The new PS5 update warns you if you're playing the PS4 version of a game

Sony recently pushed out an update to the PlayStation 5 that gives it a feature that should have been available at launch. The latest update will now tell you if you’re playing the PS4 version of a game. And if a PS5 version is available, they’ll notify you to switch to the updated title.

Also the bold letters "PS4" that appear when you highlight a PS4 version of a game but not the PS5 version warn you about this as well, as do the inferior graphics and missing use of haptic feedback lol.

Defo needed, today I switched my ps5 on today but it didn’t boot up and just turned off but came back on after I pressed the power button on again :) any1 have any idea what the problem could be

Maybe you turned off your tv while it was booting up? It goes into rest mode automatically when the TV is turned off. You sure it wasn't updating?

It only does that if hdmi cec is turned on...I don't like devices turning on and off seemingly at random sometimes, so I disable that feature on every device and have everything controlled through a universal remotes macros. Much less confusion/rage inducing, lol.

Just boot it up in safe mode and rebuild database. You should be good to go.

Hopefully this resolves the BS with COD:MW no matter how you installed it using the disc it always stopped working after closing the game. It would say another version is installed and you had to delete it to play. I must have downloaded that games updates 7 times before giving up. I could play warzone but not normal MP.

It’s a welcomed feature should it been enabled at launch yes was it the end of the world NO this journalist are quick to forget that ALL NEW SYSTEMS AT LAUNCH ARE MISSING SOME FEATURES unless it’s a copy paste operating system where nothing change.
Just be patient it wasn’t till Xbox 360/ PS3 when systems could be fully patched and updated it’s like they’re all 10 years old that never played anything bellow xb1/ps4 gen 🤷🏿🤦

Yes I had to just unplug mine a few weeks back because the system would just power off on me. Ever since I unplugged the HDD it works fine. Going off of your comment my guess is they haven't patched this yet.

Haven't had it plugged in for a few weeks. It was working just fine up until then when it shut down on me in the middle of playing Sackboy. It did it one more time when I attempted a database rebuild - it shut down as soon as it got to the UI.

Change your faulty drive, I tried 2 different HDD's and an SSD and there is no problem.

I haven't got a PS5 and have been wondering for a while now:

Is a PS5-enhanced version of a PS4 game exactly the same as playing the PS5 version?

For e.g. Spider-Man was released on PS4 and has an "enhanced" update when you play it on PS5. But Sony also released "Spider-Man: Remastered," Are these two effectively the same thing?

No they aren't. PS5 enhanced is done by the hardware which is usually better framerates and load times, whereas the remaster has the developers going back to the game and tweaking things like resolution and graphics.

Cyberpunk can be played on the PS5 running better than the PS4 version, however they will be releasing a superior patch for the PS5 next year some time that will probably have ray tracing @ 60fps.

Forgive my ignorance, but in what case would you want to play the PS4 version of a PS5 game if you own the PS5 version? I'm just wondering why they didn't just make it so that the PS5 automatically loads the PS5 version by default.

The only reason that would make sense is if you were strapped for hard drive space and decided the PS4 might need the extra space is the only plausible reason I could think of.

Maybe they wanted to use the DualShock 4 on the PS5 for multiplayer games like Sackboy. It’s niche but it’s possible.
