1600d ago )

@Genkins

Yes, XSS offer a 1440p mode just like the PS5....but at 30fps. On PS5/XSX is 60

Battlestar231600d ago

Glad Microsoft's temporary exclusive of the Next Gen version is over been holding off buying the game until the physical PS5 version was released.

StormSnooper1600d ago

Yep I’m in the same boat. Enjoy

KingofBandits1599d ago (Edited 1599d ago )

Do we know if the PS5 is getting a physical North American release from Sega? Or am I going to have to import this if I want a disc copy?

Destiny10801600d ago

the only way to get a locked 60 was to drop it down to 1080p on the x

porkChop1600d ago

The 60fps mode is also 1440p on Series X, not 1080p. There was a 1080p mode in previews, but I believe that was scrapped before launch because optimizations made it unnecessary. I've had Like a Dragon since launch and it only has two modes, 4K/30 and 1440/60.

phoenixwing1600d ago

It has lots of modes... On pc :)

Whitey2k1600d ago (Edited 1600d ago )

Actually destiny aint wrong as such i think he ment 1080p at a very stable 60fps as the series x version offers 3 modes

Normal mode at 1440p at 60fps
Resolution mode at 4k at 30fps
Performance mode 1080p at 60fps

If thats the case then ps5 will be missing a mode

porkChop1600d ago

Series X does *not* have 3 modes. It has two. Quality, which is 4K/30. And Normal, which is 1440/60. It does not have a third mode. That was only ever mentioned in previews and was removed before release. Stop spreading this false information.

The SX and PS5 versions are, from what we can tell, entirely identical. Which is to be expected.

azedean1599d ago

Not true at all, there is 3 modes, 1440P unlocked, 1080/60 and 4k/30 go check the DF video.

DJStotty1599d ago

@Whitey2k

"Normal mode at 1440p at 60fps
Resolution mode at 4k at 30fps
Performance mode 1080p at 60fps"

How is performance mode worse than normal mode?

thank you for spreading false information.

marioJP871600d ago

😂🤣😂
And gamers thought we were gonna get 4K/60 fps natively this gen.
I told you so.

cooperdnizzle1600d ago (Edited 1600d ago )

I think there was certain group of Xbox fans expecting that. Truthfully ya can’t blame them fully. They did have a company promoting 4K/60. Every chance they got.

But yes anyone who has had a pc for the past couple of years knows that it was gonna be hard to hit 4K/60. Especially with ray tracing. But there is hope of games running better than what we have thought.. I means spider man does run 1440p 60 FPS and ray tracing. It’s the very first game out of the gate so I would say we will see some improvements. Last we might get 4K/60, with mid gen refreshes.

In 3 years it totally seems plausible. Or machine like up Rez. Or it’s already pretty much been proven you can stay right around 1440 P have a good temporal aliasing and no one will tell the difference anyways. But 4/k 60 should be possible this gen with mid gen refresh. If anyone sees the point in doing. I think games are gonna focus more on cpu going forward for next 5 years .

Neonridr1600d ago

pretty sure everyone had their hopes up. Usually it was the PC crowd that was trying to temper expectations. But nobody wanted to listen.

4K/60 with ray tracing would be an insanely expensive console.

RazzerRedux1600d ago (Edited 1600d ago )

"I told you so."

You did? You've got two years worth of comments in two pages of comments history. Closest I'm seeing to your "I told you so" is.....

"And people still think games are gonna run thoroughly at 120 fps ... even hopes of 8K."

"And console gamers think PS5 will run ray tracing games at 4K 60 fps...
Yet, one of the highest end PC GPUs can't run it at 50 FPS 4K thoroughly."
https://n4g.com/user/commen...

You seem to come in with these tidbits of wisdom AFTER the announcements and act like you knew them all along. Nothing you've said before suggests you were saying consoles wouldn't do native 4k/60.

lukasmain1600d ago

Wow. How does it taste? I mean, I only ask because you just ate that chump alive in record time. Hahaha man that was funny

RazzerRedux1600d ago (Edited 1600d ago )

Tastes like chicken

;-)

FinalFantasyFanatic1600d ago

I always said that 1440p would be the sweet spot for next gen, especially with ray tracing, but everyone wanted to disagree with me.

Yakuza's Turn-Based Brawl Still Feels "Like A Disappointment" After All This Time

Fahad from eXputer: "Yakuza combat trades the series' classic brawling for menus and strategy, leaving some fans missing the beat-'em-up thrill."

isarai404d ago

It completely murdered the series for me. I love beatem ups, it's my favorite genre, always has been. The Yakuza series has always been the golden standard of that in my opinion and the annoying part is that they only went turn-based because of the reaction to a April fool's joke. Turn-based was something that I could never really get into despite trying. I wish I could get into it but it just does nothing for me and so when this game decided to go turn-based it just completely killed my favorite series which just really sucks.

Amplitude403d ago (Edited 403d ago )

I finished LaD and LaD:IW and still am of the opinion that the combat is absolute trash. Just the same couple animations over and over and over and over and SO much grind to unlock each new animation for each job. Really absolutely despise the combat and the systems built around the combat - still played through them though and would definitely put IW up there as a GOTY contender. Theres soooooo much more to do outside of the combat and the storytelling has just gotten phenomenal - but god damn i wish it had the classic combat.

The_Hooligan403d ago

You don't like any turn-based games or just the turn-based gameplay in the Yakuza games? I ask because I haven't started any Yakuza games and I was going start with either 0 or Kiwami 1 because I also like beatem ups more than turn-based. Although I don't mind turn-based games such as Persona, FF series or a good JRPG.

isarai403d ago (Edited 403d ago )

I don't like turn based, i tried over the years especially cause a lot of turn based JRPGs look rad af. But it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. Rare acceptions wete like pokemon and World of Final Fantasy. I actually own a copy of Persona 5 royal to try and tackle some day, but im honestly kinda afraid it's not gonna click for me either.

TheEroica402d ago

Playing yakuza 0 for the first time now. My first yakuza game ever.... Really enjoying it. Love all the little random beat em up battles and learning the systems.

CantThinkOfAUsername403d ago

Any game I'm interested in that uses a turn-based combat system gets the YouTube treatment. I tried playing turn-based many times before and I hate it with every atom of my being.

One example: regular mobs that you could have one-punched and moved on already take ages as everyone reaches their place, uses their attacks one-by-one then you get your turn and still miss with 99% so-called accuracy, yeah, I ain't sitting through all that shiz.

gold_drake403d ago

lets not pretend that yakuzas beat 'em up "battle system" was anything but basic.

thats not why ppl love the series.

isarai402d ago

That's a huge part of why the og fans loved the series, not the only reason, but certainly a big part.

neutralgamer1992402d ago (Edited 402d ago )

As someone who owns yakuza like a dragon series games and have played almost all of them but ever since the went to turn base, I tried it just wasn’t for me

It really sucks because we are the fans who had been sporting the series since day one and then we are the ones left behind. And we have new fans coming in telling us how we are wrong For disliking this new change in the gameplay

isarai402d ago

This, so much this! I've completely abandoned the fanbase/community because of this. Every time i express how this killed the series for me, all the new fans start lecturing ME on how im "wrong" and how the beatem up combat was somehow terrible. So i rarely even attempt to engage anymore.

shinoff2183402d ago

I've been one of those old school ps2 fans. I've yet to play the new ones. I'm getting there though. I think I'll like them but just don't know yet. Ironic though is cause I wonder how many yakuza fans who hate the turn based combat are the same ones that love ff16.

Si-Fly402d ago

So Pokemon’s combat worked for you but Like a Dragon didn’t? Is it the extra depth to the combat do you think?

isarai402d ago

Maybe? 🤷‍♂️ I always give them a shot, but if it doesn't do anything for me im not going to force myself to play a game where i don't enjoy the gameplay.

-Foxtrot404d ago

I love the turn based battle system but I do wish they would have split the series into two franchises, the ones with Kiryu follow the classic battle system while the new ones with Ichiban do turn based combat

Least then both fans could have been happy and they could have cycled between each of them to keep things fresh.

Vits404d ago

I think that was the plan. The Yakuza series has finished ditching the old combat system with Gaiden and moving forward would go with turn-based combat. Whereas the Judgment series would keep the beat 'em up style and bring it to newer heights. But there were all those rumors about the actor from the Judgment series and his agency were not willing to renew the contract, so we might never get any new games there.

isarai404d ago

Funny thing is i think the turn based would have fit the Judgement series more as the protagonist is more of a thinking man.

shinoff2183403d ago

Could always just start another one.

shinoff2183403d ago

I just finished getting all the yakuzas for ps4 and ps5. I've played up till 4 on ps3 and ps2 but then there was the whole not bringing 5 to the west bs back then. Anyway since then I haven't really played so I started all the way at 0 playing/streaming and plan on working my way up. I look forward to the new ones but I'm not sure how they'll turn out yet. I do love turn based though.

Amplitude403d ago

You're in for the single greatest series of all time my man. If you've already played 3 4 and 5, maybe skip them and watch a plot synopsis. They've aged really poorly - 3 in particular

shinoff2183403d ago

@amplitude

I've played it since yakuza 1 on ps2 lol. Just back during ps3 they weren't going to bring yakuza 5 west due to sales of the series(if I remember right, or maybe no physical) so I stopped. Hadn't played in years. Yea yakuza is one of my favorite series. Top notch stuff right here.

notachance403d ago

nah man let Kiryu retire in peace already, dude just can’t catch a break..

Aphrodia403d ago

I used to love using an arcade stick for these games. It's really really fun this way.

Miacosa403d ago

Pure turn-based games seem like a thing from the past when devs were trying to do something more cinematic but could not.

shinoff2183403d ago

I 100 percent disagree. There's nothing wrong with turn based. I feel action games most of the time are way to over the top. Give me a turn based game any day of the week. Aside from a handful of action jrpgs like star ocean and such.

Friendlygamer402d ago

That makes no sense. There's an entire audience for strategic games, they're not worse or better

CrimsonWing69403d ago

Not for me and I’m glad they made this shift. It’s been an incredibly fun game to play and honestly one of the highlights this year for me.
