PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S vs Switch Launch Sales Comparison Through Week 8

Through the first eight weeks available worldwide the PlayStation 5 is ahead of the Switch and Xbox Series X|S by a fair margin. The PS5 is ahead of the Switch by 1.84 million units and is 2.13 million units ahead of the Xbox Series X|S.

The PS5 has sold 4.66 million in eight weeks worldwide, while the Switch sold 2.82 million units and the Xbox Series X|S 2.52 million units.

Looking at the marketshare through eight weeks, the PlayStation 5 currently leads. The PS5 has a 46.6 percent marketshare, the Switch sits at 28.2 percent, and the Xbox Series X|S at 25.2 percent.

It's only going to build and build, faster and faster from here on out for Sony. They just need to keep pumping out as many PS5's as humanly possible.

I know Sony’s doing what they can to pump out as many PS5s as possible, but they’re gunna lose millions if they allow Dbrand to monopolize colored faceplates. It may be time for them to at least announce their own alternative.

No one has monopolized colored faceplates. No one is even close. The vast majority of PS5 owners don't even know about Dbrand. Who knows what Sony is doing behind the scenes or what their plans are? This issue is of little importance. They'll probably just throw some lawyers on it and be done with it. Dbrand is a little mouse trying to steal a piece of cheese in a Sony Warehouse filled with cheeses. Not really a big deal, but they would probably prefer the little mouse not be there at all. We'll see what happens.

I would buy some cheap faceplates, I will wait for official ones. Just hoping Sony has some nice ones planned out for us.

The PS5 would have sold ten times more if they had ten times the units at launch. I think that much no one would deny.

I finally got my Series X! Quick resume, is an AMAZING FEATURE. Being able to switch between (at least 5 games) in seconds, is literally a game changer!

I am coming from the X1X, and didn't think a game like Tetris Connected, would benefit from my upgrade. Holy smokes, I was wrong. The colors and the sound, from that game are FAR better, on Series X than my X1X. Eye popping!

If you are using a new gen console, you really need a capable TV or monitor. My TV is UHD, Ultra HDR, and up to 280 MHZ. With Dolby Atmos, and Vision. So far there are over 80 games optimized for Series X. Around 20 of them are available for Game Pass.

All game consoles are selling well. Looking forward to the new Switch! The Switch has been my go to, for just plain fun!

Now, I need to find a way to get a PS5, without my partner going nuts.

What’s cool is the Xbox knows if you had it opened and played on another system. Then it closes it out there then reloads so you don’t loose any progress. They’ve got the saving game feature down solid. I’m glad all of the consoles are selling well, this healthy competition is yielding some great features

ALIGNED. it shows that the PS5 is selling so much better than the Switch initially and the SX/SS is not that far off-pace from the Switch during their first 8 weeks on the market.

BUT the Switch did launched in Q1 which might contribute to lower initial numbers compared to Q4 for the PS5 and SX/SS.

As far as i know both Sony and MS have been selling all they have. So what we are looking at is more a testiment to how much production facility they have.

Andwe all know Sony did not wait for the real next gen RDNA2 (full) and therefore had produced more consoles. Also the reason why there where no dev kits of xbox in the hands of developers for almost a whole year compared to ps5.

So Sony outfoxed Microsoft again it seems. Microsoft decided to just implement stock RDNA 2 while Sony went the true customization route where they didn't have to wait on AMD. And the results speak for themselves.
