Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 / Xbox One Review | Jeux Video

If the game remains relatively playable in its scripted sequences, with a few hiccups here and there, the exploration in the open world is often laborious, even sometimes unplayable. Textures that don't display or are runny, pronounced aliasing, low definition, overdue framerate, freezes, lagging interface, crash ... these Fat versions are a striking proof that Cyberpunk 2077 should have never been anything but a next-gen game.

I agree. It should’ve been a next gen only game. It’s clearly too ambitious for old consoles.

Levii_921598d ago

With all those delays you think they were preparing for that and ditching the old gen but i’m baffeld that we have to wait for sometime next year for next gen versions.

Makes me think in what kind of state was the game earlier this year when it was supposed to launch originally.. 😬

LordoftheCritics1598d ago (Edited 1598d ago )

This seems like a pc beta release.

Doesn't play on old gen consoles.
Doesn't fully utilize next gen consoles.

RacerX1598d ago

I'm playing it on PC, the game is frustrating glitchy. Lots of latency, pop ins, sometimes the graphics look like card board.

So it's not just the consoles that are suffering. I'm gonna put this game down until another patch is released. It's really ruining the experience.

SullysCigar1598d ago

Back when TVRs were a thing, there was a running joke that they left the factory in Blackpool half made, sold them and then finished them off over the next year. To me, CDPR are the TVR of the gaming industry. But once it's finished, boy are we in for a great ride!

Still, no excuse though. Especially given the delays.

Dee_911598d ago

@RacerX
I couldn't make it pass the tutorials 😂😅 here's to a patch soon

Knushwood Butt1598d ago

TVRs always did have a reputation of being very unreliable.

A shame, but the entire British car industry pretty much had the world in its hand but bad decisions flushed the entire lot down the toilet.

According to a James May documentary, the British turned down the Volkswagen factory, for FREE, after the war. Smart move!!!

CrimsonWing691598d ago

It really should’ve. Cross-gen does hold next-gen back. I feel this would’ve been the game I wanted had they have been free to push the game to its limits on next-gen. Now, the next-gen version will just be a smoother experience and sharper looking version of a last-gen game. I think when people say cross-gen holds next-gen back they can use this as an example.

Killa781598d ago

That's no excuse.

This game is 8 years in the making, it is a last gen game. They should not have released the game of they knew it wouldn't work.

Nekroo911598d ago (Edited 1598d ago )

Not according to Aaron Greenberg, "it's just a slider". We always knew that this would happen but fanboys...

nickanasty2061598d ago (Edited 1598d ago )

This game was in development for 8 years though with the mindset of it being finished much sooner. Unfortunately the game is too ambitious for its target console after all of the delays and next-gen has now arrived. They had too many adjustments that needed to be made during developement, and next gen dev kits have only been around for about a year at most. Next-gen wasn't really being held back here considering those consequences, CDPR's developement timeline and delays is what made all of this happen. Remember as well, any AMD Ryzen technology was not available for them in 2012 when they started their work on this game. I think it being undercooked for all devices with the exception of PC makes complete sense, with PC being targeted first because that is CDPR's MO. Not to mention the fact that AMD's software implementation of Ray-Tracing doesn't even work on PC at the moment, so next gen consoles were never going to get the royal treatment. Technology changes drastically in 8 years, and they had to keep up with the times on the PC front so the game turned out to be too ambitious only due to technology changing and them having to adjust for that. If they truly wanted it to work out for every platform, they would have to delay the game again, and since they do eventually have to answer to their shareholders, they had to just put the game out so they could start making some money on their investment into the game. Money talks in this world unfortunately, so to sum it up you can blame money for making this happen, because in the end they are a business, and like any business they are in it for money.

JeffGUNZ1598d ago (Edited 1598d ago )

Honestly, the game is a poorly optimized mess on PC. Head over to reddit, people with 3080 and 3090's not getting 4K 60 FPS, dropping to 30's. I have a RTX 2080, i7-8700K, 16 GB RAM, 1440P 144hz monitor and took me HOURS to get a 50-60 FPS range. Game just was not ready at all the be released. Now that I have it on high-ultra settings, the game is just filled with bugs and probably the worst police system in an open world game. Look at this clip of someone killing someone on the ledge of a building and the police appear out of thin air.

mafiahajeri1598d ago

This game was hyped up really well by CDPR. Its all you read when you see people talking about the game, hype. Looks like an average game thats getting so much praise because of how luckluster game releases have been lately on multiplatform, Sony is the only one doing it right. I wonder how lenient people would be if this was a first a game published by Sony.

RememberThe3571598d ago

The game looks fkn great. It just isn't finished. Again we get a game that isn't ready and again millions of people pre order it anyway. Never preoder games, there's literally zero benefit. Wait six months, the game will be mostly fixed and half price.

wwinterj1598d ago (Edited 1598d ago )

The thing is most folk still own last gen consoles and can't even get a current gen console. Making is "next gen" only would cut off a lot of sales. The game upgrades for free to "next gen" too when that patch is available so it's fine.

1598d ago
RCslayer1598d ago (Edited 1598d ago )

Right and lose over 150 million consoles. Yeah, that would be a great move. It should have been done right. This game came was talked about when the Ps4 and X1 weren't even on the market. So no it shouldn't have been next gen only. If that was the case do you think you would be playing it on anything right now? Since the game was 8 years in the making. The new gen would be 4 years in or more into its life before this hit the streets.

How did CDPR put their name on this? What a cluster

Teflon021598d ago

CDPR maybe great at making great games, but let's not forget Witcher 3 was a mess too at launch. Not as bad but a mess. They maybe even able to make this one run better with updates. But this is why I said I'm waiting till the official ps5 and series X version drops to grab on console.

yeahokwhatever1598d ago

The witcher 3 was much worse at launch, IMO. There were entire missions that would just crash the game every time. other missions would just get stuck. it was LITERALLY unplayable. there were fewer bugs probably, because there were fewer things happening. less npcs to notice how bad they were. etc. this game seems to be too ambitious for their studio, but im still glad they made it. NMS was too ambitious as well, but we eventually got more than we were ever promised, which is where i think CP2077 is headed when you look at their history with the witcher.

Sirk7x1598d ago

Yeah, Witcher 3 was really bad at launch. Framerate problems, quests breaking, etc. People forgot about all the drama with the graphical downgrades of the game too. If I remember correctly, there was also a really bad save bug with the game, where you couldn't save, and saves would get corrupted. They stuck by it though, patched the hell out of it and gave alot of DLC for free, which was fantastic. CDPR is also really, really good at storytelling.

"...a striking proof that Cyberpunk 2077 should have never been anything but a next-gen game."

That is what I said before Cypberpunk came out. Incredible that they thought something like this can run on a PS4 or Xbox One.

Rebel_Scum1598d ago

Whats the key diff between Cyberpunk 2077 and GTAV? Because that runs smooth on a base PS4.

yeahokwhatever1598d ago (Edited 1598d ago )

lens flare. the more i play cyberpunk on my ps5, the more i realize this game is basically GTA lite in robocops world.

Minute Man 7211598d ago (Edited 1598d ago )

The Redengine sux my guess but they'll fix it

TheExecutioner1598d ago

After many many delays
I knew it
This game disappoint and will likely play it when its discounted

alb18991598d ago

You don't even know what you are talking about. It is not a disappoinment, it just should have been released only for next gen consoles.

TheExecutioner1598d ago

And who are r u to tell it should be released for next or not
This title has been announced mid of last generation and now u r telling it should have been for next generation
Rather they focused on making burger, nail and male penis
They must have made it perfect for current gen

IamFrasierCrane1598d ago

But it wasn’t. They knowingly sold people a broken game. Not to mention the majority of console sales are going to be on last gen hardware. That explains the free upgrade now, no way could they get away with charging people for that.

Quit defending them.

Lol I've been disappointed ever since the "closed door demo leak" the demo was running on a gtx 1080 ti 1080p @60fps . I was like how the hell with that run on ps4 and xbox.

By the way that demo was like years ago, I was able to save up and now I play it on my pc with rtx 3080

I'm more disappointed by those people who thinks that the devs can magically optimize the game to run great on ps4 and xbox one.

yeahokwhatever1598d ago

"I'm more disappointed by those people who thinks that the devs can magically optimize the game to run great on ps4 and xbox one." <-- the devs thought this. otherwise they wouldn't have made a game for PS4/XB1.

Happy to see crunch was worth it.

frostypants1598d ago (Edited 1598d ago )

Crunch happens on all major for-profit software projects. No exceptions. Anyone who says otherwise has never worked on one.

DLSS should help the Nintendo Switch 2 with longevity

Profchaos6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Based on so e of the impossible ports we saw on switch 1 I'm not worried about the hardwares longevity.

Next gen systems ps6 and next box might slow down switch 2 development but given leaks showing PlayStation releasing a new portable system around the same time as ps6 that can play ps5 games says that next gen cross gen seems to be poised to last the entire generation

And right now I'd say there isn't much that couldn't be scaled down to run on switch 2

Goodguy016d ago

Nvidia or Nintendo need to come out and detail how dlss will work on switch 2. Like is it dlss4? Or just completely customized for the switch.

Tacoboto6d ago

I'm sure they've detailed exactly that in documentation provided to developers.

b00mFargl36d ago

It will probably be behind a $20 demo that we have to download. 😂

PRIMORDUS6d ago

I like to know as well, which version of DLSS? 2, 3, 3.5 or 4? I mean it's not that hard for Nintendo to say which version games will use.

Profchaos6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Given the specs of the system and the time the hardware was produced if I had a stab in the dark I'd say a heavily customised dlss3

Neonridr6d ago

it's GPU is based around ampere technology, which is 3 series cards tech. So some features from DLSS4 can be ported down to older cards, just not some 5 series exclusive features like multi-frame gen.

40fps docked is a interesting choice as it's in the vrr range but we don't have confirmation of vrr docked

Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch 2 Targeting 1080p Docked, 720p Handheld, at 30-40 FPS

The Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, but what kind of performance can you expect?

VenomUK24d ago

Targeting 1080p means a modest resolution compared to PS5 & Series X - but at least it’s a step up from the disappointing performance on Xbox Series S.

DivineHand12524d ago

I don't understand your comment. Cyberpunk 2077 runs at 1080p 60 FPS on the series S in performance mode and 1440p 30 fps in quality mode.

The series S is more powerful than the majority of the handhelds on the market because it has access to more power while the handhelds have to be constrained to preserve battery life.

gold_drake24d ago

are we really at this point, where we defend older tech?

but i get it, its nintendo, they always get away with that shit.

OpenGL24d ago

The Series S also launched at $299 almost 5 years ago.

RaidenBlack23d ago

We got CP2077 running native on a Nintendo but still no GTA V, which could've easily run on Switch 1.

Rainbowcookie24d ago

On youtube GvG they are playing the demo on switch 2 and it looks good.

Christopher24d ago

Looks like PS4 base model to me. Not sure why 12 year-old hardware quality is a selling point, especially without Ray Tracing.

Rainbowcookie24d ago

Should say good , for what it is and them working a few weeks on it.

Profchaos24d ago

@christopher it's now been confirmed the switch 2 does feature ray tracing and dlss

https://www.theverge.com/ne...

Christopher24d ago

@Profchaos none of it is in the gameplay shown for CP2077 and highly likely extremely limited for games that do utilize it. Much like the PS4/XBO. Again, 12 year old tech.

VariantAEC22d ago

@Profchaos
My phone also has hardware accelerated raytracing. What games use it? World of Tanks and what else? Basically nothing. What Switch 2 games feature any kind of RT?

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 22d ago
Cacabunga24d ago

Smh at the level of ignorance..

Switch 2 is just a base PS4.

RaidenBlack23d ago

@christopher
Nintendo has been targeting a generation older perf since Wii.
Wii stayed at Gamecube perf level, WiiU reached slightly over X360/PS3, but commercially failed.
So, Nintendo Switched to handheld. That's a different architecture space but its a more modern architecture which let it perform much better than the X360/WiiU space and hence was able to stay relevant this long.
Hence Switch 2 continuing the handheld trend and will also be able to continue the perf trend of being able to perform slightly better than the base PS4 level space.
Yes, it should've arrived at least 2 years prior but that's Wii U gen ending early, Switch taking over early and staying relevant for much longer that caused its launch delay.

Jin_Sakai24d ago

It’s a handheld what do you expect. It’s good enough for what it is.

Profchaos24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

The echo chamber hates anything the switch 2 does apparently. Because they hate the price of some games.

Guys wouldn't have coped with the Neo Geo

ZycoFox24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

It's a portable, and it's Nintendo, not unexpected..

If you want frame rate and higher res/textures then just get a PS5 or better yet a good PC.

I wouldn't buy a Switch 2 for third party games unless they were light on the hardware.

VariantAEC22d ago

For the price Nintendo is making Switch 2 an easy skip. That isn't good.

RaidenBlack23d ago

A tiny comment without much context or reasoning, but the upvotes echo the community here.

Kornholic23d ago

The context and reasoning is very much baked into the comment.

Vits24d ago

To put things into perspective, the Steam Deck’s preset for Cyberpunk 2077 runs at a mix of medium and low settings, targets 40 FPS, and renders at 650p before upscaling. That means the Switch 2 version will likely be very close to what you get on the Deck in handheld mode, possibly a bit sharper.

When it comes to efficiency, the Steam Deck lasts between 1 hour 40 minutes and 2 hours 15 minutes while running Cyberpunk. Based on Nintendo’s own worst-case scenario, the Switch 2 should be in the same range at around 2 hours, but if it's more efficient, it could do better.

Docked mode is where things get more interesting. The Steam Deck doesn’t have an official docked mode, but with Power Tools, you can overclock it while plugged in, pushing the resolution to 900p native, bumping most settings to medium, and still holding 40 FPS. If the Switch 2 is aiming for 1080p in docked mode and achieving it natively, then it could have a slight edge in performance.

Honestly, that’s solid performance, and if the efficiency is there, it might surpass the Steam Deck when it comes to AAA games. However, it’s not going to be a game-changer. More powerful current Windows handhelds will likely surpass it in many scenarios, but they are also more expensive and less efficient.

Profchaos24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Really well said to bad everyone even slightly positive about switch is getting hate similar to the pro did.

People just don't like that people enjoy things and probably want Nintendo to fold so we only have one console maker

Vits24d ago

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I still think it can be a pretty bad value. But unlike the Pro, the lack of value isn’t going to come from the hardware or a lack thereof. It’s the game prices that could end up being way too high, with Nintendo opening the floodgates.

But that’s something we will have to wait and see.

Profchaos24d ago

@vits I agree game prices are a real problem thankfully third parties appear to have stuck to a traditional price point games like street fighter 6 appear to be available for a far cheaper price than mk world.

I'll be getting the mk world bundle personally. I would prefer the physical cart but when it's half the cost in the bundle it's a no brainer.

I still stand by the fact the hardware needs a chance to prove itself and from what I saw in yesterday's presentation it looks like strong capable hardware NVIDIA have also validated overnight that dlss and ray tracing features are supported on the switch 2 with the df team not seeing many signs of games running dlss in the presentation it seems there might be more to the hardware than we have seen right now.

I don't think downplaying the whole system is fair because of the game prices realistically this will be reflected in retail sales and the market will speak for itself right now Nintendo shares have gone up since the reveal.

Michiel198923d ago

its more the mindset of: if a gaming machine isn't EXACTLY how i want my gaming machines, it's bad.For the audience that they're targeting, it's great except the game prices...thats just stupid, but I suspect they'll get away with it and others will follow suit with their game prices.

Profchaos24d ago

40 on a vrr display can result in gameplay that feels akin to 60.

Vrr is an amazing tech we still need to learn if Nintendo vrr bottoms out like PS5 does (xsx doesn't) but I would be expecting 40 with vrr to become a standard on switch 2

Profchaos24d ago

For clarity I'm playing god of war Ragnarok using the 40 fps mode with vrr on ps5 and it's fantastic it should be a standard
