Hardware Sales Drop as the Holiday Season Ends - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for Dec 27-Jan 2

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console with 680,341 units sold for the week ending January 2, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch has now sold an estimated 76,989,289 units lifetime.

The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 205,501 units to bring its lifetime sales to 4,657,029 units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 122,637 units to bring their lifetime sales to 2,522,023 units.

Of course the Switch is going to do well in sales you can walk into a store and find the thing sitting on the shelf. I haven't seen a PS5 or a Series X/S on store shelves since it launched I don't even know if half the preorders were full filled. Only time I see a Series X or PS5 up for sale is on Ebay for a stupid price by a scalper so of course the PS5 and Series X/s sales will drop because they are hard to find.

Yup, my experience as well. Can't find the thing. When it does drop, the websites are overloaded with traffic and can't get in queue. It'll be a while before it's widely available. My guess? 6-8 months.

Nobody walks into a store to get a PS5 and comes out with a Switch though. So that logic is slightly flawed.

Hmm walk to the video game section browse see what's there buy other stuff. How is the logic flawed? If you find it hard to go to the game section and browse I just made it real simple for you told you the steps on what to do. I am sure there is a how to book or a how to video on Youtube to show you how to browse a video game section.

Not really, the point is, the demand for the PS5 is far higher than the supply. There are likely millions that want one but have been unable to get one. Furthermore, it's not as if it's just not available in stores, you can't buy it anywhere.

@Knightofelemia - my point is, if someone wants a PS5 and they walk into a store, the likelihood they go and purchase an entirely different console is probably pretty low. If they wanted a Switch they would buy a Switch. And vice versa.

Yeah, took me a month and a half and a fair amount of luck to get a PS5. At least a dozen times I clicked refresh on a retail website at the moment a shipment was supposed to be available, and the the "Will Be Available at X Time" message changed to "Sold Out".

how would the sales numbers sustain themselves or increase when they're sold out everywhere and/or are in the hands of scalpers? i'm sure as hell not paying a dollar more than the suggested retail price, so i'm good waiting for them to be properly in stock lol

Agreed. Both the ps5 and X/S are unicorns. Heard of them, but have yet to see one in the stores. Sales are down because there aren't any out in the wild to buy!!!

I heard there might be issues getting them in the states because of new tariffs in place. We'll see as there is a lot of demand.

Exactly when people bring up the fact switch did so well(and no doubt did and is doing amazing) there is also another side to this story and that's Sony and Ms launching consoles during this pandemic so those consoles are sold out everywhere

If switch, ps5 and series x were available anytime and we're sitting on store shelves I have zero doubt that ps5 would outsell switch (something it will do anyway once it's widely available but than excuses from nintendo fans would be well switch is a older system and anyone who wants one got one)

It seems nintendo fans have covered all their bases. They are glowing right now because switch is doing well and if other platforms start doing better they will have excuses ready to go at moment's notice

Same way when wiiu failed we were told nintendo isn't competing with Sony or ms they are doing their own thing but it seems now when switch is out selling 7-8 years old last gen consoles and next generation consoles which aren't even available widely they sure as heck want to drive home the point switch is competing with Sony and ms

I have seen very little over the years of Nintendo fans moving the goalposts to suit their narrative. That's something I've seen sony fanboys do on many occasions.
