Opinion: Going Into the New Year Without a PS5

The dreaded 2020 is over, but a new year has begun; issues, problems, and talking points from 2020 still linger into 2021, and for the video game industry - it's where the heck are all the PS5s (and Xbox Series X/S's)?

I'll get one eventually. I waited 3 years into the PS4/XBO before I got both. I don't foresee it being that long this time but I'm not worried as my Pro is doing a fine job with keeping me entertained. Same with the One X and the games that are cross-gen. I will not buy from a scalper, so however long it takes before I can freely walk into a walmart, bestbuy or gamestop.... so be it.

The release dates we keep seeing (and delays) show what some of us have been saying for awhile.

Next gen will really start sometime next year. 2022-2023 look amazing. Don't overpay for something that's simply not worth it.

Yeah, I'm perfectly happy rocking current gen for awhile.

I can't manage to grab one of the new graphics cards right now. I haven't even tried finding the new consoles, but I can empathize with people eager to find one.

I expect a lot of next-gen updates, compilations, and filler for 2021. Late 2022 will likely be a great time to jump into PS5.

Ah, yes, there are so many first world problems in this world that are easily put into perspective by actual real problems. For what it's worth, I don't have a PS5 either, but I'm content with waiting for one. I've just heard my fill about real problems. The actual news is full of such stuff. Hearing about someone being distraught about not being able to get a PS5 does kind of give me a break from that. Sure, it's difficult to actually feel bad for someone for whom that is their biggest concern, so point taken.

I really want a PS5, but it's not as if I can't wait. Early release madness dissipates after a while, so I'll get one when I'm able to just walk into a store and ask for one. For me, purchasing a new system shouldn't be a stressful experience. So, I'll wait. It's not as if I don't have plenty to play as it is. I'll be fine.

I got mine, but personally i wouldn't have minded waiting. I really only got it this soon because i already had the money aside for it, and i just happened to be out when a walmart i was across the street from got some in, so i couldn't ignore that luck. Been playing Borderlands 3, Demon's Souls, and Cod Black ops, and while they're all fun, they're not really getting it for me. I was always intending to get R&C for my first real next gen experience, but since it's delayed i'm kinda just killing time till then.

TLDR, you're not missing out on much, even if you LOVE the launch games, there's only about a few weeks worth of game there till you're stuck with nothing to play again.

I came into 2021 with a PS5. I was one of the lucky few that managed to get one on day one from Amazon UK. Miraculously mine didn't turn out to be a box of dog food or a blender.

Now waiting patiently for the pulse headset to come back in stock. My £100 Amazon gift card isn't going to spend itself

I gave up waiting on a Pulse. I opted for the Arctis Pro wireless ones. Never would've dropped that kind of dough on a headset but like you I had close to $180 in gift cards/store credit and more importantly, my old ones died. I love the quality. The range is insane compared to Sony's PS4 Platinum ones and they last 20 hours.

I can't think of a justifiable reason to put that much effort into finding a PS5 or Xbox Series X. If they were readily available I might pick one up but I'm not wasting my time trying to find one. Once there are more games for each console then I'll likely purchase both, but that's not until the end of the year, at the earliest.

I'm an Xbox fan but my best friend is a huge Sony fan. We were both hoping to get our favourite new console for Christmas he was lucky with his pre order for the PS5 but I missed pre ordering an Xbox Series X & still haven't managed to get one.
We both have read the reviews of the new PS5 controller & really couldn't wait to try it out, but we both came away wondering what the big fuss was all about. In his words he said he just doesn't get it, it basically vibrates a bit more. We have tried quite a few games with it but still don't get the hype whatsoever.
Please explain...

i think you have to be knee deep in a game before you start to appreciate it

its like listening to 3D audio for the first time and saying to yourself, it sounds pretty much the same what's the big deal but when your knee deep in a game you will absolutely hear all those subtle differences and in this case feel those differences
