Will Heath is back to bring another great topic to the forefront. Nintendo is definitely holding back on nostalgia on the Switch. Why is that?
What have they really done besides the NES and SNES apps and the recently released Super Mario 3D All-Stars? It seems like Nintendo has barely tapped their back catalog with the Switch. The Wii and Wii U had significantly better back catalogs, and it is a bit baffling that this will be the Switch's fourth year on the market and Nintendo has barely tapped on their nostalgia buttons. I mean, where is the N64 app for Nintendo Switch Online? That one seems like a no-brainer.
Yea. It baffles the hell out of me why they just went and ditched the eshop and why you can't buy games from every previous system on the Switch. The Switch would be absolutely amazing to own an entire library on the go of previous generations. Nintendo seem more interested in locking away their games. The only other company that did that was Disney when they would vault their movies. But now that they have a platform to make instant money on, they've opened the floodgates. Nintendo had that platform a decade ago, but decided to just shut it down.
GameCube? Hello..? I swear it’s like Nintendo hates money.
I really feel like Nintendo is the Disney Dragon sitting on it's treasure and denying people access to it's great library of games, I can't see why they can't offer old games for a few dollars or less on the Eshop. There are some Nintendo games I would happily go back and replay.
They need to bring back Virtual Console. I want to be able to buy retro games and play them whenever I want, not because of a subscription.
^This. Also, it wasn't just Nintendo games represented on VC. There were a ton of games across various first and third party systems. Sure, it might not have been the greatest emulation, but it sure was convenient, and was a great way to both revisit old favourites and come across new ones. The Switch is the perfect system to have both the console and handheld VCs in one great digital storefront. It is true that the Switch is a great system even without all of that, but if it had VC, I'd have a difficult time ever putting the thing down.
I'm thinking the opposite. I haven't touched a Nintendo games since I was a child, because their games haven't change much since.
Im kind of the same way. I really only play nintendo related games when I hang out with friends and play mario party, smash, or other great get-together games. Haven't really played anything new from nintendo because of how much they milk their nostalgia, but hey, gotta make money I guess 🙃
I feel that. If someone has a Nintendo and asks me to play, I will say yes. But the price for Nintendo stuff is too steep for what they offer to justify buying one in my situation.
I can't even get most of my friends to play and one of the reasons I bought the Switch was for it to be the multi-player machine.
Another great topic? I guess a billion Zeldas and Marios are far from enough. We need a trillion. Havent own a Nintendo console since GC and that wont change until they change this attitude
Honestly though, Nintendo isn't just Mario and Zelda. Animal Crossing is a huge thing now. Metroid, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade Chronicles, Pikmin, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Pokemon, Splatoon, Bayonetta. Do you really want them working on a new IP like Pikmin or Arms when they could be creating BotW2 or a sequel to Odyssey, the best platformer ever made(imo), which recently released and at this time has about a 97 metacritic with about 113 critical reviews and an 8.9 user score after about 5729 user reviews. Even if you don't like them, I do, and I don't want to see Nintendo move away from their roots. I don't get a vote though(besides with my wallet), but I do hope that Nintendo keeps making great games from these franchises I love. I hope they DO NOT start chasing popular fads and making arbitrarily online games trying to go viral.
Because Nintendo nostalgia is only Zelda and Mario. You must have not been around during the NES or SNES days.
Yes they should, Nintendo have such a rich back catalogue.
Are you taking the piss? All nintendo do is the same franchises. They need new big ip. Enough milking!
That's not the point. Franchises are not the same as classics. Just because there are a ton of Mario Party games does not mean the series has any classics. The old consoles, however, are loaded with classics that Nintendo could milk. It doesn't mean to only do nostalgic releases, but Nintendo can keep the whole calendar year exciting by equally releasing new games and re-releasing old ones. It's a win-win that way, and they will undoubtedly make a ton of money.
I just want to buy Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on my Switch. Come on Nintendo, make it happen!
Precisely. Hopefully we will get a Zelda 3D All-Stars of sorts for the Switch, like they did with Mario last year. Considering this year is Zelda and Metroid's 35th anniversaries, I will be quite upset if we do not see some major throwbacks for the two franchises, especially Zelda.
Arent those titties stretched tf and bone dry?!
What ? Mario and Zelda didn't they were milked enough already ?
It needs to make more games . That’s all .
They recently announced more Mario and Zelda... Yeah holding back on nostalgia.
An n64 mini would be nice.
All they've done is bank on nostalgia; they've rarely deviated from Mario, Link, Metroid, and the rest of their franchises from the 80's.
