Dirt 5 Visual Comparison Between PS5 and Xbox Series After Update 2.00

Dirt 5 has been updated for the Xbox Series to fix the issue with lower-quality models in 120 FPS mode. Here's a comparison between the next-gen consoles.

It's interesting that PS5 is still sharper in some areas and the Xbox Series S was only supposed to have lower resolution but the assets have been suffering compared to the big boy consoles

DerfDerf1637d ago

At 5:34 you can clearly see the PS5 version is lacking compared to the Xbox Series consoles.

ScootaKuH1637d ago

Clearly. I mean xbox consoles are like gods

bouzebbal1637d ago

Ridiculous performance even after a patch, from the monster without teeth

zypher1637d ago (Edited 1637d ago )

Environmental conditions for the garage scenes are different on the PS5. For every scene where conditions are the same (6:28, for instance) both PS5 and Series X look identical

Dragonscale1636d ago Show
StoneyYoshi1636d ago

Those comparisons are a waste considering the weather/location are not the same between the XB and PS5. PS5 version is overcast/hazy and in a different environment. It's hard to say which is better when lighting being different can make a huge difference.

LamerTamer1636d ago

The PS5 is missing the reflections on the car. Even the Xbox series S has them which is odd.

Playstation 5 version looks a little washed out.

jairusmonillas1637d ago

Series X dynamic resolution drops a much lower resolution just so it can ran to the same FPS of PS5 version.

russo1211637d ago

So much talk about real 4k, 120fps, powaofdacloud, etc., that would turn things in MS favour, but in reality it's just a frightened little kitty and a battalion of xbox supporters doing as much damage control as possible.
Today it's the tools, tomorrow who knows?

OT: it seems this update made both versions almost equal (that should have been since the beginning), but I need to see it in real action and will see if no more unpleasant surprises. Analysis from NX Gamer is a must.

Well. We are seeing the facts in front of us as we speak. PS5 seems to have the edge in real world application. If/when series X looks better, that will be just as insignificant as it was in the current generation especially considering that mid-gen consoles are also a thing now.

@Zeref

"So you think somehow the PS5 is going to defy physics and this is how it's gonna be for the rest of the generation?"

"the Series S version of games may perform scary close to the PS5"

lol....so PS5 cannot defy physics but Series S somehow will? Perhaps you should acknowledge that both these consoles have features the other does not? Whether or not this is "how it's gonna be" all gen remains to be seen, but having to provide excuses even at this early stage for XSX is a bit hilarious. Fact of the matter is there is more PS5 and XSX are different architectures based on the same tech. That's why they are custom. That fact alone means the teraflops power difference you cling to isn't very important

@LamerTamer

"Yeah the PS5 is weak. Less compute units (no more CUs than in the last-gen PS4 Pro? What!), slower RAM, slower CPU, less bandwidth, RDNA 1.5 with a bunch of missing features instead of the full RDNA 2.0. "

That's a selective and biased list if there ever was one. You don't mention the segmented slower ram on XSX. You don't mention GPU speed. You don't mention custom features that Sony implemented for PS5 and pretend that those features can only exist in RDNA 2.0.

"They will eventually optimize"

That is going to be the excuse for as long as PS5 and XSX are on even footing. Nah...bullshit. I don't buy it. Here again, your selectivity assumes only XSX will benefit from dev learning more about how to squeeze performance from these consoles. Devs are going to optimize for both consoles.

andy851637d ago

You're clueless Zeref. Teraflops aren't everything. If it's factually more powerful why is it being outperformed? The PS4 was slightly more powerful than the Xbox one and look how much better the games looked. The PS5 is far more customised for gaming that's why it's performing better. There's a thing called developer talent too. We haven't even seen an acclaimed developer release a true next gen title yet and already they look like this. Xbox have already said they will release their titles on Xbox one so they're already limiting themselves there.

I can't believe you've just said the Series S may perform close to the PS. It's running at five seventy P!!! at times. Honestly one if the worst things I've seen on here.

The Wood1637d ago Show
Dragonscale1636d ago

Seems someone just can't accept that PS5 is actually more efficient. Yet another multiplat that outperforms xsx lol. Yeah its everything but the console of course, excuses, more excuses and damage control.

Tetsdah1636d ago

@Razzer

Honestly bro, I imagine in 3 years if the ps5 still outperforms xsx, the tools haven't matured enough still. I honestly think gamers don't really believe in architectural design differences allowing that power to be harnessed and utilized efficiently. I whole heartedly believe that the ps5 was better architecturally designed. It is being showcased with game performance. The tools excuse is old and the developers having to get used to the hardware is misguided as hell. Xsx development kit is intended to scale up and down from PC. Dirt 5's dev shut down the nonsense on immature kits. It is less specialized than the PS5 and its kit. I think the devs may have to get used to the ps5 dev kits if anything lol.

This was a contest of race cars basically. MS built more for drag and Sony built more for circuit. These differences are insignificant in the grand scheme, because the differences are neglible. Like fake neutrals have said, enjoy your games .The differences aren't big enough to matter, so just enjoy it on your platform.

I just feel like Playstation team have proven the designed a more efficiently system that allows for better performance. It is what it is. When XSX is proves otherwise, ill re-evaluate.

LamerTamer1636d ago (Edited 1636d ago )

@ Razzer,

Yes the RAM is segmented but the faster RAM is 10 GIG! That is TWO more than the PS4 Pro, it is a lot. It is not like Xbone where the fast memory was only 32 M. They can use the faster memory where they need it, and use the slower RAM for all of the social media and other crap they have running.

Yes the PS5 GPU is clocked a little higher but have many less cores running. More CUs running in parallel more than make up for a slight bump in clock speed. Last gen the Xbone clocked their GPU higher than ps4 hoping to make up the difference when it had less CUs, it did not, the more CUs still beat Xbone.

Yes both will get better dev tools but the point was the PS5 dev tools are already more optimized due to longer time in optimization. The XSX tools are in a much more un-optimized early state so they have more room to improve. The PS5 tools will get a little better, the XSX tools will get a lot better.

The hardware is the hardware and the XSX is better. You just need to come to grips with the fact. It is Ok though the PS5 will still have good exclusives.

Ultimately, these small differences don't matter but it's just funny after the world's most powerful console mantra

Chris121637d ago

Except it's a third party title developed on an old SDK but if you feel this is a win for a less powerful console that's cool I guess?

DarkZane1637d ago

I wonder what excuse you will be using in a few years down the line when the PS5 still outperform the XSX in pretty much every games. Those TFLOPS you're so proud of mean absolutely nothing because the PS5 is better in some aspects than the XSX, making it the better machine overall.

RazzerRedux1637d ago (Edited 1637d ago )

The Dirt 5 dev explicitly said the SDK was not an issue.

IRetrouk1637d ago (Edited 1637d ago )

Dirt dev says Chris12's capping isn't true.... read more at 10.

kayoss1637d ago

ok, if this the excuse youre going to use, Chris12. How do you explain that some of the exclusive PS4 games looks better than some of the XsS or on par with XsX consoles? Please stop moving the goal post. The XsX is the most powerful console on the market, so you cant really make any excuses. But its getting sad that the most powerful console in the world cant even out perform the more "inferior" competition.

lifeisgamesok1637d ago

It's also funny that you mention an old SDK because this very developer said there wasn't anything lacking in the XSX development kit that they used

He kind of killed the tools excuse

Meh it’s just a marketing strategy

gamer78041637d ago

It’s true it’s just early on in the sdk and generation

IRetrouk1636d ago

So the dirt dev lied? He said the sdk was fine, guess he just makes stuff up🤷‍♂️

gamer78041636d ago (Edited 1636d ago )

@iretrouk

the sdk was "fine", it was just delivered much later than sony's so less time to work with it. Its like when someone is new on the job, the job process itself is fine, but it takes time to learn. both can be true at the same time.

IRetrouk1636d ago (Edited 1636d ago )

The dirt dev says they did have enough time with it, is he lying there then🤔, seems like they had it early infact.....

"What is it like developing on Xbox Series X?"

A: Transitioning development to a new console platform, like Xbox Series X, is usually very painful. You have to deal with new tools, new workflows, new ways of thinking.

This time around the team at Xbox brought me a new toolset called the Game Development Kit, which they already had up and running on Xbox One.

This meant that we could make the transition much earlier. In fact, we started doing the groundwork for Xbox Series X development long before we even received the hardware. This kind of thinking from Xbox allowed us to get a real head-start on next-gen development, so after receiving our early Xbox Series X hardware, we were up and running really quickly."

"I’ve never worked on a console launch where, while we’re still months away from release, the tools have been this mature, this stable, this easy to work with."

https://news.xbox.com/en-us...

gamer78041636d ago

So take that three months and triple it. That’s what Sony did for devs.

IRetrouk1636d ago (Edited 1636d ago )

3 months? They didnt give a time frame, how do you know when the tools were received🤔 Where do you get the info that tells you when sony and ms sent them out🤔 You said devs had the old sdk and not enough time with it, I just proved that wrong, they had the new sdk before final hardware, they had no issues with how long they had it for, even saying they had it early, even calling it the most mature and stable of any launch🤷‍♂️
The tools/sdk is an excuse, nothing more.

gamer78041636d ago (Edited 1636d ago )

The max devs had the kits were 3 months, so up to that amount from what I’ve read. https://www.gameinformer.co...

Atticus_finch1636d ago

You're trying way too hard and all that just to be inevitably disappointed.
It's embarrassing that a software giant wouldn't have it's "tools" ready. Not a good excuse.

gamer78041636d ago

It’s a good excuse really, but yah def not ideal, but assures things will start improving as time goes on

IRetrouk1636d ago (Edited 1636d ago )

Its not a good excuse, Its pure bull, the dirt devs comments are from June, ms execs said something in November.....the dirt devs had already rubbished what ms was pushing🤦‍♂️like it, it dont🤷‍♂️

gamer78041636d ago

It’s clear the dirt 5 devs are having issues. They aren’t going to come out and say it. They just now finally fixed some of the bugs including the texture bug on the series x.

IRetrouk1636d ago

Yeah bugs, not sdks and dev kits lol, keep reaching though, only one who will be disappointed is you, everyone else can see its a lame excuse🤷‍♂️

gamer78041636d ago

Just shows that they are just less familiar with the hardware and had less time resulting in them pushing it out with some pretty glaring bugs. I’m just pointing out facts that they had more time with thenps5 then they did with the Xbox.

IRetrouk1636d ago

Not really, bugs can happen for many, many reasons lol

gamer78041636d ago

Yea really :). But yes bugs can happen for a variety of reasons

IRetrouk1636d ago

Ok dude, you know better than the devs, understood👌

gamer78041636d ago

That’s not what I said at all. I said both things can be true.

I barely notice any differences in either direction with the ps5/SX. There may be some subtitle differences in specific instances but that seems about as close as you would expect between 2 platforms. Appreciate the effort put into the video of course, but this wasn’t the easiest comparison to pick apart.

Side note: the transition between modes made for way too much to try to take note.

Man I wish arcade racers would make a comeback. Racing games have become so boring if you're not into SIM or semi-Sims. That isn't discrediting SIMs, I'd just rather get chased by police, ram people off the road, drift at impossible speeds. The Crew 2 and NFS are just a bit average at best.

Try out BallisticNG and Redout if you like futuristic racers

Awesom games to start the year with

BiggCMan1272d ago

Yes I'm very excited for Deep Rock Galactic myself! I tried it on PC last year and fell in love with the gameplay and silliness. PlayStation is my main platform though so this will be when I really get deeper into the game and mechanics. Very excited! Hope PlayStation players find themselves loving it like me. Also excited to try Dirt 5 in 120fps cuz I just need more games running at that, it's so wonderful in Borderlands 3 for example.

darthv721272d ago

Looking forward to feeling the road deform under my thumbs in Dirt 5. I loved it on XB so playing it on PS to earn some trophies will be just as fun if not more thanks to the DS.

Ethereal1272d ago

Very excited to play Deep Rock Galactic. I've heard nothing but great things.

GhostofHorizon1272d ago

Great start, Persona 5 Strikers alone makes this a great month.

Best racing game last gen, for me, was the excellent Driveclub, without a single doubt. Flawed launch perhaps, but they more than made up for that.

Dirt 2 GOTY (the base-game was a bit too empty, but the GOTY is packed with content) also deserves a mention, for fans of the genre.
