Is anyone else dubious on whether they can patch their way out of this busted mess?

ClayRules20121650d ago

They can try. That’s basically all they can do.

Did you read their apology?

Ron_Danger1650d ago

Their apology reminded me of the BP apology on South Park:

https://m.youtube.com/watch...

They act all apologetic about how the console version came out but at the same time knowingly refused to send out console review copies and didn’t allow anyone to show any console footage ahead of release.

neutralgamer19921650d ago

Ron

Cyberpunk 2077 was finished and ready to ship game if we don't take into account that it need play testing for about 6-9 months and at the same time needed more polish and better optimization. This is basically early access game and all those who bought day one are non paid play testers. Anyone who plays this game in 9 months will have a much better playing experience. I am waiting till I can get ps5(till summer 2021) than once the game has been optimized and patched for next generation I will play it.

I do wonder how this will now affect their free and paid dlc content plans moving forward because they have to focus on fixing the game so it means additional content has to wait

Dee_911650d ago

I don't think its completely hardware limitations. The AI is just sad..
even if they fix all the graphical issues, the AI will still kill a lot of the immersion for me. I am hopeful it can be tweaked with updates, but im kinda skeptical..

MrBelasco1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

Yes, I did. I don’t see how that fixes the game. I bought this thing despite some of the woke noise coming from them the last few years.

porkChop1650d ago

They can on Pro, One X, PS5, and Series X. But OG PS4 and One? Not much they can really do there. This should have just been a next gen game because it's way too ambitious for 2013 hardware.

neutralgamer19921650d ago

Yeah but ps4/xbox one combined is well north of 150+ million install base so it's hard for them to pass up on the biggest price of their pie. How this game can't run on ps4/xbox one is beyond me when other open world games atleast try to hit that 1080P/30FPS. cyberpunk is just a very badly optimized game and overtime it will get better. In my opinion in about 9+ months it will run/play better on all platforms including the OG ps4/xbox one. It just needs polishing and better optimization

anast1650d ago

It was advertised and developed as a current gen. It should have been a current gen game, in fact it is a current gen game with the next gen console upgrade still to come. They should have optimized this game for base machines not only high end PCs.

OB1Biker1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

'it's way too ambitious for 2013 hardware."
It IS a 2013 game developed for PS4 XB1 from the beginning.
Enough excuses of 'old' hardware.

RgR1649d ago (Edited 1649d ago )

@OB1Biker

It is not a 2013 game. That is not how development works. Does this make starfield a 2018 game simply because that's when they announced it?

It's not an excuse. Game development takes advantage of current graphical fidelity improvements.it doesnt stay in the past. They realized a year or 2 ago that they wiuld be likely releasing at the end of the generation so they switched focus when optimizing and creating all the visual fidelity features.

The base consoles are largely ignored by most reviewers. Many games dont perform very well on the base consoles. Perhaps not to this degree but they've still been largely ignored.

Besides. They are primarily a pc developer so they don't stick to generations. Many other games that were announced a while ago are now releasing on either next gen hardware only or on both but with a clear emphasis on next gen consoles.

@Ron_Danger

Yes! Basically this is how it reads! And we might sound like broken records to some or many, but it’s the truth that they knowingly refused to send out console review copies, that’s strike 1, and than not allowing anyone to show any footage other than B role footage from the studio themselves, for reviewers in their reviews, for the entirety of their reviewers, is just more strikes added.

They knew what they were doing. I don’t have hard towards the company, but their actions are disgusting, I hate that, their lack of respect for millions who’ve supported and loved them for so long and this is how they repay them? “We’ll pay you back with patches to make the game you’ve been excited to play for years, hopefully playable, and stable”

I don’t think I’ll ever stop shaking my head in disbelief at the foolishness of it all.

Rocketisleague1650d ago

If no man's sky could these certainly can. Nms didn't offer refunds on pc at least

Ron_Danger1650d ago

No mans sky at least ran though. I’ve had NMS since day 1 and it’s never crashed or had a single bug for me on PS4.

CorndogBurglar1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

No Man's Sky just added content. It wasn't a buggy, nearly unplayable mess at launch.

Rocketisleague1649d ago

Lol it ran like crap on pc. Crashes and all. Also it was missing basically the entire game

ProjectVulcan1650d ago

The Witcher 3 improved greatly if you compare release to the game a dozen patches and a year later.

This will also improve a great deal, but the fact is the game was not ready to ship really. It needed at least another 6 months to bake. Who is to blame? Well it's about financials, it's about crunching, it's about the crybabies and howls of derision when the game was delayed.

Very toxic atmosphere now worse than ever because of the poor state the game shipped in. They will fix it but for me I won't play this properly for at least 6 months and with a nice RTX machine built for it.

Orbilator1650d ago

They did it with the Witcher so no reason they can't with this. All glitches and frame rates aside I'm enjoying it on my ps5.

dumahim1650d ago

They can make it better, but it probably won't ever be a stable 30 fps on last-gen consoles.

1650d ago
ClayRules20121650d ago

Yeah, it was a joke of an apology in my opinion.

Neonridr1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

look at No Man's Sky.. granted that wasn't a buggy mess.. but they definitely fixed it up right over time.

CorndogBurglar1650d ago

There's a big difference between adding content and fixing a ton of bugs, visuals, and framerate drops. No Man's Sky didn't really have any of those issues. People were just mad because tons of content was missing.

frostypants1649d ago (Edited 1649d ago )

I'm not dubious. Witcher 3 was also a dumpster fire upon release...something many people forget or simply didn't realize...and it turned out well. Granted, it wasn't THIS bad, but they also weren't under the same pressure as they were this time (higher profile now, more pressure to hit calendar fiscal numbers). I think they'll fix it just fine. I also think they'll need to throw a TON of free content at the community to rebuild their reputation though.

gamer78041649d ago

of course, thats what development is, a series of patches called dev builds.

Stanjara1650d ago

It will take a year till this game is playable. Don't ruin your hardware and get a refund.

JEECE1650d ago

Lol it will take until the true next gen versions come out. PS4 and Xbox One still won't be able to run this game well in a year.

RebDomine21650d ago

It runs fine on my xbox one.

Master-Tonberry1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

I has more than it's fair share of issues but It's more than playable now on PS5, XBSX/S and PC. Stop exaggerating, and it's certainly not going to ruin anyone's hardware.
Forget about PS4/Pro and Xbox One though, that's a lost cause.

CorndogBurglar1650d ago

How would playing this game "ruin your hardware"?

Stanjara1649d ago

Hard reseting your console isn't good, especially for your hard drive...it can also lock...and brick.
It isn't serious but there is a reason why you don't hard plug out your electronics after using.
Also..
If you look at ps5 problems or xbox most of them are due too early firmware.

BLow1650d ago

What happened to scalability that fanboys were screaming not that long ago? What happened that quick? Y'all can't have it both ways. We cannot sit here and except things like this I don't care who the developer is. GTA is open world and doesn't have nearly this many bugs.

There have been games that came out, that have had bugs and people have gone off on them but somehow this game is different. Funny how that works.

Knightofelemia1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

I can understand pushing the game out for the Xmas holiday if it wasn't so buggy. But since the game is so buggy I would have waited the Xmas holiday pushed the game back later and sorted out the bugs. As a customer I would have waited longer to have a playable game then a game that is buggy. I just wonder how many patches this game will get before it's classified as playable. I sold No Man's Sky pretty fast still debating on whether to wait on this game until i get a Series X and all the patches are there or I might just turn around and sell this game.

MrBelasco1650d ago

It's not only that it's buggy, but the AI sucks, NPC'S literally repeat the same 3 sentences, and no matter which path you take they all have the same ending. You can't fix that.

Cyberpunk 2077's 2.3 Update Opens a Pandora's Box the Game Can't Close

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a new update after developers previously stated it no longer would, bringing the possibility of more still to come.

hollabox6d ago

I'm hoping the update fixes their poor FSR 3 implementation, and add FSR 4. FSR 2 looks better than FSR 3 in CP2077 by a wide margin. On my 7900XT I just use XESS if I want to add RT at custom 3K resolutions. Already beat the main game, but half way through Phantom Liberty expansion. I would like to get back to it later on this month.

anast6d ago

I have more hours in this game than any other. I would happily put more into it.

MastaMold5d ago

I second this and a PS5 PRO patch too please.

RhinoGamer885d ago

I finished it and had a blast, wish there was a new game + option.

Demon-kun1d 16h ago

I wanna be able to dual wield it would add a decent bit I feel hell if they wanted they could even let us dual wield like knives and swords as well or something just sounds like fun to me

Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2: a cutting-edge game translates well to Nintendo's console hybrid

Few games among the Nintendo Switch 2 launch line-up can match Cyberpunk 2077 in putting the system through its paces. It's a staple of our PC benchmarking suite for good reason: the open world design is a solid stressor for any CPU, while its effects-heavy battles challenge GPU resources as well. This Switch 2 release has clearly been a big undertaking for developer CD Projekt Red too, who produced the port in-house with unique optimisations for Switch 2's ARM-based architecture. It's also remarkably the Ultimate Edition of the game, with both the core adventure and the more taxing Phantom Liberty expansion bundled in - an extra portion that proved too demanding to justify a last-gen console release, and was instead restricted to PS5 and Series X/S, and yet here it is running on Switch 2.

To cut to the chase, Switch 2 offers a truly viable way to enjoy Cyberpunk, either in a portable format or docked under a TV. However, CDPR has shot for the stars in its ambition to include Phantom Liberty as well, and it's here that Switch 2 hits some technical limits - with frame-rates struggling as we explore its newer Dog Town region. Still, that aside, there's a lot to admire in the game's engineering for Nintendo's new console overall, and how competitive it is in comparison with other consoles.

I am happy for CDPR. Their hard work paid off because the Switch 2 version are always in the top 5 Switch 2 launch game sales.

jznrpg7d ago

Not much launched with it besides ports so it should be expected I guess.

OMNlPOTENT6d ago

I mean.. what did the PS5 launch with? One exclusive in Demon's Souls?

repsahj6d ago

@Omnipotent
Not just PS5, Series X has zero launch games. XD

DivineHand1257d ago (Edited 7d ago )

This may be one of the weakest launch lineups Nintendo has ever had, with Mario Kart being the only first party game, but Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely give you tremendous value for your money.

One tip I can give people who have never played the game is to first read books from the cyberpunk subgenre. This will allow you to appreciate the story much better. If you find yourself asking which life path is the best to take at the start of the game, in this case it is Corpo, Streetkid, and Nomad. You likely don't know enough about the genre, and certain things will fly right over your head. While it is not mandatory, the game will be 10 times better if you read or listen to some books first.

Some books I have enjoyed in that genre are:
Cyber Dreams by Plum Parrot,
Stray Cat Strut by RavensDagger
Tower of Somnus by Cale Plamann
Mist Runner by Nicholas Searcy

If you can only read or listen to 1 book, then I recommend Cyber Dreams by Plum Parrot. It is the closest thing to Cyberpunk 2077.

anast7d ago

Or play the TTRPG which is was based on.

Profchaos6d ago

I'd say its stronger than the switch as Mario kart has a broader appeal than zelda.

It was also a better launch line-up than the gamecube and possibly wii u

DivineHand1256d ago

@Profchaos the WiiU likely had the worst of the bunch which is partly why the system failed.

The gamecube had smash bros melee that launched 2 months after the initial release and that is one of the best games to release on that console. I assume every gamecube owner would be happy with that game.

The switch had Breath of the Wild which is still considered one of the best games of all time. I remember playing through that game and unlocked every equipment, upgraded every equipment to the max, found all the dragons, defeated all the Lynels and completed all the shrines in that game before defeating Ganon at the end. It was a good time from start to finish and made up for the lack of other launch games.

I just think that if they had us waiting that long for the switch 2, they should have more than just 1 or 2 first party games ready within the launch window. If we had at least gotten a trailer for a new 3D mario I would be extremely happy. With the current switch 2 lineup, there is no draw to go out and get it immediately like a new console launch should make you feel. Right now the main appeal is to provide a quality of life update to play switch 1 games.

OMNlPOTENT6d ago

There is also a book directly related to the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, it's called "No Coincidence". I thought it was a pretty good read.

Kornholic6d ago

"One tip I can give people who have never played the game is to first read books from the cyberpunk subgenre."

If somebody gave me this advice before I started my first Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough, I wouldn't have even bought the game in the first place.

DivineHand1255d ago

True because I wouldn't have played it either. It's just that I read those books after playing the game and thinking back, a lot of the motivations of each character started making more sense.

I just wanted to through that tip out there to recommend someone try to understand the cyberpunk genre more before playing. They will get more out of the game.

40 vs 60 fps is not something that I would even consider calling "competitive"

1nsomniac7d ago

Then you don’t know enough about the subject you’re trying to talk about..

badz1497d ago

hahaha...what? are you serious right now? the Switch 2 is not a PC where you can just change the graphical settings to get to 60fps...Unless CDPR released a patch to make it run at 60fps, that is.

As of right now, it's stuck at 40fps at best and that too with DLSS from quite a low base res already. so yeah...it's not competitive.

Profchaos6d ago

100% 40 isn't a arbitrary choice its a strategic choice because it opens up access to supporting technology on the console

Good-Smurf7d ago

DF are Nintendo's occasional bootlickers after that blatant Zelda games ad scandal.
Games like CP2077 are meant to be played on big console or powerful PC on a big screen.
Got to love how they're simp for full price purchase of 5-year-old game and still getting the worst version to play on.

1nsomniac7d ago

Wow you guys don’t let up for a second trying to blame DF for anything you can pick out the sky at any given moment. It’s embarrassing dude.

It’s always DF are bootlickers for Nintendo today, Microsoft yesterday, Sony last week. Make your mind up people… pick a side and stick to it. Sounds so stupid when you’re trying to make a point that some company is biased but that no one can make their mind up who the company is biased towards any given day of the week.

stoney1017d ago

Yep, the amount of hate they get is ridiculous. The funny thing is if you actually look at the comments on their early switch 2 videos people are slating them for not giving it enough praise and constantly comparing it to ps4.

ZycoFox6d ago

They had a "Sponsored by Nintendo" video not long ago, it literally says so at the start.

I trust them for showing frame rate analysis and they're decent for that, but their overall review for Nintendo is overrated, Mario Kart is the same game it has always been.

Really the only one that got close to topping DKR was MKDS.. So it's no wonder it's often ranked as the highest rated Mario Kart.

repsahj6d ago

It's obvious that you're not following DF. In the weeks leading up to the Switch 2's release, didn't you know that DF had so many articles downplaying the Switch 2 because they believed it was far from being more powerful than the PS4?
