Lucasfilm Games' New Partnerships Mean the Galaxy's the Limit - Ubisoft working on Star Wars IP

From Wired: "TODAY, LUCASFILM GAMES announced that it’s entering a partnership with Ubisoft to create an open-world Star Wars game. The title will be developed by Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment, marking the first time that a company outside of EA has produced a Star Wars game since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, ending nearly eight years of exclusivity. Also in the works is a new Indiana Jones game, to be developed by Bethesda Game Studios, a newcomer to Lucasfilm’s and Disney’s properties."

Massive news. Star Wars would lend itself so well to an open world game and Ubisoft obviously have experience with this. There were hints of how it could work with Disney Infinity 3.0 which was aimed at younger ages but still had some great moments. Also, I personally love Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic such a great RPG that gave you a sense of the universe. Now we also know Bethesda/Machine Games is making an Indy game I hope the new Lucasfilm Games is scouting for a developer with experience to make RPGs.

I do like that Star Wars is letting other publishers/developers take on Star Wars games.

But, lets just hope they don't that the theme is quality over quantity.

Massive Entertainment. Love them since the World in Conflict days.
Division was a nice effort from them and hence I just hope this Star Wars game is not a live-service based one.

UltraNova1216d ago

Let's be honest here, it probably will be live service.

RaidenBlack1216d ago

Yea, given how UbiSoft has been using Massive but ....
"brand-new, story-driven, open-world Star Wars adventure!" - I just wish its a single-player one.

You and me both brother...

From the developers of such glitch fests as assassins creed unity to your favorite meh open world titles comes a generic open world star wars game.
Why the hell does every game have to be open world. Look at God of war 2018. It's got a fleshed out hub area and kind metroidvania but everything flows great and has depth.

CosmicTurtle1216d ago

It’s not the developer of Unity.

SmokinAces1216d ago

Not every game is open world.

CrimsonWing691217d ago

I just hope it won’t be blatantly formulaic like most Ubisoft games.

Rainbowcookie1216d ago

I got a feeling it will be and probably Gaas too

talocaca1216d ago

That was my first thought.....another generic open world game with a billion glitches and a Star Wars theme.

StoneyYoshi1216d ago

Ubisoft stated they need to rethink how open worlds are made for nex-gen systems, so heres to hoping this will be one of those open world games that isn't the same basic setup like their current open world games.

mgszelda11216d ago

They have a bs excuse for everything. They lack any big creatives. They pushed modern gaming towards cookie cutter game design. They think they don't need inventive people to helm projects. They see a hole in staffing and put anyone there. That's most studios today though.

The problem is...and I doubt anyone will want to admit this because it's Star Wars, I honestly want the best aswell, but it probably will be just that.

It's going to be like every open world game they've done and they are going to try and shove online stuff in there with MTs somehow.

CobraKai1216d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see assassins creed or far cry engines and gameplay reskinned as a Star Wars game.

EA’s Star Wars exclusivity deal must of been renegotiated awhile back without being publicly disclosed.

Luxoflux Killed it with Vigilante 8 / Second Offense. Both were amazing for their time. Demolition was/is still nearly unplayable.
